There was another thread about this four years ago, to which JO thoughtfully contributed his platform (found on his website) but seeing as events have changed America, whatever ideas you might have had four years ago are probably different now.

So just OOC, what are your priorities for 2020?

What brought that to mind was this

It's time for Democrats to go big

So, these are Democratic strategic thinkers, and that's what they think.

What do YOU think of their priorities?

Agree?
Disagree?
Change emphasis?

Are you thinking?

Doesn't matter.

Trump wins big on November 3rd.

The only question is if it's a Reagan-style blowout or a Nixon-style blowout.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

He's the biggest problem we've got, so yeah.

Also, the Dems are almost indistinguishable from the Repubs. They serve the same corporate masters. The DNC has done everything they possibly can to crush progressives and ice them out.

Joe doesn't want to legalize marijuana. He doesn't want to defund police, or give us M4A, or a Green New Deal. He's basically a Republican.

Agree on that. IMHO both parties are to blame.

I take it that legalizing marijuana, defunding the police, M4A and Green New Deal would be your list of priorities. Anything else to add?

How about we stop putting any more money into schools, especially if we're just going to be doing it from home. Goddamned babysitting service and we can't even be bothered to stop putting out millions of retards who can't use the Metric System the rest of the world uses.

Put that money putting people to work fixing and updating our pathetically outdated infrastructure.

Take a billion Chinese and run them through the grinder and you'll get a few standouts that might just possibly move the entire country forward. IMO the Chinese have not too much concern for the individual. They're trying to solve BIG problems, not coddle people through them.

Well, I guess the Dems of Firefly are even more impoverished of throught than the DNC strategists.

That's a shame. I was hoping for some out of the box thinking.

*****

KIKI - everything you posted, and more.

M4A. Except medicare needs serious reform. The two biggest costs are prescription drugs (Medicare Part D is not allowed to bargain for best price... thank you GWB!) and hospital corporations. I follow a truism: if there is an activity that you want to promote, reward it. If there's an activity that you want to inhibit, punish it. You can't promote activity thru punishment, and you can't inhibit activity thru reward.

The problem with medicare is that it pays for medical treatment, not for keeping people healthy. It's far more lucrative for care providers to do multiple amputations than keep someone's diabetes under control. So reform needs some real out of the box thinking. But blunt force cost control winds you up with something like Kaiser HMO, with capitation and all that. I have PERSONALLY known five people with cancer that Kaiser delayed the dx with. In two cases it led to permanent disability and in one case almost certain death (stage IV pancreatic cancer, currently in treatment.)

I think the way to promote better service is to break up the hospital corporations and induce competition. Publicize hospital performance. Set aside of "health maintenance money" for each person and PAY them to stay healthy. Then people would have a reason to go to the doctor and keep their weight, smoking, drinking etc under control.

*****

Get rid of The Fed. The Fed is not Federal, it is a consortium of PRIVATE banks which loan the US Treasury money, and charge the government interest for the loans. I thought the Constitution said something about only the government being allowed to print legal tender? In any case, The Fed lends to ... whoever it lends to ... for BANK profits, not for investment. Lately, The Fed has been loaning trillions and trillions to ginormous corporations (in which the banks indirectly own stock) for stock buyback. Seeing as The Fed's helicopter money typically lands on the already extremely wealthy, The Fed has been the biggest driver of wealth inequality over the past 30 years or so.

Require 100% bank capitalization. Long story, but it would promote saving instead of brrowing.

As I posted: IF YOU WANT TO PROMOTE AN ACTIVITY, REWARD IT. If you want to promote hard work, contribution to society, and innovation, reward it by making decent-paying jobs available to all who can work and are willing to. Idle hands ... devil's worksop and all that. People need something constructive to do.

The money for that will come from the government, of course. Banks have bee shown to be irresponsible creators of money, preferring to lend it out for speculation instead of revitalization of industry, infrastructural repair, lower greenhouse gas-emitting technology, and environmental restoration. We need to invest in our future, not gamble with it.

Hmmm... what else?

Oh, yeah- legalize pot but cap total cannabinoids to (maybe) 10% of any product, since newer strains are so potent that they can really wreck some people's psyche.

Devise racism-free ways of evaluating job applicants, loan applicants, job performance, rental applications etc by requiring anonymized forms and devising three-people interviews (long story, but I think I have a way to make this work.)

Anything else?

Decapitate the CIA and the State Dept, which work hand-in-glove to destabilize nations around the world.

Make N95s available for everyone - everyone gets two per month, with instructions on how to use and sanitize them.

Require ID at polling places, and hand-marked ballots, hand-counted in public.

IMO this entire category is a structure based on a fiction.

You wouldn't have to cater to specific groups if you promoted a FAIR DEAL set of policies. And by that I don't mean competition in the war of all against all for the very few rewards, I mean just. Everyone has an opportunity to have a fulfilling life, if they work for it. That means equal schools, adequately rewarded work (one thing COVID-19 did was expose how underpaid our essential workers are), and equal access to quality dwellings, a clean environment, etc.

Of course for this to happen, we'd have to have an economy with enough adequately paid jobs for everyone. But that isn't going to happen without serious challenge to the wealthy/ powerful ... which the democrats aren't going to do. The fiction is the pretense that democrats are going to magically makes fairness happen if they can just find the right groups to focus on.

I want to highlight this in particular: ~pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants. Why?

Biden Wants to Return to a ‘Normal’ Foreign Policy. That’s the Problem

The campaign’s rhetoric on foreign policy is, to be fair, vague. It is full of invocations of American leadership and global challenges — the boilerplate you might expect. But it pledges an extremely wide-?ranging set of foreign policy goals, from advancing human rights and confronting autocrats and populists to ensuring that the United States military remains the strongest in the world.

These aren’t just platitudes. They signal a reversion to the post-?Cold War view that America can and should be everywhere and solve every problem. It’s the kind of approach that could commit the United States to more years of high military spending, an even longer “global war on terror” currently fought in over a dozen countries, further humanitarian interventions that turn into quagmires and a more confrontational approach to China and Russia.

In short, Mr. Biden’s vision looks less like a better approach to foreign policy and more like a rerun. As Paul Musgrave, a political scientist at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, put it: “His positions are so familiar as to seem more like a retelling of the conventional wisdom than a foreign policy platform.”

But this “familiar” approach has led again and again to failure in recent years. Whether in Iraq, Libya, Ukraine or elsewhere, the United States has encountered problems that can’t be solved with a more “muscular approach” or more “American leadership” (to use two favorite clichés of the foreign policy establishment). Mr. Biden is ignoring the one positive aspect of Mr. Trump’s presidency: that it has pushed Americans to question whether our traditional foreign policy approach actually makes us safer.

It's way too late for Democrats to "think strategically" and have a "future". They should have done all that after Hillary's loss, but instead they decided to be little fucking crybaby jerkoffs for the next four years. Now their Party is controlled by Leftist psychos and socialist pieces of shit like Sanders and the vile anti-Semitic Mob. Puppet-heads Biden and Pelosi don't wipe their butts without AOC's approval.
