Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

I noticed that when Biden's* quoted on TV at length - 3 or 4 sentences - he's reading from a teleprompter. Otherwise, they're all literally one-sentence quotes. Apparently he can't speak coherently and at length off-the cuff.

Puppet in Chief.

Only real question is who's pulling the strings.

Nobody voted for Biden*. Of the small percentage of votes cast for him that were legitimate, they all voted against Trump and didn't care to even ask this question.

It's not as if there wasn't a mountain of evidence that he can't even form thoughts on his own anymore.

This is playing out exactly as I said it would. They'll get Biden to come out on a balcony and give people the "Papal wave" but won't let him talk face-to-face with... anyone.

How long do they think they can keep this going? How many drugs are they going to have to pump into Biden* to prep him for a normal Q&A, just so he can pay attention to the voices whispering in his earpiece?

There has been a striking contrast between Biden and Harris’s disciplined focus on passing historic legislation and Republicans’ fixation on “cancel culture”, from Dr Seuss, after the children’s author’s publishing house announced it was discontinuing several books that contained racist imagery, to confusion over whether the Mr Potato Head toy will still be a “Mr”.

The issue, which often gets more coverage on conservative media than coronavirus relief, is seen as a way of animating the base in a way that attacks on Biden do not. The president is not Black like Obama, nor a woman like Hillary Clinton, nor a democratic socialist like Bernie Sanders, all of which seem to have inoculated him against demonisation by the rightwing attack machine.

And despite its popularity with the public, every Republican senator opposed the American Rescue Plan, offering Biden’s team a chance to score political points. Lanhee Chen, a fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California, said: “It’ll be interesting to see how much they make it about the benefits of the plan versus about Republicans not having voted for the plan.”

I listened to Biden's speech.In a 30-minute video, 7 1/2 mins were of any empty podium.
Okie dokie!
He reads a telepromper good now!

But what does it have to do with anything?

He mourns the death of everyone, not just victims of Covid-19?
Oh, big deal.
All of the negative effects ... the parties that never happened, the jobs and homes lost, the isolation from loved ones, the vacations never taken ... were a result of GOVERNMENT MANDATE, NOT A RESULT OF COVID-19.

If you want to blame deaths on anyone, blame them on the government - the President and governors who did not take effective action soon enough.

And if you want to blame anyone for the jobs lost, blame state governments (mostly Dems) who were the first to institute lockdowns, which "flattened the curve" but ultimately did not prevent infection.

THE TRUTH?
IT'S A SHIT SANDWICH, NO MATTER WHICH SIDE YOU BITE.

And don't forget, the vaccines were developed UNDER TRUMP.

Biden's message?

TRUST GOVERNMENT! The same government that ordered nursing homes to take in people who had been diagnosed with Covid-19, causing about 10,000 extra deaths! (Cuomo)

TRUST GOVERNMENT SCIENTISTS AND DOCTORS! The same scientists and doctors that refused to even consider preventive medicine, like HCQ or vitamin D or ivermectin, which showed success as a preventative (not a treatment) in foreign studies.

There were a couple of things Trump COULD have done early on, but he didn't: Close the border to all incoming foreign travellers, and require ALL returning Americans to quarantien and

Commandeer all N95 masks and use war powers to build factories at home to make crap-ton more. Those "procedure" masks are only minimally-effective. Vatious studies have shown they prevented approx 1-2% infections and deaths, which is better than nothing but not really effective. But nobody has ever claimed that N95s don't work.

GOVERNORS could have clamped down on nursing homes, which is where 40% of deaths occurred.

And the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT could have given Sputnik5, the conventional Russian vaccine (not mRNA-based) an EUA, cross-licensed it to mfrs who didn' have a viable vaccine in the pipeline, since it is very effective and available earlier than the others.

what can Biden* do in addition to improving N95 capacity?

KEEP THE FUCKING BORDERS CLOSED, JOE. ESPECIALLY TO ILLEGAL ALIENS WHO MAY BE COMING IN WITH VARIANTS WE DON'T KNOW ABOUT.

