That's what happens when you pander to a mob.

It's not enough to wring your hands about it, as mayor, you have to DO something.

Apparently you didn't see my thread.

They did a lot more than set off fireworks.

They set the first floor of the complex on fire and they will be going to prison for attempted murder of every person that lived in that building.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

I guess I missed it. Where was it? I looked for it and couldn't find it.

SIGNYM: I was wondering if/when they were going to arrest him, or if they were going to be too afraid of the mob and play politics with the investigation.

As I posted, I looked at both videos on detail, tried advancing them frame-by-frame, and listened to the audio (enhanced and otherwise). I didn't see ANY indication that Reinoehl and either Pappas or "Jay" Danielson even exchanged words, much less had any kind of altercation.

I believe that Reinoehl committed "suicide by cop". Reading the tea leaves, I suspect that he knew that between the video, audio, and witness statements his story of "self defense" wouldn't hold up, and he either was so afraid of going to jail that he forced the cops to shoot him, or he was so committed to his cause that he felt he would be more useful as some kind of martyr rather than being convicted of homicide and bringing disgrace to the cause.

It's the only explanation that makes sense to me, but I could be wrong.

REAVERBOT: The cops hunted him down and assassinated him.

OH, BTW REAVERBOT, you might notice that none of your "online friends" are taking your side in this argument, because they can all see that you're fucking nuts.

Except SECONRATE, who steps in now and again to deflect from your failed narratives, because he's fucking nuts too. and he's pushing a failed narrative of his own. But you have BOTH said you hate Americans and are willing to kill us in service to your goals.

I guess that's where you overlap.

Not knowing where exactly to place this post, I put it here.

Headline from today's front page of the NYTimes:

Did This Police Maneuver Lead to Daniel Prude’s Death?
An action that an officer in Rochester, N.Y., called “segmenting” is normally used to subdue a person, but Mr. Prude was already shackled.

Which brings me to ask, AGAIN - why do police use additional restraints (dog-pile, neck-restraint, prone positioning, Tasers, etc) on people who are ALREADY in handcuffs?

Any answers?

A handcuffed person is no threat at all, especially when you're shoving their head into the concrete and you're surrounded by your fellow violent thugs.

No. Mr Prude was spitting, which is also a threat, so they used and anti-spit hood on him. (I remember once when I worked at the county hospital I was coming in the employee entrance while the cops were hustings a lady out in handcuffs who was screaming at them 'I got hepatitis! Don't touch me!' She apparently was cruising the hospital during visiting hours, stealing from patients and visitors and drug carts and so on. They found a whole pack of needles and syringes strapped to her thigh, among other things.)

Oh, absolutely. More than once! The most memorable because it was so unexpected was when a guy attacked me on a quiet empty Sunday-morning street with no one and no houses nearby. So flight was not an option. I found bruises the next day I didn't even know I was getting at the time. But I 'won' by not falling down or giving up my purse, and after punching me multiple times (at the time I thought he was shoving me) he literally ran off screaming in frustration. At the time I sized him up as only a bit bigger and stronger than me, and not carrying a weapon, so I felt reasonably capable.

The problem, Kiki, is that if we keep sending the message that cops can't do their jobs at all, then nobody will respect the authority of police and they will be emboldened to continually take things further and keep pushing that envelope until there is complete anarchy.

I actually was once like Marcos when it came to cops. If you look back on my OG posts when I first signed up for this site in the mid-2000's, I probably sounded quite a bit like him.

But then I grew up and realized how shitty your average person is and that more than half of them have no honor. There SHOULD be a reasonable level of fear when it comes to getting into an altercation with cops, because you can't apply the civility and respect for rules and other people that somebody like you or I would have to everybody.

Maybe in an alternate timeline where there were far less people on the planet, far more resources to go around, and far less greed at the tippy top we could live in that utopia, but that's just not the world we live in.

I just haven't found even one explanation for why cops should be using additional restraining methods once a person is in cuffs (aside from spit hoods). I'm more than willing to think about it and change my mind, but no one has proposed a single reason.

ETA: I'm not trying to make it hard for cops to do their jobs. I posted - more than once - that Rashard Brooks (the guy who took the Taser from a cop and pointed it at them) - was a threat and the cop acted in self defense.

I've been making one very specific and very limited point, which is questioning why additional restraints are used on people who are already in cuffs. In 2 very specific instances - George Floyd and Daniel Prude - the men were ALREADY in cuffs. WHY were they further restrained? Why shouldn't there be a 'bright line' at cuffing suspects, where further retraining measures like prone positioning etc are no longer allowed?

My point is that handcuffs aren't some sort of magic bullet.

