Trump is a poster child for Russian and Chinese propaganda about democratic decay. Trump's inaccurate comments on election integrity sounded like a public service announcement scripted by the Kremlin.

When pressed on the facts about mail-in voting, Trump lied and spread conspiracy theories, despite the warning from the FBI and Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Agency that foreign actors and cyber criminals are doubling down on spreading disinformation about the elections. FBI Director Christopher Wray specifically said that he worries misinformation could contribute to Americans losing confidence in our elections.

Trump was more than a megaphone for such misinformation last night. With all the access he has to US intelligence, not to mention the fact that Russian disinformation efforts are public information, Trump should know that he's helping Putin attack the United States -- but he seems not to care.

Trump claims Biden policies killed over 308,000 veterans, but that’s not what investigators found

For example, one veteran in that group who appeared to have died waiting for care was shown applying for VA enrollment for the first time in 2009, and failing to receive any help for the next five years. However, the patient actually died in 1993. Investigators blasted VA’s records systems at the time as “generally unreliable for monitoring, reporting on the status of health care enrollments, and making decisions regarding overall processing timeliness.”

Republicans are resigned to the fact that Trump is unlikely –– or unwilling –– to course-correct. “Trump thinks he won. He didn’t,” said another Republican with ties to the campaign. “But does anyone have the balls to tell him that? No. They’d be fired.”

Trump doesn’t accept the consensus that the debate was a disaster because, sources said, he was unabashedly himself. “The thing about the debate is people got to see why no one that has any integrity can work for Trump. This is what Trump is like in the Oval Office every day. It’s why John Kelly left. It’s why Jim Mattis quit,” said the prominent Republican. “Trump doesn’t let anyone else speak. He really doesn’t care what you have to say. He demeans people. He talks over them. And everyone around him thinks it’s getting worse.”

To the extent that there was a substantive headline, it was Trump’s continued campaign to undermine public confidence in the upcoming election by baselessly asserting that ballots will be interfered with. “This is not going to end well,” he said, of the election, showing once again that his plan is to attack the very idea of voting itself. He then repeated it, as if for emphasis. “This is not going to end well.” It sure sounded like a threat.

West Virginia’s Secretary of State Mac Warner refuted President Donald Trump’s claim that a postal worker in the state was “selling ballots”.

The attempted fraud was a “unique circumstance where a postal carrier altered absentee ballot applications, not ballots,” Warner said. Postal worker Thomas Cooper pleaded guilty in July to attempted election fraud and injury to the mail after changing five ballot requests from Democrat to Republican. They would have resulted in Democratic voters receiving ballots featuring Republican primary candidates.

Trump said of ballots in West Virginia, “They’re being sold. They’re being dumped in rivers.” It was among several other false claims the president made about the nation’s election system.

Why Chris Wallace blew it: Even at its best, Fox News is a right-wing noise machine
Wallace got completely bulldozed by Donald Trump — but what can you expect? His entire network is propaganda
https://www.salon.com/2020/10/01/why-chris-wallace-blew-it-even-at-its
-best-fox-news-is-a-right-wing-noise-machine
/

The host of "Fox News Sunday" told The New York Times earlier this week, "If I've done my job right, at the end of the night, people will say, 'That was a great debate, who was the moderator?'" Wallace not only failed to meet his own low standard of uselessness, he actively aided Trump by peddling dangerous misinformation and pushing modulated versions of the same right-wing narrative deployed by Trump, creating a dangerous feedback loop.

Despite Trump's day-after complaints, for much of Tuesday's debate it was clear that Wallace simply let the president moderate. "If you want to switch seats, we can do that," Wallace offered Trump a little more than an hour into the debate. Wallace repeatedly interrupted Biden to ask Trump questions. He then permitted Trump to keep talking over Biden without cutting him off, and allowed lie after lie to go unchallenged. Much too late, Wallace tried to exert some control, but he rarely, if ever, succeeded.
---

On police violence and the ongoing protests in Portland, Oregon, the Fox News host portrayed the issue as nightly riots by the protesters — rather than nightly violence by police. People have assembled in Portland to protest police violence every night and cops have responded by brutalizing them. Wallace didn't mention the Trump supporters driving down the streets following a pro-Trump rally, shooting random people with paintball guns and pepper-spraying them. Wallace brought up antifa — all-purpose right-wing bugaboo of the moment — but made no mention of the men who traveled to a Walmart in El Paso and a synagogue in Pittsburgh to carry out what they interpreted as a mission of violent racial animus supported by the president.

