Trump and Fox News and Rush Limbaugh and all of Trump’s other acolytes are probably getting people killed—and it’s concentrated among the people who voted for Trump in the first place. That’s an irony, I suppose, but not one I can take much pleasure in.

What about the formation and continuation of megachurches in the first place? Despite the fact that public prayer was enjoined against by Jesus himself (if you believe the NT).

I'm not a good christian, but yanno, even I can recognize hypocrisy in the service of ego when I see it. And it's not limited to republican christians.

It IS funny on so MANY levels! And clever in its use of a common phrase ... that... coming from a Church, could be taken literally.

The sign actually says, "For the love of God do what Dr. Bonnie says." My typeo, my bad.

But it is a very clever sign and maybe more churches will pick it up and use it.

Yeah. What Kiki said.

Democrats are more likely to be Godless heathens than Republicans, but there are plenty of Democrat Christians out there too.

Some of them that are old and already sick might argue that going to church is more important than social distancing.

Then you've got Muslims. Nobody is going to claim that there are a lot of Republican Muslims running around out there. Some of them are even willing to strap on a vest made of bombs just for shits and giggles when we're not all on lockdown either.

Oh... and BTW... You better give Wishy the memo here. She's under the impression that entire black communities were targeted by the virus via the racist Trump administration.

And the last time I checked, black Americans overwhelmingly voted against Trump in 2016.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

Texas Blames Abortion for Spreading the Virus, but It’s the State That Has Put Millions at Risk

https://theintercept.com/2020/04/08/texas-abortion-coronavirus/

Elected officials in Texas have so far been the most enthusiastic about exploiting the viral outbreak to strip residents of reproductive autonomy in favor of scoring political points with anti-abortion supporters. It’s unsurprising that the state has charged headlong into defending its across-the-board abortion ban despite its obvious constitutional defect.

But it’s important to note that many Texas officials — including Gov. Abbott and Atty General Paxton — loathe health care access in general. They have refused to expand Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act, saying that it’s just “wrong” for Texas, despite the fact that a majority of Texans favor expansion. Texas has among the most stringent rules for Medicaid eligibility in the U.S., a problem that has left more than 750,000 residents in the so-called coverage gap, earning too much to qualify for Medicaid but too little to qualify for offsets under the ACA.

Texas has the highest rate of uninsured people in the country, with a whopping 18 percent of residents without health insurance; 26 percent of women of reproductive age lack insurance, more than double the national average. And the state has done a pretty miserable job of taking care of the kids who are already here. More than 1.5 million Texas children live in poverty, 9 percent have no health insurance, and 23 percent live with food insecurity. One would think that amid a public health crisis, these would be the sorts of facts that would keep Texas officials up at night, worrying about how the spread of the disease might cripple the state and kill its residents.

You never got to this paragraph, where the Texas Attorney General gives his "justification" for banning abortion:
Quote:

In a brief filed with the federal district court on March 30, Paxton made this argument: If clinics continue to provide abortion care, they’re bound to come into contact with individuals who have Covid-19 and will therefore spread the virus by treating them. After all, he wrote, “women travel from other locations to receive abortions at their clinics, and traveling to other parts of the state is exactly what is causing the spread of the virus.”
There is more at https://theintercept.com/2020/04/08/texas-abortion-coronavirus/ but the Texas Attorney General has, ever since being elected, been maneuvering to prove "Abortion = Murder" and arrest women and keep them in jail. Since that has been shot down in Federal court, he is now using "Abortion = Murder by Covid-19". That has not yet been shot down by courts.

As for Republican Muslims, 13% of Muslims are Republican or lean in that direction.

What he's saying is that now is not a good time for girls getting fucked while not taking proper precautions.

I can't have adjustments done to my dentures right now unless it constitutes an emergency or get a haircut either.

They make pills, and they're cheap and easy to obtain even without parental consent, and pharmacies are considered essential business. I suggest that women use them. Murdering babies is probably on the list of non-essential activities for the foreseeable future.

I bet a Republican Muslim never wore a boom boom vest.

I'm also willing to bet that a far greater number of Christians are Democrats than 13% as well.

The very first paragraph of the story said that the Texas Attorney General, using Covid-19 as the "justification" or his excuse, had declared it a crime to possess that drug you are talking about.
https://theintercept.com/2020/04/08/texas-abortion-coronavirus/

On March 23, Jane Doe’s life turned upside down. That night, she got a phone call from the Fort Worth, Texas, abortion clinic where she had an appointment scheduled for the next day to receive the drugs that would complete her medication abortion. The appointment, the clinic worker told her, was canceled. “I started to cry, and she cried too,” Doe recalled in a sworn statement filed March 30 in a lawsuit against the state. Just hours before the 24-year-old student and recently unemployed restaurant server got the news, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton had declared that amid the Covid-19 outbreak, all abortion would be banned in the state. Providers that defied the order would be punished, he warned, potentially by criminal prosecution and incarceration.