END THE ENDLESS WARS SO THE COVID RELIEF PACKAGE (90% TO B BUSINESS) WON'T BLOW A COVID-SIZED HOLE ON OUR BUDGET.

The rest is all just emotional bullshit and phony sympathy.

The stimulus bill is the most economically liberal legislation in decades

Nicholas Lemann writes:

Traditionally, every new Democratic President starts out by passing a big economic package (and every new Republican President starts out by passing a tax cut). Jimmy Carter’s, in 1977, cost twenty billion dollars. Bill Clinton’s, in 1993, was mainly a tax increase, aimed at eliminating the federal deficit. Barack Obama’s, in 2009, which passed during the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, cost eight hundred billion, some of it spending increases, some tax relief.

The American Rescue Plan, which President Joe Biden signed last week, is on an entirely different scale. It will cost the government $1.9 trillion, even though the economy today is in better shape than it was when Obama took office; and, unlike Clinton’s opening economic initiative, it is proudly indifferent to the size of the federal deficit. The law’s most famous feature, its fourteen-hundred-dollar payments to individuals (meaning that many families will wind up with much more), is only the beginning. There are also extensions of eligibility for unemployment benefits and food stamps; debt relief for renters; subsidies for state and local governments that are out of money, so that they can continue to provide services; a bailout for insolvent pension funds; health-care subsidies; and a nearly universal child-care benefit.

The left’s disappointments with the adjustments necessary to get the bill through the Senate—it doesn’t raise the federal minimum wage, and the cash value of unemployment benefits was reduced—should not obscure the important point. This is the most economically liberal piece of legislation in decades. It is not just much bigger than but different in kind from the Obama Administration’s version, which helped people mainly through end-of-year tax credits. Biden’s bill was designed to send regular monthly checks to millions of American families, so it will be palpable that the government is helping them in a tough moment. Gone are the work requirements, the sensitivity to the risk of inflation, and other centrist concerns that have been at the heart of Democratic programs for decades. The side that always seemed to lose the argument within the Democratic Party has finally won.

In 2009 and again in 2020, the Federal Reserve drew the assignment of staving off a depression, which it did by keeping interest rates low and by buying many billions of dollars in financial instruments to prevent the markets from collapsing. Those maneuvers meant that people in finance, and, more broadly, people who have secure employment and assets in the markets, were spared the severe pain felt by millions of working people. Only Congress has the tools to provide direct help to the people most in need. That it is now able to act, quickly and effectively, is a sign that our democracy isn’t as completely broken as a lot of people have been assuming, and that government can moderate the grotesquely unequal effects of the pandemic on people’s well-being.

A year ago, nobody was predicting that Joe Biden would be presiding over a neo-New Deal. His long career didn’t seem to indicate it, and he was clearly not on the way to having large majorities in both houses of Congress, as Franklin Roosevelt did. So how did this happen? The obvious answer is the pandemic, which generated the sense of urgent, universal crisis that the American system requires in order to make major changes. It’s less obvious, but just as pertinent, that the response to the 2008 financial crisis is now seen as having been woefully insufficient, in ways that led to years of unnecessary suffering and a populist political revolt that disrupted both parties. It feels as if half a century’s effort to reorient the political economy away from the state and toward the market may finally have run its course.

No Republicans voted for the American Rescue Plan—it would not have passed if the U.S. Senate runoffs in Georgia had turned out differently . . .

Farmers, because they don't want to do things different than their grandfathers did, will say the same about Biden’s climate plan: Winning over US farmers

Reforms to agricultural practices will be necessary to fight climate change. But anything proposed by U.S. President Joe Biden will need buy-in from farmers – many of whom don’t support him politically and say they don’t have money to spare on new farming practices.

The equipment needed for greener farming can be prohibitively expensive for farmers, in an industry where buying a new combine harvester costs hundreds of thousands of dollars, said Garrett Hawkins, president of the Missouri Farm Bureau. “You can’t just change, trade in, or purchase new equipment just at the snap of your fingers,” the cattle farmer said.