Even if Wallace deserves plaudits for pressing Trump to denounce white supremacists, we wouldn't even be in this situation if Fox News and the right-wing media hadn't spent decades and billions of dollars promoting hate. Trump's most rambling monologues on Tuesday night were hard to follow for anyone not completely immersed in the Fox News conspiracy universe.

Obiden won't need to make nearly as much pretense of effort for the next Debate.

Instead of Obiden/Wallace team, it will be Obiden/Scully team. Steve Scully being an employee of Obiden, and longtime friend. Even attending the Biden Beach Bash as recently as 2016.

This is what passes for "unbiased" or "fair and balanced" for Democrats and other Libtards.

Long story. Care for one?

I'm far to the left of "liberal" on some things. I consider "liberals" to be namby-pamby feel-gooders (now called "virtue signallers") who want to feel like they're "nice" or "good" without actually wanting anything to change, or ever challenging power. I'm to the right of "establishment" Republicans, because I'm more nationalistic than they are. OTOH I'm not so naive as Libertarians, who believe that "If we only had real capitalism things would all work out" because capitalism always ultimately devolves to monopolism/fascism.

I used to think that the Federal government should step in and solve all of our problems. And while I think that there are some problems ONLY a centralized government can solve, I see now that centralized government is like the One Ring, and the way it currently operates it brings increasing numbers of people in thrall to banks and big corporations, and robs people of agency in their lives.

So if there was a function to a national government ... aside from protecting the people from foreign threats and balancing the rights of one group against another ... it would be to actively decentralize almost everything.

Donald Trump Can’t Denounce White Supremacists Because He Is One
He showed us again last night.

“This all remains very puzzling,” an angry John Roberts of Fox News said on air a few minutes later. “Stop deflecting, stop blaming the media. I’m tired of it.”

With all respect to Roberts, a far more credible journalist than many of the people at his network, it is not very puzzling. Trump makes his views on white supremacy crystal clear every time he holds a rally—every time he tells a Muslim, Somali-American congresswoman to “go back”; every time he says that “our country” is not also hers; every time he tells white Minnesotans that refugees from Africa are dangerous and a threat to their way of life. He made his views clear when he said that some white supremacists are “very fine people”; or that neo-fascists should “stand by”; or that a judge born in Indiana is biased because of his “Mexican heritage”; or that people coming across the border are “rapists”; and so on…)

The president doesn’t condemn these bigots because he is one. This whole exercise of asking him to condemn something and then wondering why he doesn’t is not simply pointless—it’s an active refusal to accept the facts as they’ve been laid out. He told you who he is; for once, you can take him at his word.

Also, just to bring this back around to Trump, Democrats, and Republicans ...

I voted for Bill Clinton for his first term, but when I saw what he did to banking, communications, commodity exchanges, etc etc. I voted third party. I voted for Gore, and then third party instead of Kerry. Voted for Obama, but when I saw what a fucking snake-in-the-grass he was, voted third party. When it came to Hillary v Trump, I could not stomach the thought of inking for Hillary. I know my California vote doesn't make a difference, but I voted for Trump to make a statement.

When I see all of the people who have been actively working against Trump ... twisting the FBI and the FISA court to serve their purposes, feeding him bad intel thru the CIA (BTW Gina Haspell, CIA Director is PERSONALLY refusing to declassify the Russiagate documents), enlisting the help of MI6 and Ukraine, "leaking" lies to an ever-willing M$M etc ... well, judging a person by their enemies, I think Trump is worthy of another term, if only to screw up the cabal of corrupt transnationalists.

*****

Also, I know I've mentioned this before, but ... you know, Marx wrote that he believed that capitalism would crush out all differences among people. That Capital would become world-straddling, and that we would all be ground down to interchangeable widgets, and that different languages, nationalities, religions, and cultures would disappear until there was only the proletariat (self-aware working class) and the capitalist, and ONLY THEN would a true socialist revolution occur. My friends (scholars of political theory, unlike me) used to refer to it as the "choo-choo train of history" because in this view the future was on a predestined course.

