Hello Browncoats,

I stumbled upon this today:

It is a Firefly themed paintball scenario game in Hudson, Wisconson at Splat Tag paintball field. If you haven't been to a scenario game or even if you haven't played paintball before and the location is within your range this might be the event for you. It is an 8 hour, 800 player, bring your own paint, event. No need for camping and going without a shower :smile:! There will be two teams, Browncoats and Alliance (you can chose either team), but I wouldn't be surprised if they wrote in some Reavers somehow. The event happens on July 20, 2008 so anybody in the area has plenty of time to prepare and assemble squads of friends to share the trenches with (while freshly showered).

Pre-registration is $30 and registration at the event is $35. Field paint, if you don't bring your own, is $50 (don't know what brand). HPA and CO2 refills are incluced in the registration fee. Do yourself a favor and preregister!

The event IS A CHARITY EVENT for the Minnesota Military Families Foundation. Don't know what your politics are and I don't give a damn but I urge you to support charities like these because the strain on military families can be overwhelming at times. I personally know lots of people that appreciate things like this.

I can't make it because Wisconson is a little too far for me. Too bad. I would have loved to bring my Autococker VF-T.

If you don't have your own equipment the field has rentals but I don't know how many. If I were you I would Preregister and reserve a rental package as early as possible. If you'd like your own equipment you can go to amazon.com or a number of paintball retailers and pick up everything you need for $200. $200 bucks can buy you a good paintball marker/gun (like a Tippman or Spyder), a CO2 tank, mask, a hopper (usually not a good one though), a harness with pods, barrel cover, and a barrel squeegie. Plus you have a new addiction to nurse :biggrin:!

Never visited the field myself but the layout shown in the map looks really good for a game like this with a staging area for both teams that has water, paint, and air refills.

Sounds like a lot fun. If only I knew where I'll be in July I'd say I'm in.

The charity sounds like a great cause and having family members and a few friends who either were in the military or are currently I know the strain it can cause. Helping other's in need shouldn't depend on a political view.

Anyway, I've not done a lot of paintball myself but if I can see myself being able to participate I'll make a solid effort to get there. It's only a couple states over.

Hmmm I have never paint balled before, although I do know my friends who do always have welts on them. So I guess it's best not to get hit.

I live about 10 minutes from this place, so I may just have to check it out!

I highly recommend scenario games to the casual rec ball player. New experiences are cool especially when you can add an element if interest. Hope it's a good time for all. What's better is that is a benefit for people who could use a little support.

Web Dog Radio: WDR was a project undertaken by Rob "Tyger" Rubin. Rob has been playing paintball for a long time and has 5 lifetimes of knowledge about it. He made these videos to be distributed for free to benefit anybody interested in learning about paintball. Splat Magazine: Never have been a fan of the publication (too much pandering to 15 year old boys with bikkini clad T&A) but they do have a few good articles online regarding scenario games.

WARPIG: WARPIG (World And Regional Paintball Information Guide) is the oldest and still most extensive online resource for paintball. Most paintball websites give it a good go for three months to a year then fall apart. This one has withstood the test of time with exclusive content and frequent updates. After checking out the Scenario FAQ on the link listed below, look around. (ignore that bit about $90 cases of paint...I have NEVER seen that!)

PGi: Here is more wisdom from Rob Rubin. The article is hosted on P8ntballer.com which is my favorite paintball website despite infrequent updates. So definitely look around if you have time. It is run by Paintball Games International which extends it's coverage to other countries...something which other mags don't do so well.

PbNation.com: ugh...I hesitated linking to this site. A poster on PbNation said it best in his sig:
