Jesus titty-f***ing Christ!

Ghoulman's a canuke?! Hell on earth.

If you're Canadian, or any other country for that matter, SHUT THE HELL UP about the election process in the USA. Don't look down at us. Take that nose down a bit. And for Pete's sake, stop posting conspiracy theories! Or are you afraid of all us war-mongering Republicans declaring war on you guys, eh? I mean, it's not like you've got oil to plunder, so what are you worried about?!

Ye gads...I mean really.

I'm just saying it's bad enough having to deal with all this go se from within our own nation. I just don't think you have a right to look down upon us from your high horses (Ghoulman) if you're not even a citizen.

And Micheal Moore is a dual citizen. Not helping your case.

Canadians have just as much right to voice an opinion and be concerned with what this country does, they are our neighbors and what happens here effects them too..

stop with the isolation, its not all about America, there are others in the world with opinions that matter!!..at this point I would say more so, because at this point I'd say a good portion of the world is alot more intelligent them we are!!

And piratejenny, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, sure but how exactly is anything happening in the U.S. affecting Canada at the moment? If anyone can give me a good answer (because I honestly don't know) then I won't say anything else on this matter.

Hi JenDandy,

As the only superpower in the world loads of things that the USA does affect the rest of the world. If America did not interact with the rest of the world then it would not concern us but all countries do and the US being such a large power means it has more affect than most. Whether that be good things like trading with the rest of the world or providing support in disaster areas or bad things like polluting the atmosphere or in some people's opinions invading other countries.

I'm not saying that the rest of the world should be able to vote but as it is something that affects us then it is something that the rest of the world are likely to have an opinion on.

Plus obviously loads of browncoats are in the US and, whatever it may seem like, the rest of the world does care about you guys.

As a Brit I hope that you guys will all show an interest in our elections early next year

With respect.........

People, no matter their country, race, or religion, should be free to voice an opinion on whatever they want, whenever they want.

The reverse is also very true. They should be free to disagree with any opinions expressed.

Please don't flame people because they express a simple opinion. Flame them if they are rude, or ignorant about it, sure... but not simply for the act of free expression.

This is called freedom of speech. A tenant I though the US was very much into protecting. Or does is apply to only Americans?

Now... that being said... Canadians, myself among them, have enough problems with our own gorram political system that you'd think it would keep us too busy bitchin' to make comment on any one else's screwed up political issues.

BTW... TheGreyJedi... we actually do have quite a bit of oil up here. Ever hear of the Alberta Oil Sands & the Hibernia oil fields? Not that it would most likely ever happen, but it would probably only take the combined military might of Rhode Island to take them... LOL... have you seen our joke of a military?

Oh, I don't know, maybe it's cause the U.S. Canada's biggest trading partner and Canada is the U.S.'s biggest trading partner.

That could be how the U.S. election can affect Canada.

The fact that you don't know that means maybe YOU shouldn't be talking about the U.S. election.

And now that I know Canada has both oil and diamonds, oh. It's on! First act as Emperor of America is to forcefully colonize Canada! Then Britain and Austrailia. IN all seriousness, CSSStrowbridge, the main reason why people don't know as much about Canada as you guys seem to know about us, is you guys are generally quiet. I am reactionary and venomous. I really have nothing against Canada. We have this HUGE unguarded border because you guys are so cool. You gave us hockey, and you have better beer. You've got clean cities, low crime, beautiful country-sides. You're the Ned Flanders to our Homer Simpson. Long suffering and always willing to help.

Near as I can tell, the only thing you've got going against you is Quebec and guys like Ghoulman.

So yay Canada, our ever-suffering, always helpful and kind neighbor to the north. May you always be our friend, no matter how ignorant and loud we Americans can get. Just...lay off the election stuff, ok? It's kind of a sore subject right now. It feels like we've got this big gash where we fell of a motorcycle doing 90 miles an hour and this guy who doesn't even like motorcycles keeps poking at the wound, telling us how bad motorcycles are. It hurts, man. So leave it be for a while, would ya?

TheGreyJedi, it's ludicrous to say that someone shouldn't express an opinion just because they don't live in this country. Many of your recent posts have basically been to tell people not to post if they disagree with you.

There have been numerous times that I have found the tone of Ghoulman's posts to be offensive. But, I believe his heart is in the right place, and that he is mostly trying to increase awareness. You mostly just come across as a bully.

In all seriousness, and by a wide margin: YOU ARE MORE OFFENSIVE THAN GHOULMAN.

Haven't said a gorram thing about the election in this thread sweetie. And even if I had, I think I have just as much a right to be heard as any Canadian. I may not know who the U.S. trades with the most but I knew what the candidates stood for, I watched the debates, etc. so saying I shouldn't talk about my own election is bullsh*t.

I just grow weary of all the conspiracy theories and bashing of the U.S. by everyone. I hear it enough from the people who actually live there and now every other country is chiming in. Whatever part is true of what they say (and who's to tell? everyone's a liar these days), I just get tired of hearing about it...in this board and in every other gorram one I belong to, NONE of which are about politics in the first place. Ahh well...

Micheal Moore. US Citizen, Candian Citizen.

Disclaimer: I remember being told that he was an honorary Canadian, not a "real" Canadian. This was by someone correcting my information, as I thought he was a "real" Canadian. However, since it was given as an "honor" to Mr. Moore, I count it as dual citizenship. If this information is incorrect, please feel free to point to the correct information. However, I will still think Micheal Moore is a fat blow-hard who uses film as a political tool not for information or entertainment.