Did you see George Floyd? Dude was a beast.

Headbutts are still a thing. Kicking. Throwing your entire 200lb+ body into somebody.

Let's not forget he was on a cocktail of drugs too. If somebody is drugged out of their mind and/or not being compliant during the process (which George Floyd undeniably checked both of those boxes, as well as being a very formidable person), then there's no reason to think that they won't continue to behave erratically and continue to pose a physical threat.

My buddy was a lanky little shit back in the day who weighed 120lbs soaking wet and loved telling the story about when he got a DUI and really pissed off the cops by throwing his legs through his arms that were cuffed behind him when they weren't looking and they threw him up against the wall to recuff him and warned him against doing it again. He was no physical threat to anybody, even when not cuffed, but there are a lot of people out there who are, even when they are cuffed.

It's simple. People have to just not resist arrest. There's youtube videos out there explaining in full detail about how you should respond when being pulled over. They've even got videos about how to behave when you're pulled over and you have a gun in your possession. Both a legal gun and an illegal carry.

Nobody wants to get arrested, but if you're not in the wrong just go through the motions and you'll be fine. All of this shit is on video these days. If you're looking to get shot, then behave like an asshole.

It's really just Darwinism at some point.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

DOOD. I ALREADY DISCUSSED THAT! Sheesh. What do you do for reading, nowadays? Your buddy - was certainly not representative of the majority of people for size or flexibility. And once out he was not going to threaten anybody physically, not even me, today, as an arthritic dumpy old lady. But there's a way to cuff little people so that doesn't happen, which is to pass the chain around a cuff to shorten it up (... as my retired cop friend tells me).

I dunno. I was able to squat sets of over 750 lbs when I was working out, and before I got laid off I was dragging around 2 1/2 ton pallets of water with a manual floor jack over a half mile total in between stacking 40 to 50lb packages onto 6 foot high interlocked stacks that wouldn't fall over for 8 1/2 hours a night after you take out breaks and lunch.

Firstly, you shouldn't apply your own physical abilities to everybody else. Even in the moment that you were in peak physical condition of your life, you've never even known what strength like George Floyd possessed actually is.

Another thing you're failing to consider is that there is more than one civillian involved in this equation in most cases. People in the car. People on the streets. And how many times to you see window tints that are far darker than the laws allow on top of it so they don't know what or who is in the vehicle they've pulled over.

That was my mistake when I got my ass hospitalized. Well, one of them. Thinking that my friends were going to be of any help if things went south was the other. I thought there were only two guys I had to worry about. One was a George Floydesque beast who at one point looked me dead in the eyes and said "I'm going back to jail tonight", but the other one was a lanky pussy I wasn't concerned too much about. I had 4 friends with me, and I was trying to avoid an altercation by talking down the situation.

Had I known that there were 4 of them and not just the two, and had I known that my friends were useless little bitches, I would have just gotten out of there and let that girl to whatever fate she deserved for having those people at her party in the first place, and I would have had a much greater sense of situational awareness and not gotten suckerpunched in the back of the head by somebody I didn't even know was part of the deal.

Getting shanked isn't fun. Having a catheter shoved up your nose and another one shoved up your pee-hole while an IV bag tube is shoved into an incision in your belly and then unceremoniously thrown to the floor to check for internal bleeding isn't either. And that's not even to mention how not-fun it is to be getting your ass kicked and hit so hard and with such frequency that the only option left to you is to try to roll yourself into a ball and cover your head, and you leave the scene completely unaware that you were even stabbed until you're driving away and your friend notices your bleeding all over your car seat.

I couldn't imagine what a thankless job it is to have to go into situations that could devolve into something similar all day long. Especially now when everybody in the country has an opinion about how you should be doing it.

Handcuffed or not, they shouldn't be expected to babysit somebody that they've put against a wall when there are other potential hostiles in the area. A thing that I'm sure any cop is thinking about quite often now after seeing footage of a midget walking right up to a squad car and firing shots into the window, execution style, with no warning.

Just get in the fucking back seat of the car and cool off. If you've done nothing wrong, you'll be fine.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

6ix, there you go again with your delusions of superiority. Seek help, 6ix: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superiority_complex

What the World Could Teach America About Policing

Examples abound of reforms that are seen as “radical” in the United States.

Abolishing a police force is one challenge. Replacing it with something better is another.

Key to that challenge is revamping the training for prospective officers. Here, too, the U.S. can look to other countries for inspiration. In Germany, for example, police recruits are required to spend two and a half to four years in basic training to become an officer, with the option to pursue the equivalent of a bachelor’s or master’s degree in policing. Basic training in the U.S., by comparison, can take as little as 21 weeks (or 33.5 weeks, with field training). The less time recruits have to train, the less time is afforded for guidance on crisis intervention or de-escalation. “If you only have 21 weeks of classroom training, naturally you’re going to emphasize survival,” Paul Hirschfield, an associate sociology and criminal-justice professor at Rutgers University, told me.