There are three kinds of people who advocate this kind of dystopian future: (a) the transnational elites and (b) their useful idiots (who think that there can be such a thing as a "world citizen" ... even tho there will never be such a thing as a "world vote" or a "world democracy" /snicker) and the (c) committed Trotskyist who is willing to push a camel thru a needle to get to the glorious other side, no matter how painful the cost.

In a conversation with Bytemite, lo these many years ago, the discussion presented me with a choice: either become one of those pro-globalists who willingly embraces a future where ordinary people have lost all voice in some planetary borg, or fight the inevitable and embrace (regressive) nationalism and democracy.

Just like I couldn't stomach voting for Hillary, I could not stomach the thought of being ruled by a global elite. I decided that I may be fighting inevitable forces of history, but I would rather fight for democracy than fight for something worse.

That's because Trump lied, as he always does.

Signym, you might want to look at what the Federal Government spends money on before deciding to "actively decentralize almost everything" as you call it. And so, I didn't bother listening to the debate.

It's just a couple of guys trying to dazzle you with their performance, and is totally meaningless to what is actually happening.

Trump is a NATIONALIST. He represents the national elite. Biden is an INTERNATIONALIST. He would transfer all decision-making power out of the USA political system and courts, and hand it over to trade tribunals, banks, and transnational organizations.

It is far easier to fight a NATIONAL elite than it is to fight an organization in Singapore or Basel or the City of London (which BTW is not London city), or wherever, since issues would be adjudicated in USA courts. So I vote to keep things NATIONAL.

Capisce?

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

Since this thread is about the debate, more or less ...

No, I didn't watch/ listen. Maybe I'll go back later and view it.

Anyway, I was curious how it resonated with the betting sites. They're far quicker feedback than polls. Every website I visited showed Trump down and Biden up. Here's an example: https://www.realclearpolitics.com/elections/betting_odds/2020_presiden
t
/

I think there's room for Trump to recalibrate and recoup, but he'd have to do that pretty quickly. And I can imagine him selling a reversal, but whether or not he'll try is to be seen.

In general, Trump's approach to COVID-19 I think cost him a lot of goodwill, that intangible indulgence people feel when they think someone is trying to do their best. I honestly think the Woodward revelations did a drip-drip corroding, because it became obvious that Trump wasn't being up front with anybody, and couldn't provide a reasonable consistent WELL MEANING explanation for that. He seemed to be shilling self-serving - but inconsistent - stories at every turn. Trump didn't want to panic 'people'? Give me a break. He didn't want to disrupt Wall Street. I wish he had done a better basic job on COVID-19. Then he wouldn't have had to tap-dance and look like a turkey.

As for the NYTimes tax story, except for rabid democrats who were never going to vote for Trump anyway, voters I think give it the big ho-hum, as they should. Rich people take every advantage of tax loopholes and ambiguities. And the sun rises in the east and sets in the west. What else is new?

We'll see how this turns out.

Define your idea of "far easier to fight". Why worry about fighting the International elite, or even the National elite, when the Local elite of, say, Harris County TX (Houston) is impossible to defeat by ordinary people? In a fight, I will get what I want, but maybe the governor or president could stop me in theory, except my lawyers will persuade them to look the other way. If you are a nobody, you're more likely to get justice from the UN or the City of London than from Austin or DC.

Cheating on taxes by the wealthy increased immensely with Reagan and just keeps getting bigger and bigger as the Republicans cut back the enforcement budget of the IRS. If ordinary people give a "big ho-hum" to enforcing tax laws against the wealthy, ordinary people will end up being screwed more and more by the wealthy as they grab ever more power with their increasing fortunes. I know where this ends: the top one percent own 99 percent of America's wealth and have 100% control of everyone's life in the lower levels.

Yeah, right.