Jenny Hopkinson, senior government relations representative at the National Farmers Union, said more money needs to be invested in figuring out the best ways to sequester carbon and help farmers deal with more drought and heavy rain.

According to a poll last October by the trade publication Farm Journal, 85% of 1,311 farmers surveyed suggested they would vote for Mr. Trump, who had no national plan to deal with climate change.

According to the 2020 Iowa Farm and Rural Life Poll, 81% of Iowa farmers now say they think climate change is occurring, up from 68% in 2011. Only 18%, however, think “it is caused mostly by human activities” – a view at odds with a global scientific consensus that people are the chief driver of the problem.

So much has been written about Biden* elsewhere. But this thread is more about Bush-Clinton-Bush-Obama-Trump-Biden* administration - and the things that Biden*'s supporters believe will change that actually won't.

So remember all those troops that Trump ordered withdrawn from Syria that weren't? If the non-withdrawal from Syria is a still-ongoing Syria(1) started under Trump, troop withdrawal from Afghanistan looks to be Syria(2) under Biden*.

An empire in love with its Afghan cemetery

What really matters is who’s staying: by no means just a few out of some 17,000 “contractors,” over 6,000 of whom are American citizens.
Collectively, this shadow army, a triumph of private enterprise many times cheaper than the state-sponsored model, bagged at least $104 billion since 2002, and nearly $9 billion since 2016.

Now we’re supposed to trust CENTCOM commander General Kenneth McKenzie, who swears that “the U.S. contractors will come out as we come out.” Apparently the Pentagon press secretary was not briefed: “So on the contractors, we don’t know exactly.”
Of course, we can always count on the Pentagon to “enhance security and stability” in Afghanistan.

All you need to know, reported on the ground, about the crucial first years of the imperial adventure in Afghanistan is to be found in the Asia Times e-book Forever Wars, part 1.

Two decades later, the politico-intel combo behind Biden is now spinning that the end of this particular Forever War is an imperative, integrated to the latest US National Security Strategy.

Shadow play once again reigns. Withdrawal conditionals include the incompetence and corruption of the Afghan military and security forces; that notorious Taliban-al-Qaeda re-engagement; the fight for women’s rights; and acknowledging the supreme taboo: this ain’t no withdrawal because a substantial Special Forces contingent will stay in place.

In a nutshell: for the US deep state, leaving Afghanistan is anathema.

The real heart of the matter in Afghanistan concerns drugs and geopolitics – and their toxic intersection.

Everyone with transit in the Dubai-Kandahar axis and its ramifications knows that the global-spanned opium and heroin business is a matter very close to the CIA’s heart. Secure air transport is offered by bases in Afghanistan and neighboring Kyrgyzstan.

I have a number of topics about Biden* not being the great white hope for peace, freedom, prosperity, and the environment as touted by the DNC.

Here's a recent one.

US tells Russia it won't rejoin Open Skies arms control pact

U.S. officials said Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman told the Russians that the administration had decided not to reenter the Open Skies Treaty, which had allowed surveillance flights over military facilities in both countries before President Donald Trump withdrew from the pact. As a presidential candidate, Biden had criticized Trump’s withdrawal as “short-sighted.”

(As announced by the State Department) "Further, Russia’s behavior, including its recent actions with respect to Ukraine, is not that of a partner committed to confidence-building.”

Thursday’s decision means only one major arms control treaty between the nuclear powers — the New START treaty — will remain in place.

The Trump administration announced the U.S. withdrawal from the treaty last year, and the lower house of Russia’s parliament voted last week to follow suit. But until Thursday, the two sides had said the treaty could still be salvaged. Russian officials said they were willing to reconsider their withdrawal if the U.S. did the same.

If withdrawing from the Open Skies nuclear pact with Russia wasn't enough, here's the Biden* administration (with Blinken* setting the policy) egging on NK.

North accuses US of hostility for S. Korean missile decision

North Korea said Monday the U.S. allowing South Korea to build more powerful missiles was an example of the U.S.’s hostile policy against the North, warning that it could lead to an “acute and instable situation” on the Korean Peninsula.

