6ix, you sound like Agent Smith in the Matrix. Or the Joker is every live action version movie about the Joker. 6ix, that is your nihilism talking about the end of the world. I see the same in Evangelical Christians, too, with their talk of Armageddon destroying everyone not their particular brand of Evangelical.

Some leaders (Trump) and some members of the public actively work to spread disease. Indeed, during today’s pandemic, it’s impossible to ignore the stark contrast between what is being asked of health care workers and the unwillingness of many Americans to make even the smallest sacrifice to protect others. Seeing the difficulty with which many of our neighbors summon even a modicum of respect for others’ lives is discouraging to say the least, and at times makes caring for patients on the front lines feel futile for physicians.

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

Yanno, we could stop Covid-19 almost dead in its tracks, if we just made N95s available to everyone, and they used them in indoor public exposure. Also, if people limited their household contacts and didn't hold big parties.

AND we could have prevented 40% ... 40%!! ... of deaths if nursing home and assisted-living workers followed better infection control procedures: N95s when on duty and hand sanitizing between patients, as well as UV disinfection of central air handling.

Seems simple, and minimal impact on anyone's freedoms. The only problems would be for dine-in restaurants, bars/nightclubs, and gyms, where people can't wear masks and still dine, drink, or exercise. People could still go to church (with N95s), or go grocery shopping (with N95s), or go out and run with the dog (keeping distance), or work (with N95s if they work closely indoors with others, like meat-packing plants or assembly-line etc) and the economy would still roll on with minimal disruption.

When I grocery shop I'm highly aware that in a grocery store with 200 people in it ... which is the norm for big stores ... three people are probably infected and don't know it. So far, even with those statistics, I've not gotten Covid-19, altho I shop in two stores once a week (N95), go to pharmacy and post office a few times a month (N95), and regularly walk the dog and chat with neighbors (outdoors, at a distance, with surgical mask).

There's no reason to believe or disbelieve in God or an Afterlife.

Personally, I'm of the mind that there is nothing after death. No thoughts. No memories. No fire. No clouds. No you.

This is the best that we get.

I'm not talking about armageddon or any other science fiction trope.

Humans will survive, as will many of the animals and plant life. But we're way out of equilibrium. There are far too many of us, and we just keep breeding and spreading like cancer. The viruses that pop up and make it on our radar to this point are just failed T-Cells.

Covid got it wrong too. Covid didn't help with that problem at all. Maybe the next one will.

What have you done today to earn your place in this crowded world? :)

Seems simple, and minimal impact on anyone's freedoms.

Somebody has been telling everybody that masks extremely limit freedom:

Ten years ago, Dr. Kristina Darnauer and her husband, Jeff, moved to tiny Sterling, Kan., to raise their kids steeped in small-town values.

"The values of hard work, the value of community, taking care of your neighbor, that's what small towns shout from the rooftops, this is what we're good at. We are salt of the earth people who care about each other," Darnauer says. "And here I am saying, then wear a mask because that protects your precious neighbor."

But Darnauer's medical advice and moral admonition were met with contempt from some of her friends, neighbors and patients. People who had routinely buttonholed her for quick medical advice at church and kids' ballgames were suddenly treating her as the enemy and regarding her professional opinion as suspect and offensive.

That wedge is splitting off health care workers from communities that desperately need them.

More than a quarter of all the public health administrators in Kansas quit, retired or got fired this year, according to Vicki Collie-Akers, an associate professor of population health at the University of Kansas. Some of them got death threats. Some had to hire armed guards.

"These are leaders in their community," Collie-Akers says. "And they are leaving broken." Collie-Akers notes these professionals also leaving at a terrible time. The pandemic is still raging. Vaccines still need to get from cities to small towns and into people's arms; public health officers are as important as ever.

And who, she asks, is going to take the jobs health care directors are leaving?

"It's not a secret that the position is open because of extreme tension between the health department director and the city commissioner, county commission, or because the person has required a guard," Collie-Akers says.

I think people don't manage their population for the same reasons they pollute the planet for the same reasons they strip-mine every resource for the same reasons the vast majority live in poverty while less than 1% lives in unimaginable wealth for the same reasons COVID-19 is running across the planet.

People have severe evolutionary divots in their thinking and instinctive responses: 1) they believe what they're told even at the cost of trusting their own senses; and 2) their basic instincts are as group dwellers in deadly competition with other human groups, 3) they react hierarchically to concentrated (easily controlled) resources, like Jane Goodall's chimps.

That's not to say people can't change. After all, there are the peaceable baboons of Kenya, and the courtly bottlenose dolphins of Australia. Surely we're smarter than the average baboon. Right?

They questions are, why haven't we changed even as we see the cliff we're jumping off of; and what would it take?

Ask your friend on Nextdoor who let somebody crash their house the other night what happens when you "change".*

The problem isn't just that there are too many "bad" people and that there is never any foolproof way to know this ahead of time. The real problem is that every single one of us is capable of doing very bad things given the right circumstances.

Combined with this problem is the fact that outside of some things that are so abhorrent that the can be universally agreed on as unquestionably bad, the definition of "bad" can usually vary greatly from person to person. Hell, I'd guess that if you did a study where you asked 100 people what is "bad" on a list of 100 things once every decade throughout the course of their lifetime that you'd find their own answers vary greatly the longer that study went on.

*As an aside, after your Nextdoor post I went into some detail about the last time I had picked up a hitchhiker and recommended that nobody ever let strangers sleep in their house or get a ride in their car. This was the second of two bad incidents that made me stop picking up hitchhikers. The first one saw me convincing cops that I wasn't the getaway car for a guy who had knocked over a liquor store earlier that night...

