CA, where I live, has a long history of devastating forest fires, and their causes are almost always lightning strikes, downed power lines, regular arsonists, and human stupidity.

In the case of the fire nearest me (Bobcat Fire), apparently some stupid people had lit a campfire to "read the smoke" (believers in santeria, I was told) to see what sex their unborn baby was (I guess they couldn't afford an ultrasound). Other past human causes have included such things as "gender reveal" videos gone wrong, welding work, grinding work (sparks), illegal campfires, car fires, "back fires" gone out of control etc. Yanno, people being stupid and careless in a tinderbox when the wind is blowing like a bellows.

Just in the last few days there was a flareup on the political right that President Joe Biden’s climate plan intended to severely limit Americans’ meat consumption. His plan said no such thing, but as the saying goes, a lie can travel around the world while the truth is lacing up its boots.
