And for one brief, shining moment, justice happened.

I am grateful that that evil piece of shit is going to prison, where he will be beaten and raped by people who are no different from him.

It's almost a surprise that a white piece of shit pig got what he deserved. Our work is far from done, fellow patriots, but this is a move in the right direction.

Convicted on all charges. But, don't let facts get in your way. You never have. Why start now?

It will be appealed and thrown out.

You can thank Maxine Waters and Biden* in particular when that happens.

And the fact that it wasn't murder.

There was this long-accepted train of 'thought' that went like this: Well, you weren't there in the moment. And cops just did what they thought they needed to do at the time they did it.

But imo there are things that need to be looked at and hard-line policies made AHEAD of time. For example - what's the need for continued use of force when a person is in handcuffs? Why put a person prone while they're in handcuffs? And if the person is spitting while in handcuffs, after you apply a spit hood, what's the need for continued use of force? If you imagine that somehow a person is going to flee while in handcuffs can police be issued leg restraints? And how about calling in EMTs if a person seems irrational?

I think police are trained that the person must be ABSOLUTELY STILL AND QUIET for the situation to be considered 'under control'. Because - somehow - wiggling and mouthing-off and are a threat. But that claim's never been backed by any science that I know of.

Instead of continuing the let cops do 'whatever', there needs to be actual facts and actual policies regarding any use of force.

We knew that Derek Chauvin was guilty—Floyd's murder was caught on film for the world to see. Chauvin knelt on Floyd's neck for more than nine minutes as Floyd cried out "I can't breathe," but even this was no guarantee that Chauvin would be held accountable. The American justice system is built on foundations of white supremacy and the protections the system offers cops who commit acts of violence against Black and brown people are extraordinary. Chauvin's own history in the Minneapolis Police Department proves that, as he had 18 complaints filed against him before he murdered George Floyd, but was allowed to continue on in his job because the system successfully shielded him from accountability time and time again.

It took extraordinary pressure from protesters in Minneapolis and across the country for nearly a year to earn even this small victory, and we need to recognize this as a victory for those activists—not a victory for the system. The system is still broken and we need to keep fighting to fix it.

Not just “a few bad apples”: U.S. police kill civilians at much higher rates than other countries

Police violence is a systemic problem in the U.S., not simply incidental, and it happens on a scale far greater than other wealthy nations.

by Alexi Jones and Wendy Sawyer, June 5, 2020

There is no question that the number of police killings of civilians in the U.S. – who are disproportionately Black and other people of color – are the result of policies and practices that enable and even encourage police violence. Compared to police in other wealthy democracies, American police kill civilians at incredibly high rates:

Sounds like it's in line with the higher rate of violent crime here than other wealthy nations. This violence is almost exclusively in minority communities.

You sound like Trump, except briefer:
Quote:

President Donald Trump on Thursday defended what was perhaps his most notorious remark on the campaign trail about Mexicans — a comment that was widely perceived as racist and helped solidify his reputation as an immigration hardliner.

In June 2015, while Trump was a presidential candidate, he said, "When Mexico sends its people, they're not sending their best."

He added: "They're sending people that have a lot of problems, and they're bringing those problems with us. They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists. And some, I assume, are good people."

Trump referred to those comments on Thursday during a televised discussion on
taxes that veered into immigration.

"Remember my opening remarks at Trump Tower when I opened — everyone said, 'Oh, he was so tough.' I used the word 'rape,'" Trump said.

"And yes, it came out where this journey coming up — women are raped at levels that nobody's ever seen before," he continued. "They don't want to mention that. So we have to change our laws. And the Democrats, what they're doing is just — it's insanity. Nobody understands what's going on."

By the way, 6ix, Trump is a big fat idiot.

The history of police killing children in America

According to a study by researchers at the Children’s National Hospital, Black children are six times more likely to be fatally shot by police than white children.

A study published in 2014 showed that Black children are often perceived as older than their white counterparts of the same age. The study reported that police officers “overestimated the age of Black and Latino child crime suspects. White children, on the other hand, were not subjected to such overestimations.” An officer sees a nonwhite child as a threat capable of inflicting harm which seamlessly translates to a willingness to kill them. Black and brown children are being cheated of the protection that society should offer them because officers view them as adults.

The Chicago PD has killed more young people than any other local law enforcement agency in the country. The Columbus PD is a close second.

Turns out he's done this before, back in 2017.

Late last year, as a team of Minnesota state prosecutors was preparing for the trial that would ultimately convict former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin of murdering George Floyd, they received a series of videos depicting Chauvin's handling of another case three years earlier that by their own description shocked them.

DOJ weighs charging Chauvin for 2017 incident involving Black teen
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/crime/doj-weighs-charging-chauvin-for-2
017-incident-involving-black-teen-source/ar-BB1fYGCE?ocid=msedgdhp

The videos, from Sept. 4, 2017, allegedly showed Chauvin striking a Black teenager in the head so hard that the boy needed stitches, then allegedly holding the boy down with his knee for nearly 17 minutes, and allegedly ignoring complaints from the boy that he couldn't breathe.

"Those videos show a far more violent and forceful treatment of this child than Chauvin describes in his report" of the incident, one of the state prosecutors, Matthew Frank, wrote in a court filing at the time.

Now, the U.S. Justice Department may do something that state prosecutors never did: charge Chauvin for the 2017 incident.

Two months ago, federal prosecutors in Minneapolis brought witnesses before a federal grand jury to provide testimony related to the incident, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reported at the time. And this week, a source informed of the probe told ABC News that the investigation is still underway, with the Justice Department still weighing whether to bring federal charges against Chauvin for both the 2017 incident and George Floyd's death.

So I want to get back to this for a bit. I haven't really been following this, but I recently read that the prosecution charged Chauvin with two counts of murder AND manslaughter, all for the same event. And the jury found him guilty of all three!

On the face of it, that seems ludicrous. The difference between murder and manslaughter is intention. You can't kill someone both intentionally AND unintentionally.

Just from a layperson's POV, I don't think Chauvin intended to kill anyone. He was using an approved hold. But the hold is only meant to be used while handcuffing, not on a cuffed suspect. Especially not one in distress. There are many points at which Chauvin SHOULD have taken his knee off, but he didn't. My guess is he'd done that many times b4 and so he was careless and maybe callous and grossly mishandled the situation, but death was not the intended outcome.

So I wonder what the jury was thinking, and why they convicted someone of two mutually exclusive crimes.

Or maybe they're as stupid as THUGR, TWITCHY, REAVERBOT, and SECONDRATE? Or maybe they were intimidated by the prospect of mob violence?

They aren't stupid. They were TERRIFIED at what would happen to them and their families if they didn't walk away from that building giving a guilty verdict for all charges.

But you bring up a good point.

An appeal is happening 100%, no doubt.

But now not only can they use Maxine's and Biden*'s rhetoric during the case against the verdict, but the very nature of the verdict itself.

The question "why" will now be asked. Why did they find him guilty on two mutually exclusive charges?

There is only one answer to that question, and it's probably what ultimately sets a martyr free.

Roaming Charges: The Eyes of Derek Chauvin
https://www.counterpunch.org/2021/04/23/roaming-charges-the-eyes-of-de
rek-chauvin
/

Derek Chauvin never lost control. He wasn’t the officer who arrested George Floyd on a petty complaint about a fake $20 bill. He wasn’t the officer who pulled his gun and screamed profanities at an obviously frightened, non-threatening man. He didn’t place the cuffs on so tightly they cut into the wrists and slowed the blood flow to Floyd’s hands. Chauvin didn’t shove Floyd into the cramped backseat of the police cruiser, ignoring his anxiety about being trapped in such a confined space. Chauvin didn’t brutally hurl Floyd to the street. Chauvin didn’t lose his cool. He didn’t raise his voice. He remained calm, as he got on top of Floyd, jammed his knee into his throat, and pinned his body to the pavement, pressing it down, squeezing the veins and arteries shut. He didn’t allow himself to be distracted as the crowd shouted at him, as Floyd’s lungs writhed for breath, as the EMTs searched for a pulse, finding none. As he released his knee from Floyd’s lifeless body, his expression didn’t change. He remained in control.

Isn’t that the scariest part? It is for me. Derek Chauvin didn’t act on impulse. He didn’t act out of fear. He didn’t act out of anger or in response to a threat against his own life. He didn’t make a split-second decision. He didn’t let his emotions get the better of him.

Derek Chauvin was in control. That’s why the other officers didn’t intervene. He wasn’t acting out of line. He wasn’t ranting. He wasn’t verbally taunting Floyd. He wasn’t beating him. He wasn’t letting any of the chaotic circumstances get under his skin. He was steady, just keeping the pressure on, minute after minute, calmly responding to Floyd’s frantic plea that he couldn’t breathe by saying with not even the faintest edge to his voice: “Then stop talking, stop yelling. It takes heck of a lot of oxygen to talk.” That’s what cold-blooded murder looks and sounds like. It’s methodical. It’s clinical. It’s emotionally detached.

So the question is: was Derek Chauvin born this way or was this learned behavior. Was he born to kill or trained to? All of those latter-day eugenicists proclaiming the existent of a “violence” gene would do well to scrutinize his DNA profile. But in a sense it hardly matters. Derek Chauvin was the kind of police officer America wanted. One who didn’t get distracted. One who had a method and followed it. One who didn’t get ruffled. One who wasn’t impetuous or boisterous or overtly racist. One who didn’t lose his cool One stayed in control.

Now they want to wash their hands of him and his methods. Now they want to say he was a rogue cop, a rule-breaker, a bad officer, a sadist, a vigilante. They can cut him adrift, lock him up, isolate him. But they can’t wipe away the truth. Derek was one of them. He was no rookie. He had roamed the streets for 19 years. He was a known quantity. If the police didn’t create Derek Chauvin, they recruited him, rewarded his methods, admired his calm demeanor, placed him in control.