The Premier of British Columbia John Horgan made a special amendment to his list of essential services. It is only for this weekend but Premier Horgan has declared that the Easter Bunny is an essential service. Of course the Premier has stated that the Easter Bunny follow Dr. Bonnie Henry's orders which include social distancing when delivering his eggs and washing his paws at each stop.

I have no doubt that other Premiers will be following suit along with the Prime Minister.

This is done to make the littlest citizens feel better.

6ix and the Texas Attorney General agree that Abortion = Murder. 6ix, you are just as Republican as he is. He is using Covid-19 as his cover story to justify arresting women for murder. He and 6ix also agree about Obamacare.
Quote:

But in fact, Texas politicians’ disdain for health care access extends beyond its borders. The state, with Paxton at the legal helm, is leading the charge to completely dismantle the ACA, which would leave more than 20 million Americans without insurance. “Finally being rid of this law,” Paxton has crowed, “will be a victory for all Americans.”

Airlines Suspended China Flights Before Trump Did

Trump is once again boasting about his semi-ban on travel from China, but Trump didn’t act until after the three biggest American airlines, along with nearly every other international airline, had already suspended flights to China. In other words, when it didn’t really matter anymore. He didn’t have the guts to do it before then.

Here is the New York Times on January 31:

Moving to counter the spreading coronavirus outbreak, the Trump administration said Friday that it would bar entry by most foreign nationals who had recently visited China and put some American travelers under a quarantine as it declared a rare public health emergency. The temporary restrictions followed announcements by American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines that they would suspend air service between the United States and China for several months.

Your point here is either to say that Trump didn't act fast enough, or to pretend that your Democrat Infested Legacy Media wasn't screaming RACISM when the ban went into effect now that they realize they were wrong and it should have happened sooner.

Yeah Kiki. I had to do a little looking on when first cases or presumptive cases were seen in each province.

Ontario saw its first case on Jan 23, traveller returning from Wuhan China

BC was next on Jan 28 again another traveller

Same thing in Quebec Feb 28 but this time the traveller was returning home from Iran.

The differences also seem to be when social distancing measures were put in place. BC seemed to do it first then Ontario followed by Quebec.

Same goes for travel restrictions between Canada and the US. Once BC saw all the cases in Washington State the restrictions went into effect. Before the border was closed to all essential traffic such as trade, people were still going to Quebec from New York state.

I'm also inclined to agree with our doctors that it also had to do when children in Canada got out for Spring Break. In BC it is around the middle of March, Ontario and Quebec it is the beginning of March. So a lot of travelling in and out of the country.

There are just so many factors playing into this. And as I said BC saw what was happening in Quebec and Ontario and we learned fast.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

Hey Brenda - I really appreciate you sharing your thoughts!

To me Vancouver BC, Toronto, and Montreal are all highly international cities and I thought natural epicenters for an outbreak (though I was truly surprised by the sheer volume of air traffic between SoCal and China when I looked it up).

So to some extent it seems like it might have been a combination of lucky circumstances - BC was behind signal places like Washington state, Ontario, and Quebec. OTOH it took a very confident health officer to make the tough calls she made about borders, travel, and stay-at-home. Also, when it comes to testing, I think your health system isn't nearly as inflexible as the US one, so you were able to learn about cases earlier rather than later. I did look up the testing criteria for Ontario, and while it talks about high risk histories, it didn't forbid testing either. It left it up to the individual doctors. I imagine BC is the same. Here the Washington state case wasn't tested for 4 days because the CDC refused because ... the person didn't meet CDC criteria for testing. And I honestly don't think the CDC relented, I think someone fudged the test request to make it happen. And that started cracking the door open in the US to marginally expanded criteria. But here the testing is overwhelmed across the country and besides, now it's far beyond test and trace (tracing individual contacts).

Anyway, yeah, it looks like there was a bit of luck involved - BC didn't acquire SARS-COV-2 until rather late, and there was those spring break example form other provinces. But then, your health officer and your health system are capable of doing the job.

6ix, don't worry that Trump might lose the election; with a certain kind of audience, Trump is a huge winner:

‘Many people who are dying, both here and around the world were on their last legs anyway, and I don’t want to sound callous about that.’

That’s former Fox News host Bill O’Reilly explaining on Sean Hannity’s radio show why he believes the coronavirus pandemic is being overblown.

“The [U.S. death toll] projections that you just mentioned are down to 60,000, I don’t think it will be that high — 13,000 dead now in the USA,” O’Reilly added.

Hannity’s response? “You’re going to get hammered for that,” he said, before doing his best to soften the blow by helping O’Reilly clarify exactly what he meant.

6ix, again, don't worry that Trump might lose. What is the worst that could happen to him? He gets 60,000 votes fewer than he would have if Covid-19 had never existed? Those people weren't gonna vote for him anyway, if they had lived. That's nothing. Trump is still gonna win because he is a WINNER! (That last was sarcasm. Sorry about that. I couldn't resist.)

Just an FYI, trying to apply Twitter idiots on either side to the masses on either side is something that only idiots do. Twitter attracts the most basic, mindless bitches of all varieties and should never be used as a barometer for what normal people think.