I count you as a prime example of a virtue-signaller who never, ever wants anything to change. So, of course you'd like the chance for justice to be thoroughly out of the reach of ordinary Americans. And this is exactly what I'd expect you to say to get to that end.

www.taxpolicycenter.org/briefing-book/how-does-federal-government-spen
d-its-money

Let's start with what we know a Federal government SHOULD do:

Defend the borders against invasion, and the nation against malign foreign influence.

Control the flow of people, goods, and money across the border.

Make trade policies, and establish tariffs on imports.

Create and manage CURRENCY*.

As a part of that, control banking and bank rules.

Manage Federal lands and properties.

Manage and protect coastal waters

Make Federal tax law, and simplify the tax structure to eliminate ambiguities and loopholes.

IMHO the Federal government should make incorporation rules which require companies over a certain size to be broken up.

IMHO the Federal government should also run its own bank which can lend directly to sectors which need improvement.

And what a Federal government should NOT do:

Enter in agreements - INCLUDING ALLIANCES- which remove control and decision-making from USA Federal government purview, and place it in the hands of others. Military alliances are a special problem because they may involve the USA in a war not of its own choosing. NATO, is a great example of a boondoggle which has cost the USA trillions of dollars without ever increasing our security.

Interstate matters

Now, if you look at things that states share- water, air, transportation, biological resources like migrating birds etc - you might think that a Federal government should be the entity to manage interstate matters. However, there are all kinds of multi-state agreements on water rights, pollution control etc which exist and function quite well without the Federal government, such as the Great Lakes Commission (water pollution), the Colorado River Compact (water allocation) and NESCAUM (northeastern states air pollution control) so altho a Federal structure may be HELPFUL (NPDES is very successful, Superfund not so much) a Federal presence isn't always necessary.

Medical insurance, pensions etc

Have you ever wondered WHY medical care in the USA is so expensive compared to dental care? Maybe it's because there's national medical insurance funneling $$$ to healthcare, but not dental care. One of the problems with the Federal government involving itself with things like medical payments, old-age and disability pensions, and minimum wages is that Federal government payments are always the same, even though costs might be wildly different across the nation. So a payment, pension, or wage might be adequate in Alabama but insufficient in California. Or sufficient in NY but excessive in Utah.

I'm all for Medicare for all, but these wrinkles need to be ironed out or it will become just another way to funnel money to the healthcare sector, and from rich states to poor states.

*If you look at a dollar bill it says FEDERAL RESERVE NOTE.

WHY IS A PRIVATE BANK CREATING CURRENCY? Why is the Federal government borrowing money from a consortium of private banks when it should just be able to print it? Creating currency is the purview of the Federal government, according to the Constitution. "The Fed" (which has nothing to do with the Federal government) should be abolished.

The Federal government's concerns should always be geared, first and foremost, to the American people. The government should be concerned with the American economy, American national security, American environment etc. It should not be more concerned with matters in - say- Venezuela or France - than it is with matters in the USA. That doesn't mean that it must be a bully... there is such a thing as enlightened self-interest.

The decisions that really control your life are made by people like me, who you can see on the street or knock on their office door. You work for them. You buy from them. It is NOT the state government or federal government who controls your life. And people like me and my lawyers are grabbing all the wealth away from you. I've noticed that the poor and the middle class can't or won't act against their local strongmen. Instead they complain that DC is at fault for their hardships. If the middle class keeps acting stupidly and refuses to understand that their local strongmen, their local businesses, their landlords, and their bosses are cheating them, they will lose everything to people like me. Obviously the Federal government could rein in the power of your local strongmen, but that is why the strongmen have purchased control of the Republicans in Congress/Courts/White House, in order to sabotage the Federal government. Or as the Republican Party likes to say: keep taxes and regulations low. What is NOT said is keep lowest for the wealthiest.

I UNDERSTAND THIS PEFECTLY WELL. AMERICA IS AN OLIGARCHY BUT THE GOVERNMENT DOES THINGS FOR BUSINESS THAT TRANSNATIONALS AND AMERICAN CORPORATIONS CAN'T DO FOR THEMSELVES: MAKE AND ENFORCE LAWS - MANY OF WHICH ARE HEAVILY SLANTED IN FAVOR OF BUSINESSES OVER INDIVIDUALS.

