After my mom had been fleeced of enough money to make her cry when I told her to stop payment immediately and never deal with these scammers again, I've developed quite an interest in scambaiting youtube channels and have even taken time out of my own day to waste as much of these people's time through email and phone calls as is entertaining to me.

It's interesting watching how the trends change, and how they bounce from one scam to the next, and how quickly they have to abandon the old business model (at least for a time) when the scam in particular that they were using makes some brief cameo on the Legacy Media "news" before they forget about it and it slips down everyone's memory hole.

I know we have some pre-elderly posters on this board, and everyone knows some old people who either aren't technically savvy or are in some stage or another of losing their marbles.

This is a $20+ Billion dollar industry, with offices rented out around the world to scam people in Western nations. Our government and the governments of the world either aren't willing or aren't able to do anything about this problem that is only growing, so it's on us to protect ourselves and the people we care about.

Educate yourself. Talk to people you know about these scams.

Nobody is giving you anything for free, and nobody from any of your bank or credit cards or the IRS or any other government organization is going to call you out of the blue and ask you for sensitive personal information over the phone, or request this information via e-mail.

The one thing my grandma (who has lost her short term memory on most days) always says whenever I bring it up is that if anybody calls her about anything financial that she tells them to send her a letter in the mail and won't take no for an answer.

She's always been a smart cookie though, and I assume that's what she used to do before her mind started getting away from her.

But she's easy not to worry about because she prides herself in the fact that she's never once used the internet and will not ever use it before she meets her maker.

Here's one tip I use all the time myself.

DON'T EVER GO TO A WEBSITE YOU'RE FAMILIAR WITH FROM A LINK IN AN EMAIL.

I mean like never. I get emails from my bank and Amazon all the time that come from the trusted senders list that I'm 100% sure are legitimate and take me exactly where the button is saying that it will.

But if I see something in an email that I want to check out, I still open a new browser tab and type in the address direct and login from there.

It's a good habit to get into. It doesn't take much time and it could end up saving your life savings one day.