It’s North Korea’s first response to the May 21 summit between the leaders of the United States and South Korea, during which the U.S. ended decades-long restrictions that capped South Korea’s missile development and allowed its ally to develop weapons with unlimited ranges.

(NK has said) it won’t return to talks and would enlarge its nuclear arsenal as long as U.S. hostility persists.

I just want to reiterate something Signy has been posting for years - that Presidents have very little direct control over internal things like laws and the economy, because of. The House. The Senate. The Supreme Court. To control the US you have to control those institutions by controlling the members.

And then there's control of the popular mind through. The m$m.

And control of the economy through. The Fed.

What President's have MOST control over as Signy has pointed out many times, is foreign policy. (Though, as we found out under Trump, as Commander in Chief they have zero control over. The army.)

It looks like Biden* has ceded foreign policy to Blinken*, who represents a country not the US, and somebody not us. Harris* is also stepping onto the world stage, but disastrously. I have a suggestion for the people running Blinken* - send Harris* out to do the opposite of what you really want to have happen. She'll torpedo that so quickly it'll become a complete non-starter.

Today FDA announced that, since their review board recommended against approval of new Alzheimer's drug by Biogen, the FDA is approving the drug.
In completely unrelated news, 2 members of the Review Board have resigned in protest.

Anybody know how much is the Biden bribe...errr, kickback, from biogen? Does this bribe need to filter through Hunter first, or directly to Dr. Jill and the Meat Puppet?

Maybe somebody can post a linky.

Well, Biden*'s had a while now to build up a record of actions, to compare to his rhetoric, and to evaluate in general.

First topic randomly selected is China.

For all his bluster, Trump's approach to China/ Asia was pretty clear. Militarily he was not aggressive, was loosening the military ties between the US, Australia, Japan, and S Korea, but was hawkish on Chinese trade, and he seemed reluctant to intervene in Chinese internal affairs re Uighurs, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

What about Biden*?

According to the m$m, Blinke* ... I mean Biden*, is pursuing a far more militarily aggressive stance towards China, especially with regards to NATO.
When it comes to Chinese internal affairs, while the m$m does bring up the topics of Uighurs, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, they've been put on the back burner to keep warm in case they need to be brought back up to a boil.
I think we all now recognize a tidal shift when it comes to SARS-CoV-2, and 'blame China and don't look any further' has replaced the original narrative. (My intuition tells me the 'blame China but stop looking there' narrative is a cover-up for serious US involvement in the problem.)

But what about the facts? If I were to look more deeply into this topic, rather than rely on mundane m$m narratives that pass for m$m reporting, I'd look at whether or not China's continuing to buy US bonds, and Chinese exports to the US (and whether or not US import duties have been continued), US exports to China, or any indication that China's significantly severing its economy from the US; plus the changing state of any sanctions.

The Biden administration has told the Department of Homeland Security not to speak freely about the growing border crisis, according to Breitbart, which spoke with a "senior-level law enforcement source" within DHS who spoke on condition of anonymity.

"The situation with media relations now is night and day compared to the last administration," said the official. "We have been advised not to speak on immigration issues at the border and to rely on DHS’s Office of Public Affairs and the White House Press Office to handle messaging."

The verbal order applies to senior law enforcement leaders within DHS and has no formal expiration date. It comes as the administration is struggling to manage the growing crisis caused by changes in border security and immigration policies leading to a spike in illegal crossings at the border.

As local communities along the border continue to grapple with the release of migrants into their communities, the administration is facing criticism even amongst their own ranks, Breitbart reported.

The report comes after senior members of the Biden administration - DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and Susan Rice - visited several cities in Texas to observe the border crisis first hand. Members of the press were not allowed to accompany the officials' visit to Border Patrol stations and a Health and Human Services detention facility for unaccompanied minors.

According to a source familiar with the DHS media restrictions, the prohibition is designed "to prevent the imagery of overcrowded facilities from circulating."

