First step, obviously, is to grow the fuck up.

Do that and the rest will take care of itself.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

Quote:

“We have a lot of other things to do. I think the worry is that the risk of incitement doesn’t go away, that the president is still going to control the sentiments of a big group of people,” said Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.). “As much as I would love to cast him in the waste bin, he is going to continue to influence American politics and influence a lot of his most rabid followers.”
God forbid anybody other than an approved democratic* drone should have a political voice in the US democracy hypocrisy.

Here is the Libtard delusion exposed.

Libtards think that all supporters are "followers" and that they must be told what to think, how to think, when to think, just because all Libtards are lemmings this way.

This mistaken thinking was the same with Rush Limbaugh and Dittoheads. Libtards could not understand that vast swathes of Americans thought the same way, on their own, screamed at the moronic MSM Fake News the same way, on their own and independently, and they coalesced behind somebody with the same voice they had, but who was publicly broadcast. They are not followers, but Rush was their spokesperson because he said the same things they had been thinking for decades. And then Trump tapped the same vein, pointing out the obvious FAKE NEWS that all reasonable folk had been noticing, and he bypassed the MSM. They might be his supporters, but they are not blind followers.

Agreed.

Libtards are, by definition, blind followers. They're as religious about their ideology as any born-again Xtian. They can't confront inconvenient facts or base their opinions in anything like logic.

And, they're haters. They hate, hate, hate 24/7/365.

IMHO the point of the DNC's attacks against Trump supporters is to provoke action which will allow an even more militarized security-state response from TPTB.

The antidote to this is just to laugh at them until they get bored and start tearing each other apart when they don't get the reaction that they are looking for.

Typical tactics for dealing with bullies 101.

Have you noticed that Marcos didn't completely lose his mind and start telling people to kill themselves everyday until AFTER Biden* was sworn in?

I did.

His first time was on 1/23 of this year. By the end of January, he'd already done it 11 times. An average of once per day after Biden* was inaugurated.

It's been four years now of him being awful, or at least that I know of after I sobered up, but aside from some criminals who pulled some dumb shit in DC, the other 70 million people who voted for Trump aren't doing what he KNEW they were going to do, and we're not entertaining him like he thought he was going to be entertained when Trump was out.

He hates the fact that I'm not behaving like he did for the entirety of the previous administration, so he's losing his mind now.

Eventually he will grow bored and direct that anger and hate somewhere else.

In the mean time, all I'm going to do is tune out of politics as much as possible and laugh when he realizes he isn't going to get anything he thought he voted for and laugh twice as hard while watching him and Nilly and whoever else wants to come in here and say a bunch of dumb hateful shit. They really are quite amusing.

Foreign Policy says your understanding is incorrect: Existing models of U.S. politics are wrong. Here’s how the system really works.

To entice Signym to read the article, here is a paragraph: There are many proposals on the table to ameliorate polarization. But perhaps the most fundamental, and hardest to do, is to change the way we think about politics. Elections in the United States are not being fought over rival principles and certainly not over median voters. They are contested over which parts of the country will grow and how and who will pay for it. Recognizing this is the first step to fixing the deeper problems . . .

Consider that, according to the Brookings Institution, Biden won 509 counties to Trump’s 2,547—that’s over five times as many going to Trump. But here’s the kicker. Biden’s counties constitute 71 percent of the country’s GDP. Trump’s is less than 30 percent. Surely we must somehow factor this into how we think about why people vote the way they do? How does growth, or the lack thereof, determine elections?

Democrats and Republicans can’t compromise because their economic models are antithetical to each other and the middle means death. For almost half of U.S. states, the Green New Deal, which is—sotto voce—at the center of Biden’s platform, spells the end of their existing strategies—think fracking, refining, plastics, mining, logging, and so on. And for the other half of the states that support the Green New Deal, scaling back its objectives to attract support from the carbon coalition threatens the post-carbon coastal communities. Will Silicon Valley and Wall Street remain above water at 2 degrees Celsius global warming? There is simply no way to build a centrist coalition across this divide.

