I first found some Minnesota Browncoats on Meetup.com, but they're being run by a super leftwing moonbat manhater, so I'm wondering if there are any Browncoats in Minnesota that realize the show was pointing out how retarded Big Government can be, especially in regards to the prevelance of the left-wing dogma thought police that believe they can make people better by making them less aggressive. I don't hold to that and I'm hoping there are others in my area that don't either. Would be glad to meet up at the Source in St. Paul with like-minded folks.

Email's on the site.

I don't know about meetup.com but MN Firefly has grown into a thriving forum. We do support and run the Can't Stop The Serenity event at Riverview Theater, I hazard a guess that might make us manhater's according to some people's views.

We're also running a Serenity party room at CONvergence in July. Not sure if that qualifies as non-moonbatty.

If you're looking for MN fans talking about government parallels, see this thread http://www.mnfirefly.com/portal/html/modules.php?name=Forums&file=view
topic&t=103

We're all just folk.

Sound's like a bunch of thought police to me. "Accept our perversity, so we don't feel guilty" and all that.

CONs are not moonbatty, it's the leftard dogma that gets spewed at them sometimes that irritates me. My hubby and I attended a gathering for Chinese New Year, and I was having a blast with the gamers, when my hubby came and asked me if we could leave. Seems that he was conversationally accosted by someone who had a dislike for gamers and conservatives. We haven't gone to any more gatherings since.

I realize not all of them were wingnuts, but when the person in charge takes such a perverse and abusive stand, I'm more likely to stay away than bother to waste my time in an argument. I'm looking for like-minded folks, people who just want to enjoy the show rather than use it to feature a political agenda.

Women are perverse?

"I'm looking for like-minded folks, people who just want to enjoy the show rather than use it to feature a political agenda"

Except that you began this thread by saying the show advances YOUR political agenda.

You can't have it both ways.

I do not run the Minnesota Browncoats but I am the person who put the group and the shindig notice up on meetup.com.

I am saddened to hear that you had a bad time. I am also surprised to hear about your concerns a good 5 months after the shindig occurred. Have you been harboring your pain for all this time? What caused you to bring the event on this forum now?

Does your husband remember whom he talked to? Was it I? Don't remember having a political discussion (I am usually apolitical myself) but the event was a long time ago.

Perhaps we could talk about what upset your husband so much that he felt he had to leave. If you both are willing to do that, I bet that we can work this out.

May I email you about this topic to discuss it further? If you agree, please be technically patient with me. This is the first time I ever posted here. I am usually a lurker. Thanks, Snow

I should have read closer... I am a gamer (although I was not playing that evening) so that reduces the chance that it was me.

Anyway, please write me or extend permission so that I might write you.

Thanks again, Snow

Women who obsess about how they achieve climax to the point of centering their life around it are perverse and probably mentally unstable.

I can say what I want, it's a free country and I can ask however I want to find like-minded people, just like there can be a manhater group with their sigil online asking for people who lean their direction. If I don't plainly state "I'm not interested in hanging out with obsessive left-wingers" then they might get their feelings hurt if an argument arises.

Another thing; I'm didn't start this thread to hear whining and griping about my opinions. If you don't like them, don't read them.

LOL! there's no pain. We just left.

Per my statement above. I would like to have a group that doesn't support "causes", just a meet-up with folks like to have fun talking about Firefly. If I mention my leanings it's because I wouldn't be appreciative having someone show up to fling rhetoric.

He said it was a couple of women in the basement. He was watching "Our Mrs. Reynolds" on the bigscreen and someone just started laying into gamers,(I was upstairs gaming at the time) He said they quieted down when he mentioned *he* was a gamer. Then he said this gray haired lady started in on Bill Oreilly as if it had anything to do with the show. He felt uncomfortable enough in the atmosphere that he knew our best bet was to leave.

Per above, we don't hang where dogma gets spewed. Feel free to email me but I don't see our views changing.

Nice! All civil-like. I realize you're trying to meet like-minded people, but there's really no reason for this kind of posting.

You miss my point. I don't have an issue with you seeing the show from a certain perspective, nor an issue with you wanting to find similar people.

The point was that you can't start a thread saying "the show is about my politics" and then several posts later say you just want to find people who enjoy the show without using it to further their politics.

By all means, seek out people with like-minded politics who like the show. I never once said that was a bad or misguided thing.

It's just that some of us are capable of doing eexactly that same thing without attacking people on the other side of the political issue. It's YOU who seem incapable of letting everyone do their own thing when it comes to the show.

To quote Capt. Reynolds: "Your decision to get techy, say we're late, means you're lookin to put us on the defensive right up front, which means something went wrong. Didn't go wrong on our end so why don't we start again by you telling us what's up."

From your answer, I don't think you are here looking for like-minded people. I think that you are here to bad mouth some people whom you did not have the social skill to interact with. This is evidenced by your name-calling attack 5 months later under on a national message board.

If someone says something that you don't like... you do not have to interact with him or her. The world has great variety - you do not have to like that fact but you do need to manage yourself within this diversity. I feel that Firefly does a good job of illustrating that lesson in almost every episode.

There were somewhere around 30 people at that party when it got into full swing. There was a concert, a haiku contest, singing, great food (some of it by a pro chef), gaming and much more.

You yourself said "I was having a blast with the gamers." That gang is a blast... it is a pity that you did not take the chance to know them. They are writing their own game AND their humor is second to none.

It sounds like you two ran out the door before you made any effort to see if you could make any real connection with people who were not that white-haired woman.

So here is my suggestion: There is already a Firefly meet-up group in St. Paul that is not associated with MNFirefly.com. I have not connected with them so I don't know what their events are like. If their event turn out is low, why not join in and help? Their next event is Saturday, Jun 2, 2007, 2:00 PM.

http://firefly.meetup.com/234/?gj=sj6

I will also suggest you make some efforts to raise your emotional intelligence. Check out: Emotional Intelligence: Why It Can Matter More Than IQ by Daniel Goleman. He just released a new addition of this classic. Though it you might understand how the characters on Serenity can still work effectively, enjoy each other and even live together without being "like-minded." Plus, how you can do that too.

LOL! Thanks anyway! You can suggest all you want, but I'm not the kind that needs "self improvement materials" or "life lesson planners" to get a good hold on my perspective. Your concern was sweet though, and I'll tip my very fine hat to you.

Here let me Durbanize myself with, I'm saddened if my point of view hurt ya'll's feelings and now we move on. Plainly, I don't hang out with left wingers as I have no patience for useless people.

If lack of time I took to mention my shindig experience hurt your feelings, well, I don't get to post often and just recently found this site.
I don't think the clearly posted agenda on the Mn Firefly site was a good match for my personality, thus the advert for right thinking Firefly fans only. And that's about as excuse-y as I need to get.

I'm not gonna sit here and justify my thinking to any other posts as I'm fair and certain ain't none of us is gonna change the others' minds. 'KAY? If you're interested in discussing Firefly in a non-agendized non-left fashion, would be glad to arrange a sit down.

Durbinize, huh?

"Durbinize, verb.

1. To make, either explicitly or implicitly, a moral, political, or factual equivalence between two situations which in reality have little or nothing in common. (After U. S. Senator Richard Durbin (D, ILL) who compared the alleged abusive treatment of a terrorist detainee held at Guantanamo Bay with the depraved horrors of the Nazis, Soviet gulags, and Pol Pot’s mass murders, thereby equating the U. S. personnel with these murderous despots.)

2. To apparently apologize without actually doing so by subtly placing the blame for legitimate objections to the actions of definition 1 on the objectors. This may be accomplished by expressing disappointment that the objectors have “misunderstood” the speaker’s remarks or by stating the speaker’s sorrow that feelings were hurt. In reality, the speaker is implying that the objectors are too stupid to understand plain English or are insufficiently educated or mature to accept the speaker’s remarks as truth."

When you put it that way, I am relieved that you are in no way connected to the MN crew.

I said it nice and gentle before but I should have realized that you don't understand nice and gentle. So now I will be blunt (although you might not get that either)... GROW UP.

There is no need to run screaming from the shindig because someone gives the stink-eye to a political figure you like. There is also no need to go on a national message board and slime people you do not know. Thicken your skin then "just say no" to revenge.

Now run along and write your Rush Limbaugh/Bill O'Reilly slash.

LOL! Well SOMEBODY needs a thick skin, that's fair certain. Did you get your thought police badge directly from the University of Minnesota or did you order it on line?

Hmmm, I can't recall that we ran screaming, being the wise, undramatic, and mature people we are, we just left, rather than to take up the argument bait that was offered to start a rukus and spoil an nice event. I even left an unopened french silk chocolate Marie Calendar's pie as a parting gift. I guess if I have to sad about something, it'd be the loss of the chocolate. Oh well, selah...

...and Rush/Bill slash? C'mon, nobody's that depraved...at least I hope nobody's that depraved \shudders/

Yikes, this is really an whiny/uptight crowd for being so "liberal". Weird.

I guess my thinking is that there aren't enough right-winger Firefly fans in MN with free time to reply; they're too busy working, trying to pay their taxes, mortgages...you know doing responsible stuff. Yes, I am feeling a bit of the wastrel hanging here now that I know which way the wind blows...kinda fruity and flowery...

Ah well there's always the fan fic...

Don't worry, I'll stay registered. If I let ya'll stew in your delusions unconvicted, you might just convince yourselves that the guilt isn't real