Meanwhile, a viral video tweeted on Sunday by Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) reveals: "The tip of the iceberg near Yuma, AZ as immigrants begin to flood into the US responding to magenta>@JoeBiden ’s open border, catch and release policy."

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

I've been posting in various threads how we're currently being subjected to a steady propaganda drip.drip.drip.drip... of rhetoric about RUSSIA!!! (currently KAZAKHSTAN!!!) and CHINA!!! (currently TAIWAN!!!) to get us behind a 2-front war. If it's not going to be a kinetic one, it'll at least be a cold one. But these items are just the most recent propaganda push in a years-long history of propaganda, spanning both Trump's and Biden*'s administrations.

Evil CHINA!!! has been constantly in the news over the last few years when it comes to UYGHURS!!!! HONG KONG!!! and now TAIWAN!!! ... all portrayed as powerful reasons we should be involved in China's internal politics ... because. Just, because!

And of course evil RUSSIA!!! has been highlighted via SYRIA!!!, UKRAINE!!!, and more recently KAZAKHSTAN!!!

Russia's recent declarations - its line in the sand along its borders basically holding the US and Europe to their treaty obligations and promises not to destabilize European security and peace - briefly took the air out of some of that propaganda.

But - not to be outdone!! and also to prevent any semblance of reality from penetrating the narrative - tptb are countering with a strong propaganda push.

So while Biden* is now being dutifully trotted out as the moderate face of reason who'll talk with RUSSIA!!! to avoid a kinetic war over UKRAINE!!! this is merely a diversion. Tptb don't really intend to follow through with anything substantive. They intend to pursue their 2-front RUSSIA!!/ CHINA!!! war.

I say this because we're being subject to that steady propaganda drip.drip.drip.drip... of rhetoric. I've previously posted examples elsewhere. Here are today's:

Also, fwiw, if you ever wondered who determines foreign policy, it's not the President.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

Just to point something out: even though the US is NOT done with Afghanistan, and is actively involved in 'over the horizon' warfare, it's not much in the news these days. Instead, we're being treated to even less relevant propaganda about a less vital area - amazingly that's possible - non-stop.

So for fun I just thought I'd point out the ongoing drumbeat:

Watching Biden*, a few things are exceptionally clear to me.

Biden* doesn't run foreign policy. That's run by the Deep State, and whoever in it is in ascendancy at the moment. BTW, I just wanted to mention that the Deep State (hopefully) knows that nuclear war is off the table, and that Russia's economy has been hardened against the US and diversified globally. And I believe the Russians know what's what not only with their own country, but with the US.
The only people being kept in the dark about reality are us poor slobs, bamboozled by the CIA/ propaganda/ m$m/ narrative at every turn. It sure makes you wonder what all the propaganda is for, if it's not fooling the Russians. It makes me wonder, anyway.
(By contrast, Trump quite obviously tried to run foreign policy, but was stymied by the Deep State going around him to implement its own policies for example, the non-withdrawal of the US from Syria, and the non-stop propaganda about evil RUSSIA!!!RUSSIA!!!RUSSIA!!!.)

When it comes to COVID-19, Biden* is running into Constitutional difficulties. I think Biden* COULD draft a policy that would hold - the same way Trump took 3 (or 4) tries each at keeping terrorists out, and creating a 'remain in Mexico' policy, before those policies finally passed legal challenge. But Biden's* administration is too disinterested and too incapable. Anyway, Biden* over-promised and seems unable to manage to deliver anything substantive.

When it comes to solving global warming, expect nothing from the democratic* party or Biden*. That was an easy pre-election prediction.

When it comes to democrats* screwing the little guy but letting corporations pass, that too was an easy pre-election call. (see new IRS rules about reporting income over $600 dollars through third party transaction processors; "American Rescue Plan Act")

When it comes to the democratic* party agenda, specifically the mockery voting law, hopefully Sinema and Manchin will hold steady and save us from a bad law.

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

And took aim at Belarus, Kazakhstan, Russia (via Ukraine), and now (it appears) China too!

Not a great record.