AND THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT I'M DISCUSSING HERE: WHO LEGALLY CONTROLS THE LAW-MAKING APPARATUS? IS IT CITIZENS, OR FOREIGNERS?

ONCE THE LEGAL AUTHORITY PASSES FROM CITIZENS TO FOREIGN ENTITIES, THERE IS NO HOPE FOR AMERICANS.

YOU SEE WHAT FOREIGN CONTROL LOOKS LIKE BY LOOKING AT COUNTRIES CONTROLLED BY THE IMF OR BY THE EU: CENTRALIZED. NON-DEMOCRATIC, UNREACHABLE TECHNOCRATS DECIDING TO EXTRACT YET MORE WEALTH FROM ALREADY POOR PEOPLE.

Either citizens or foreigners control? Wrong, Signym. Neither control. It is guys like me, the Top 1% that control the laws and it has always been that way. Once upon a time it was King George III that controlled. Then the strongmen, George Washington and the other Founding Fathers, the Top 1% of the 18th Century, that controlled. This keeps happening every election because the other 99% have no backbones and no commonsense about who is running the country. It wasn't obvious to me until I got a little power about who is actually in charge. I know, in an idealized America, that the Federal Government could actually be in charge, but it is NOT because the wealthy have purchased a majority of the judiciary and Congress and definitely the White House. The wealthiest 1% own a majority of the shares in the Federal Government.

I know that, so stop telling me someting I already know.

But you live here, and your business is subject to American laws, so IF citizens stop wrangling with each other over divisive issues (democrat/republican, male/female, white/nonwhite ... issues btw that TPTB like you just love to stir up) and actually get their shit together, there is a legal way to reduce your influence.

Much as you like to think that you're "all that", you're not the biggest problem. Banks and transnationals are.

Brexit is an example of people finally gettting their shit together and bugging out of a foreign technocracy. It doesn't mean that Britain's problems are solved. what it DOES mean is that they now have a pathway to solve them.

And curiously, their Labor Party (ahem!) is a lot like our Democratic Party: complete selllouts to foreign/transnational rule.

Brexit promised prosperity. It has not delivered the goods because the Tories don't know how and aren't interested in learning. See Boris Johnson for an example of a blowhard who remains incompetent to delivery on his inflated promises. Or see Trump for another.

I did NOT make the American voters place a Top 1 Percenter in the White House. The equivalent move for Democrats was electing JFK. The voters are the 99% and they make their decisions every 4 years for some of the stupidest imaginable reasons. But why would the majority suddenly get smart once every 4 years? For the majority, their daily decisions are also as silly as their once every 4 years voting record. All you have to do is watch them at work, or talk to them about money, or even look into their grocery shopping carts and you will see they aren't as wise or hardworking or careful with their lives as they think they are. And the result is people like me run their lives all day at work and decide for them how much money they will have to spend. And when guys like me decide to underpay them, they go to the bankers and payday loan businesses who swindle them. You would think the majority could understand what to do and who they need to avoid, but they don't, which is sad for them and happy for the Top 1%.

SECONDRATE: Brexit promised prosperity. It has not delivered the goods because the Tories don't know how and aren't interested in learning.

With every post, you demonstrate what a know-nothing you are.

(a) Brexit is still being negotiated. Don't you think that it should be implemented for ...oh, say at least ten years BEFORE you judge whether it's a success or a failure?

(b) The economy of Britain is being rocked by Covid-19. Like I've posted many times before, Covid-19 is a shit sandwich no matter which side you bite: either you tank the economy, or people die.

(c) Even WHEN Brexit is negotiated and fully implemented, it is not a promise of prosperity. All Brexit does is re-home the decision-making process. The people of Britain must take the next steps and keep on pushing for true prosperity, and that means - among other things - taking on the City of London (which btw is NOT the London metropolis, it is approximately one square mile of a special zone where all the banks are located).

Jeez, you're such a loser.

No, he just made a fool of himself, and the polls show it.

Six in ten voters said Biden won the debate Tuesday, while just 28% said Trump did, a CNN poll of debate watchers conducted by SSRS found.

An even larger majority (65%) said Biden was “more truthful” in his answers than Trump was (29%), according to the CNN survey.

63% of voters said Biden had a better plan for solving the country’s problems than Trump (30%).