What I didn't mention though is that I'd given rides to strangers many times in the years leading up to that and met some interesting people and had some interesting stories to tell because of it. But the window has closed on that opportunity in the future because it's just not worth losing your life over.

Deaths

344,877___+3,076

December has been the nation's deadliest month since the Covid-19 pandemic's start -- with more than 63,000 Americans lost to the virus in the past 26 days.

In comparison, the entire month of November saw about 36,964 deaths.

I'll say it again. If you don't find this troubling you're a piece of shit and it's time you realized that. I think one of those many souls we lost this December may be our own Sister. She’s posted here since I’ve been here and before, practically daily. She always offered a kind thought. She came to be in my mind like the comforting weather girl recording in the movie Doc Hollywood Michael J Fox would listen to when he missed being home.

Sister posted covid had found a way into her home. She had already shared she had cancer. She hasn’t posted since December 16. All my hopes is she’ll get back to posting soon but I have concerns. One of my concerns is, like Oonjerah, she’ll have passed without hardly a notice after being the kind of Browncoat we should all aspire to be.

I hold out hope she’ll be back. I hope you do as well.

I'm quite possibly twice his age and unquestionably have 4 more years of higher education than he does. Oh well, stupid people don't know they're stupid and they certainly don't know how obvious it is to others.

Poor Jack, he gets so irritated and distressed when he is shown to be a fool that he looks for any reason no matter how small, to avoid the gist of what was posted. In this case he seizes onto the word too. Well Jack, I hate to disappoint but a Microsoft word spelling & grammar check says the sentence is good to go. What’s the gest of that? It’s good enough for these threads. And, it’s good enough to make you look stupid once again. That is where your real talent rests.

Wow, as is the case most times, you manage to grab onto something that makes you look stupid in multiple posts. Way to go Jack=ass.

Yes, Jack. Everyone does die but you keep singling out the old. And death isn't solely the purview of the old. Babies die all over the world every day and some of them while still in utero without having even taken that first sweet breath of life.

Children of all ages and teenagers of all ages die every day all over the world. Some through accidents, some through undiagnosed medical conditions, some through war, some through criminal activity of their own doing as teenagers. Some because adults are being a-holes.

People in their 20s die every day all over the world as well from accidents, undiagnosed medical conditions, through war, criminal activity and some because other people are being a-holes.

Same thing for people in their 30s and into their 40s like you Jack.

And I for one am offended by your tag line. I do not need to justify my surviving something that would have put others into the ground.

BRENDA: I am not referring to my heritage Jack. I am referring to the fact that I survived a brain tumour that could have killed me when I was 24 years old.

Strike five!

Jeez, I have never seen such a run of "stupid" and "nasty" from a usually-intelligent and decent person. Ya gotta stop thinking everyone is your mom. I know better than that. YOU know better than that. It's not "old people" who ruined the economy, SIX, it's the oligarchs.

You have to love the obvious when it comes to Sig. She refuses to acknowledge or state the apparent, Jacks a troll. The guy has no redeeming virtues whatsoever. She can't because she realizes she shares the same lack of ethics. It also opens her to an attack from Jack=ass she can't win. That she too is a troll.

’Inexcusable’: Sen. Mitt Romney slams feds' COVID vaccine rollout

As state and local governments struggle to vaccinate Americans for COVID-19, Sen. Mitt Romney blasted the federal government’s vaccine rollout plan Friday, calling it “incomprehensible” and “inexcusable.”

Again depressingly, we see the complete incompetence of Trumps administration. Hundreds of thousands of needless deaths. Perhaps the only justice we can be sure of, is historians are going to destroy him, most of his cabinet, the senate and all those who enabled and Irrationally followed him.

I wouldn't be so sure it's incompetence and not purposeful negligence, like slowing the mail. "Let's not be in too fast a rush... make sure we do it right... wink" its another way of putting his foot on the brakes without seeming to do so. He's been in a murderous mood lately - power tripping every time the numbers of dead people (Americans in this case) go up. He's a saddist - just another one of his *character traits.*

True G and also he has to own the news cycle. He's so sick a part of it may be that. Which, yes makes him a sadist. I'd add, there are a myriad of other things he's done that qualify him as being that as well.

Something how Dr. Fauci is revered by the LameStream Media as such a great professional, having done, they say, such an incredible job, yet he works for me and the Trump Administration, and I am in no way given any credit for my work. Gee, could this just be more Fake News?

It is peculiar for Trump to be so nice to Fauci, isn't it?
Trump Renews Attacks on Fauci as Election Day Nears. The president called leading infectious disease expert Anthony Fauci a ‘disaster,’ while Fauci said Trump’s attacks are more about making a statement than being anti-science.

Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious diseases expert, pushed back on claims by President Trump on Sunday that the federal government has "exaggerated" the COVID-19 death toll.

Appearing on ABC’s “This Week,” Fauci was asked by guest host Martha Raddatz about a tweet by the president calling the coronavirus case and death toll “fake news” and blaming it on Centers for Disease Control and Prevention methodology.

“Well, the deaths are real deaths. I mean, all you need to do is to go out into the trenches, go to the hospitals, see what the health care workers are dealing with. They are under very stressed situations in many areas of the country. The hospital beds are stretched,” Fauci responded.

“People are running out of beds, running out of trained personnel who are exhaustive right now. That's real. That's not fake. That's real,” he added.

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

It seems to me that we're being presented with a false dilemma: lockdowns or vaccination.

Treatment, prophylaxis (vitamin D), respirators, are all appropriate options. The anti- mask people are furthering this false dilemma by rejecting middle ground options.

Any honest person knows Trump created this dilemma. We know now how to do this but everybody needs to be onboard. Your boy Trump destroyed any hope for that.