And aside from that, you're deflecting again, like you always do.

Your original topic was that Trump didn't do enough to slow the spread in a timely fashion.

I showed you a dozen articles that look pretty insane now that hindsight is 20/20 that were all written by Lefty shills with TDS and quoting politicians that were also calling Trump racist when he did try to do something about it before it spread.

Your Fat Lazy President was told at the same time as the President of Taiwan about Covid-19. Taiwan acted. Fat Liar President did NOT act in time. Taiwan has 6 deaths. Fat Dumb President has about 5,000 times more deaths, not just 5,000 more deaths than Taiwan. That is the difference in results between being smart/fast/energetic and being stupid/slow/lazy/fat/liar.

The difference was that in Taiwan, if the President screws this up, the President will be assassinated and the country will be invaded by mainland China. On the other hand, Trump has no fear that Canada will invade or Mexico will send a hit-man to the White House, so he feels free to be as stupid and lazy as he wants to be. There will be NO CONSEQUENCES for Trump if he goofs off at his job.

6ix, the Republican Party created the America Health Care System to make the maximum amount of money for doctors. That is NOT how Taiwan is run. That is why Taiwan does better with Covid-19: When Kiyomi Liu moved to Taiwan from America in 2013, she was taken aback – in a good way – by its cheap medical fees.

“I paid NT$150 (US$5) for an obstetrician-gynecologist consultation, an ultrasound and medicine at a neighborhood clinic,” said the Hsinchu-based American. “Back home, my bill came up to US$1,000 (NT$30,700) for the same procedure. I had to pay everything out of my own pocket because my insurance deductible was US$1,500 (NT$46,300).”

Liu is among the 99.6 percent of Taiwan’s 23.57 million people covered under the government-run National Health Insurance (NHI), a universal health care scheme that ensures every resident has access to quality and affordable medical care. The comprehensive coverage includes both inpatient and outpatient care, prescription drugs, traditional Chinese medicine, dental services and home nursing care. NHI enrollment is mandatory for all citizens and foreign residents in Taiwan.

With over 92 percent of clinics and hospitals contracted to NHI, patients have a wide choice of doctors or hospitals to choose from. Wait times are short. You pay a modest out-of-pocket fee (copayment) ranging from NT$80 to NT$360 (US$2.50 to US$11.50) per consultation. If you are willing to fork out a bit more, you can go directly to specialty care without a referral. Each NHI user holds a ‘smart card’ that contains the user’s medical data. A swipe of the card gives your doctor instant access to real-time medical records.

Premiums are paid by the insured, employers and the government and calculated based on wages and supplementary incomes like bonuses and stock dividends. The government covers the premiums for low-income households, military personnel and prisoners. NHI collects premiums from the insured and reimburse payments to medical care providers. It also earns revenues from lottery and tobacco excise taxes.

No worries Kiki.

You would think so because each of those cities are major, major ports of entry into Canada, from the US and the rest of the world.

I have to admit that once all levels of government here in Canada saw what was happening they jumped on measures as fast as possible to protect. Health officers here are still hammering home the stay-at-home order as much as possible along with no unnecessary travel.

I think BC testing was left up to the doctors and that is a good thing. There was tracing done and that seemed to help find cases as well.

Of course now any travellors returning home Have to self-isolate for 14days and all help will be given to anyone who needs it. Canada is still bringing citizens home from abroad I believe but only through Vancouver airport and Montreal. They might be able to use Toronto and Edmonton as well.

We seem to be holding our own even Quebec and Ontario. No one is being denied treatment that I know of.

A little area of Montreal is making their streets one way. That means you walk on one side of the street to get where you are going and the other side to get home.

Another big worry for Vancouver and Toronto is the homeless situation. Vancouver has the poorest neighborhood in the country the Downtown East side. There is anything and everything you can think of there. So far there have been no cases there but the Vancouver city government is trying to find unused buildings to use the homeless and if need be for isolation. Hopefully that won't be needed. But they are trying to get more support staff into the area.

In the middle of a press briefing on Sunday, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and the government’s top infectious disease expert, tried to answer a question about whether an anti-malaria drug, hydroxychloroquine, could be an effective treatment for Covid-19. Trump has continuously touted the drug in public despite the fact that there is no conclusive proof of its usefulness and plenty of evidence of its harmful side effects. His heedless quackery threatens to kill thousands.

The last thing Trump wanted was for Fauci to tell the truth while standing next to him in front of the press, so Trump blocked him from answering the question and attacked reporters for asking about it. “You don’t have to ask the question again,” Trump told a reporter, while complaining that Fauci had already talked about the anti-malarial drug “15 times.”

Fauci has tried hard over the last few weeks to avoid directly contradicting Trump, particularly in official press briefings. He has instead used alternative media interviews — including a popular online chat with NBA star Stephen Curry — to try to get the truth out.

Yet the fact that Fauci must stand by and let Trump spout dangerous misinformation shows how Trump’s purges have intimidated the remaining professionals inside the government.