Biden was also victorious in a CBS News/YouGov poll taken after the debate, with 48% of voters saying that Biden won, while 41% said the same about Trump (10% said the debate was a tie).

Voters in the CBS News/YouGov survey, however, were down about the tone of the debate, with 83% of viewers saying it was “negative,” while just 17% said it was positive.

Nah. Unless Biden fell off the stage or his eyeball exploded, the Legacy Media was going to call that a Biden win.

Trump won.

Nothing happened for 90 minutes except for Biden admitting he doesn't support the Green New Deal, and the Bernie Bros lost their mind this week over it.

Everything else about that debate was a complete waste of time, and didn't effect any voters that weren't already entrenched on either side.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

Two years ago I was listening to the radio in Texas to Tory Jacob Rees-Mogg, Leader of the House of Commons and Lord President of the Council, who wanted hard Brexit and he wanted it now, not stretched out over ten years.

It will NOT be the British people who will rule over Britain. It will be this extremely wealthy asshole, UK's very definition of a politically connected strongman.

Being elected fulfilled his ambition to represent the Somerset parliamentary seat in which his family has lived for generations.

Jacob was educated at Eton before reading History at Trinity College Oxford, he then moved into finance being based in Hong Kong and later moving back to London. He set up his own company in 2007 with a group of Partners; it is called Somerset Capital Management and specialises in investment management in global emerging markets for institutional clients.

Great going, Signym. With Brexit, the peerage will once again lord over the plebeians. Instead of the top 1% running things, as in the US, it will be the top 0.01% in the UK. Thank goodness for Brexit.

But Reese Mogg can be voted out by the British, unlike (say) Christine Lagarde, who now heads the ECB, Ursula von der Leyen who is the President of the European Commission, and Kristalina Georgieva who heads the IMF. Between the three of them (the positions form what is called The Troika) they decide the economic, immigration, agricultural, financial, development, and military policies of the member EU states, and there's not much the EU states can do about it. So some nations, like Greece, Spain, and Portugal were put on the rack economically and their citizens suffer... but there's nothing they can do about it. And Hungary, Austria, Italy, Poland and other "frontline" states can squawk about floods of MENA immigrants crossing their borders but - legally- there's nothing they can do about that either.

There's not much democracy in the EU bureaucracy. The Parliament, for example, can't even propose laws, all they can do is respond to laws proposed by the European Commission, and all of THOSE members are unelected.

Yanno SECONDRATE, if you paid attention to something other than your permanent grotch, you might know something.

But you don't, and ...you don't.

So since you're a know-nothing douchebag who isn't even a source of information, and I've schooled you and exposed your ignorance enough already, you're going back on "ignore".

Signym, Brexit does not transfer power back to the Brit plebeians. It gives Jacob Rees-Mogg, who strongly supported Brexit, more power than he already had.

Parliament is a hobby for Tory Jacob Rees-Mogg, Leader of the House of Commons and Lord President of the Council. Whether he is in or out of Parliament, he is still fabulously rich, he made his money in the City of London from banking, and he will still own people, able to control their tiny lives. The Brit plebeians don't have any control of His Lordship. Jacob Rees-Mogg is a British strongman in the top 0.01% who does as he pleases and the little Brits and even Boris Johnson bow down to him and obey.

In contrast to super-rich and powerful Rees-Mogg, there is Senator John Cornyn from Texas. Nobody has ever obeyed Cornyn. He is a puppet for strongmen with money. If Jacob Rees-Mogg was an American, he would be pulling Cornyn's strings, making him dance to a tune about how the rich get richer.

Why is Senator John Cornyn a puppet? John Cornyn has an estimated net worth of zero. His liabilities roughly equal to his assets.

Senator John Cornyn is a big nothing, the opposite of an American strongman or Jacob Rees-Mogg. The other Texas Senator and one time Presidential candidate, Ted Cruz, has an estimated net worth of $200,000. Ted is a marionette for the top 1%. If Ted were President, he would be dancing for Trump. Oh, I forgot, he is dancing for Trump.

You keep posting nonsense over and over, as if it repetition will turn it into something other than nonsense.

And if democrats don't do any different, how are they any better?