Joachim Kersten, a senior research professor of criminology at the German Police University, told me that police training in Germany covers everything from how to respond to cases of domestic violence to how to disarm someone with a lethal weapon. In the latter case, he said, “the emphasis is not on using weapons or shooting.” Rather, trainees are encouraged to de-escalate, resorting to lethal force only when absolutely necessary.

This level of restraint isn’t unique to Germany—it’s a Europe-wide standard. In some European countries, the rules are stricter still:

More at www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2020/06/america-police-viole
nce-germany-georgia-britain/612820
/
or
https://web.archive.org/web/20200714184351/https://www.theatlantic.com
/international/archive/2020/06/america-police-violence-germany-georgia-britain/612820
/

6ix won't understand because he is so superior to everyone since his stabbing.

My own opinion is that European police trainers are with the trainees for enough years to know which ones should NEVER be allowed to make life/death decisions. They flunk those trainees who would murder citizens if they were in an American police force.

No. I have done your little experiment. And a long time before you brought it up too. It's easy to do. What? Do you think a person becomes a turtle on its back by some sort of magical pose that the cops can put them in? You're fuckin nuts.

And how were they going to get Floyd to sit in that magical position that doesn't exist in the first place when they couldn't get him to comply with a single order?

See the difficulty?

My crippled 90 year old grandma could keep you there, god rest her soul.

"My buddy was a lanky little shit back in the day who weighed 120lbs soaking wet and loved telling the story about when he got a DUI and really pissed off the cops by throwing his legs through his arms that were cuffed behind him ..."

YES, i recall seeing your question. Recognized it as a spectacularly insipid and ignorant point of view, from an extremely coddled and ignorant place, hermetically sealed, cocooned, and insulated little world.

My first thought was "that is and Engineer question" - meaning "engineer accidentally encountered the real World, and is perplexed" type of utterance.
Then I chuckled, and then ignored it.

I could not fathom how to respond to an adequate degree without also leaving room for insult to be interpreted, so I left it alone and moved on.

I once saw a man who needed to be removed from an establishment, and he was about 150 pounds. 5 Bouncers had their hands full wrestling him out the door. Every bouncer outweighed the miscreant, and at least one bouncer was double his weight. One bouncer had each limb, he was face down, and the 5th bouncer kept kicking him in the crotch, every single step, and nothing had any effect on this guy - they tussled all the way to the parking lot, where they waited for police to arrive.

With Affirmative Action, all police practices must be able to be executed equally well and effectively by both men and women officers, no matter how petite they are.

What would you find the perfect solution for this case: already cuffed, inside cop car, breaks out windows of car and escapes, and unresponsive to tasering? I mean without injuries to the cops. (IIRC, about a half dozen cops present at the Jail's Sally Port). You are delusional to think this guy was no physical threat to anybody, whether old like you or not, whether male or female.

If they had additional restraints on him, he might be alive today.

Have you seen leg restraints? Why do you think they were invented? Why do Police Departments purchase such equipment? Is it just a conspiracy to waste funds on unneeded equipment? They created equipment that nobody would use?
Ever seen the chain that goes from leg restraints to handcuffs? Why do you think they were created, or purchased by Police Departments? Because there never was any need for such a thing? Because handcuffs are always adequate level of controlled restraint of an uncontrolled antagonist?

I am left with the conclusion that you would be completely useless in a firefight, in any capacity. Whether as rifleman, engineer, commander, or medic/corpsman.

Were they a hazard to anyone BUT themselves?

NO.

They weren't.

That's the issue.

Poof! The Portland Riots Just Stopped. Why?

... after the millions of dollars of destruction, criminality and thuggery it stopped last week. Poof!

Why?

I certainly don’t want to tempt these thugs, but it can’t go without saying that Portland’s 100 plus days of riots appeared to end after Wednesday, September 9th.

That's because the state troopers have been arresting them and actually detaining and charging them.

Then their mugshots have been going up on the internet for everyone to see.

Then they've started to get fired for being part of violent riots.

This was a quote from an "organizer" in Portland published in an article on July 27th.

On August 7th, they were tackled by Portland police at a protest and charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and interfering with an officer. They were also nearly immediately released on bail by the corrupt system of law in Portland, and as of September 16th they are now being a little crybaby bitch because their new internet fame is threatening their employment and they're making up stories with zero evidence that armed men are showing up at their door.