There is only one way to fix this mess. The post-carbon coalition has to bribe Republicans to make the carbon transition. Non-coastal, largely Republican states must be the epicenter of the green transition and be the recipients of most of the investment. After all, they have the most assets to turn around and the most to lose if they are not compensated. If all they are offered is “you decarbonize/we keep the money,” then all they will give back is more Trumpism.

There are clear parallels in U.S. history, such as the massive bribe that the urban sector began paying to farmers in 1933 with the Agricultural Adjustment Act and two generations of generous farm bills thereafter. Yet the bribe this time must involve more than a subsidy; it requires exiting the carbon economy. For it to work, green investment must extend well beyond energy capture (solar and wind farms) and downstream into industries that are powered by alternatives. Massive investments in electric vehicle production, for instance, to support a rapid turnover of the U.S. motor vehicle fleet with U.S.-built cars and trucks, are required.

The Supreme Court is still sitting on Trump’s tax returns, and justices aren’t saying why

Lawsuits involving Donald Trump tore apart the Supreme Court while he was president, and the justices apparently remain riven by him.

For nearly four months, the court has refused to act on emergency filings related to a Manhattan grand jury’s subpoena of Trump tax returns, effectively thwarting part of the investigation.

The Supreme Court’s inaction marks an extraordinary departure from its usual practice of timely responses when the justices are asked to block a lower court decision on an emergency basis and has spurred questions about what is happening behind the scenes.

Chief Justice John Roberts, based on his past pattern, may be trying to appease dueling factions among the nine justices, to avoid an order that reinforces a look of partisan politics. Yet paradoxically, the unexplained delay smacks of politics and appears to ensnarl the justices even more in the controversies of Trump.

Trump hasn't paid any taxes in 20 years, which makes it an emergency. He is NOT President, meaning there's NOT reason for him to continue stalling. There are 4,280,000 reasons for him to pay this month what he owes. Here are three reasons:

How Screwed Is the Trump Hotel D.C.?

The reckoning that Trump’s D.C. hotel faces in Joe Biden’s Washington isn’t just the result of Trump’s bungled response to a raging pandemic followed by an election loss and attempt to subvert democracy. After all, without any of those factors, Trump previously steered six hotels into bankruptcies.

The Trump Hotel D.C. business plan befuddles industry experts, it has a $170 million mortgage that’s coming due, and a new landlord who does not double as the hotel’s owner. While the federal government won't evict the Trump Organization, the ex-president’s company doesn’t seem happy to hang around. It tried to unload its lease in 2019 and couldn’t find someone to meet its asking price.

The Trump Hotel’s self-inflicted financial problems began in 2012, when the General Services Administration accepted the Trump Organization’s bid to lease D.C.’s Old Post Office from the government and operate the 1899 Romanesque Revival building as a luxury hotel. Industry experts told the Washington Post at the time that for the Trump Organization to justify its $200 million investment and $3 million in annual rent payments, the hotel’s average room rates would need to be the highest in the city by about 50 percent. (Ivanka Trump, then an executive at the Trump Organization, said the calculations were wrong.) The calculations weren't wrong. Trump's hotel is in trouble.

According to Trump’s tax records obtained by the New York Times, through 2018 the hotel lost $55.5 million.

Then came the COVID-19 pandemic, which intermittently shuttered the hotel’s bar and restaurant business. “America’s Living Room,” as the hotel’s manager likes to bill the lobby, suddenly resembled the deck of the Titanic — empty and underwater.

For the duration of the Trump administration, GSA officials were strong defenders of Trump’s ownership of the hotel. One contract officer ruled that the president’s ownership didn’t violate the lease despite a clause barring elected officials from becoming party to it. GSA’s long-standing plans to relocate the FBI headquarters, located across the street from the hotel, were scuppered, blocking that property from possibly being redeveloped as a rival hotel (House Democrats alleged, with evidence, that Trump meddled in that decision). And GSA’s administrator refused to comply with a subpoena to release unredacted financial documents to a House panel with oversight of the lease.

March 4 is the original inauguration date for U.S. presidents. Many followers of the QAnon hoax believe Trump will regain the presidency that day and finally vanquish the Deep State. The cheapest rooms at the Trump Hotel D.C. that night start at more than $1,300.