I return one more time to the fatal footage. I pause the video and scan his face, looking for something, anything that might explain how he could do what he did. But when you gaze into the eyes of Derek Chauvin, as he squeezes the last breath out of a human being under his total control, you see nothing. And that nothingness looks right back at you.

No, this is not "cold blooded murder", ya boob. Emotional control is how police are SUPPOSED to act.

Do you WANT police to be acting out of panic, or anger, or hyped- up adrenaline?

I'm pretty sure Chauvin did not intend for Floyd to die. He fucked up.

Do you seriously expect us to believe that cops shot 1000-6000 ppl in the past year?

C'mon, when police are acting under a microscope, this wouldn't have escaped notice!

Nah, what REALLY escapes notice is black-on-black, and black-on-everyone-else crime. Because, yanno, blacks are automatically victims of "the system" which means that their crimes are automatically excused.

So sayeth BLM/Antifa.

So, do you seriously expect us to believe that cops killed an additional 1000-6000 people last year?

NOPE, not engaging in "whataboutism": That would be you!

No, I'm actually questioning the basis of the charges and conviction of Chauvin.

Aside from "mind reading" -and doing a piss-poor job of it - and name calling, do you have anything to say?

They convicted him of second degree murder, which doesn't require intent.

That's why I think there needs to be a 'bright line' policy about putting people prone or restraining them physically AFTER they're handcuffed. There's been too much 'whatever they felt they needed to do at the time' allowance made, based on unexamined assumptions.

He was convicted of 3, but I don't think they're mutually exclusive. This might be an example of "throwing the book at him".

Given how vague it seems 'use of force' policies are, though, I think Chauvin acted within policy.

I ALSO think that there's an assumption that for a person to be deemed 'complaint', they need to not be speaking, or moving, AT ALL. And that seemed to be what Cauvin was acting out of, which I think a LOT of cops act out of. I can see how - if a person is unrestrained - one might be concerned that any movement might be them reaching for a weapon. But AFTER they're in cuffs? I truly think there are just too many assumptions in the whole 'use of force' topic, and another one of them is 'compliance'.

https://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/Second+degree+murder
second degree murder n. a non-premeditated killing, resulting from an assault in which death of the victim was a distinct possibility. Second degree murder is different from First Degree Murder which is a premeditated, intentional killing, or results from a vicious crime such as arson, rape, or armed robbery.

2nd degree murder is intentional but not premeditated .

So, for example, road rage. Some guy cuts you off dangerously, you see red, force him off to the side of the road, grab a tire iron and fully intend to beat him to death.

Heat of passion.

I know different states have different statutory definitions of murder, but by and large (I looked up the diff between murder and manslaughter) murder is intentional, further subdivided between premeditated and not, and manslaughter is unintentional.
https://www.dictionary.com/e/manslaughter-vs-murder/
So unless Minnesota's laws are very strange, you can't be convicted of murder of of 1st or 2nd degree, and manslaughter at the same time. (Minnesota is one of a few states that recognizes third degree murder, which usually means murder in the commission of a felony crime.)

There is probably a problem with "use of force" in policing. Some forces, and some cops, require complete and total submission. Doesn't work when dealing with someone high, crazy, sick, or intellectually impaired.

To get back to Chauvin: in order to convict of murder, you have to believe that he intended to kill Floyd. And then you need to drop the manslaughter charge, bc the two are mutually exclusive.

Oh, OK - our definitions seem to differ. But I didn't spend much time on mine, so yours is probably more complete.

Anyway, I think there needs to be some bright-line policies about use of force/ prone positioning AFTER handcuffs (spit hoods) are on. They would protect both the person in custody as well as the police. I think when policies are vague, that makes for shifting interpretations depending on the whims of the moment: in the field, in public opinion, and in the courtroom.

Let's not forget that dude was bigger than Michael Clarke Duncan and the cop was about 60% of his body weight.

We'd be having a much different conversation if Floyd was Snoop Dogg.

This is an unpopular verdict...

https://www.ipsos.com/en-us/americans-trust-law-enforcement-desire-pro
tect-law-and-order-rise

(This, coming from a polling firm which is skewed heavily to the left and was regularly an outlier showing much lower ratings for Trump's approval than the average in the aggregate... so the numbers are likely even worse for the outcome of the trial.)

Quote:

For example, now, far fewer Americans personally believe George Floyd was murdered (36%) compared to last summer (60%). Though slightly more believe it was an accident (8%, up from 3%), much of this shift has been to respondents saying they don’t know. Currently, 17% say they don’t know how to characterize Floyd’s death, up from 4% in June.

36% think it was murder. That leaves between 1 and 2 out of 5 Democrats even believing that Floyd wasn't murdered... On a poll done by a polling firm that regularly polls more Democrats than Republicans and Independents combined.

Between that, the Legacy Media not shutting the fuck up about it, Maxine and Biden* not shutting the fuck up about it, and a weird outcome where he was charged guilty both of premeditated murder AND manslaughter, it won't be long until he appeals and is acquitted of all charges.