Well I'm alright with the fact that you are totally against free speech, since I do think you have to right of free speech to say that, but did you have to make fun of us Canadians saying "eh"? I mean that's one big cliche I find annoying, since it's uncreative and always used. That's really all I had a problem with.

Something interesting about the Canadian Election Law...

See, according to Part 11, Division 9, section 331 ( http://laws.justice.gc.ca/en/E-2.01/14580.html#section-331 ) of the Canada Elections Act:

Quote:

No person who does not reside in Canada shall, during an election period, in any way induce electors to vote or refrain from voting [*] for a particular candidate unless the person is

1. a Canadian citizen; or
2. a permanent resident within the meaning of subsection 2(1) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.

According to Part 19, section 500 (3) ( http://laws.justice.gc.ca/en/E-2.01/15701.html#section-500 ) of the same Act:

Quote:

3. Every person who is guilty of an offence under any of subsections 484(2), 486(2), 495(3) and 497(2) is liable on summary conviction to a fine of not more than $2,000 or to imprisonment for a term of not more than six months, or to both.

So, apparently, in a June 19, 2004 screening of F9-11 in Toronto. MM attended the opening and declared to the audience to "Not vote conservative" and "I really need you to make sure that Mr. Harper does not take over". Meaning to suade Canadians to not vote for Harper to the Prime Minister position.

When it was found that Elections Canada was going to actually bring charges to MM. Sarnia’s Mayor Mike Bradley, who had a brief spot in Bowling for Columbine, declared he is "willing to declare Michael Moore a citizen of Sarnia, Ontario therefore making him a de-facto Canadian".

Ok... I remember that now (I think I may have purposely blocked it from my mind ). As has already been explained, it was honourary and I don't think it was ever actually done. It was only a response to a Conservative Party MP's call to charge Moore under the Elections Canada Act (as explained by JasonZZZ). As far as I've heard though, Elections Canada did nothing about it.
Even if they had tried to charge him, I don't think an honourary citizenship would have done anything (especially if it was bestowed by a mayor who likely doesn't have that authority in the first place).

Tash, Maniac. . .I feel I must take some small amount of responsibility for TheGreyJedi. He is my padouin learner at this time, but he's not even completed the 'charming to women' stage of his training yet. . .although he is proving to be an adept learner in this area. . .and I've not yet gotten to the part of tight-lipped tolerance in the face of opinions that drive you nuts.

Now. . .I can certainly see where Grey would be a bit irked at non US Citizens speaking about our election as if they were directly ripped off. What I'm seeing here, to use an analogy, is someone complaining about how much TGI Friday's Jack Daniels Ribs totally suck and are a waste of money when they've NEVER EATEN THERE. They may be right. . .but only by dumb luck of the guess. . .or because they heard someone else say they suck. . .but, because I fight for the freedom of ALL people, I clench my jaw and say through my teeth, "Really? I'm sorry you feel that way."

I will most certainly chastise my young student for behaving as a troll and promise to get to the 'nettequite' portion of his training as soon as possible.

Oh, by the way Tash. . .I take your words as highest praise. Thank you.

No.

And man, you guys got to keep guns just in case the king of England invades.

I guess every country has its weird laws. I would *guess* that it's there to make sure that Canadians have the right to discuss amongst ourselves and not to allow others to force us into doing something.

I really don't think that the Mayor has any power to make MM a citizen. I would think that that would be up to immigration Canada. Probably something he said just to put on the record how mad that this would be if it happened.

Then again, this is all news to me. I'll have to do some poking when I have the time.

Just like WE should shut up about their elections. The only thing I'll say about the Aussie election is that they chose well in John Howard.

^^ At the risk of starting an entirely new argument, there were (abd probably still are) a lot of people in Australia angry that Howard was re-elected. And in the lead up to the election a lot of people were angry due to the insinuations and comments the US ambassador was making, about things like should Latham (and the Labour Party) win the election then there would have to be reevaluations of the deals Australia and the US had on the table, ie the FTA.

"No man is an island" - the same goes for countries. Everything they do affects their allies, and their trading partners, and their enemies in some way. Elections rank among the most important things a country does, so why are you so surprised that America's allies, let alone it's neighbour have something to say about it? As someone said above, America is the superpower of the moment - America's decisions and actions have far-reaching effects, right across the globe.

BTW, if you have the right to voice your opinion that Australia "chose well in John Howard", then Australians (and by extension, other countries) have the right to express their opinions about the re-election of Bush...

'Yes... this is a fertile land, and we will thrive. We will rule over all this land, and we will call it... "this land".' 'I think we should call it your grave.' 'Ah! Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!'

BTW, if you have the right to voice your opinion that Australia "chose well in John Howard", then Australians (and by extension, other countries) have the right to express their opinions about the re-election of Bush...

I guess by "a lot" you mean not enough to vote Howard out of office.

Of course you can express your opinions (re: American Election) Just as I can express my opinions (re: BLOW IT OUT YOUR ARSE)

Not really much you can say or do to spoil my mood.

Frankly, I think those nations who despise us should be honest about it and stop all trade and sever relations. Go ahead and bugger off if we're so terrible. I'm sorry...what's that? You still want our exports, technology, grain subsidies, financial aid and military protection AND STILL pinch your nose in disgust as you do? My goodness...you must be from OLD Europe or a canuck nyuk nyuk.

George Walker Bush, 2nd Term, Day 3...and many more days to come.
