WHAT IS THIS I DON'T EVEN....what's all this I'm hearing about the D*C Shindig getting scrapped this year?!?! Have they or have they not seen how huge it was for the past three or four? And if this is not just an unsubstantiated rumour, I say we go out there, find out where to get in contact with the organisers and swear by our pretty floral bonnets we will end them if they don't change their minds!!!!

I would not get too bent out of shape about it. There is a LOT to do on Saturday nights at Dragon*Con.

And isn't "we will end them" a bit harsh?

Perhaps SEBC can't make it this year? That would be sad.

Nope they will be there. I think the Shindig organizers just needed a break this year that's all.

Here's the official word via LiveJournal:

"....though last year we had the awesome support of Browncoats: Redemption, and paying for it out of my own pocket with little or no help (and most times passive hindrance) from D*C, yeah, I needed a break. I was also told that there was a strong possibility that the Whedonverse track would be pursuing a different theme party this year. With that information and our incredible run, we figured it was a good time for me to step aside and let another portion of the Whedonverse fandom have the glory."

"The Shindig is a massive effort and I did not get the same opportunities to pull together all the groups usually involved this year that I normally do. The decision not to host the Shindig was entirely mine as I did not want it to suffer in quality due to the lack or normal attention it usually gets. All of us that plan it (SEBC/Whedon Track) exhaust ourselves to pull it off and <<>> is correct when she stated that could really use a break from organizing it this year but I already plan to put as much effort as possible to host it next year."

....yeah, now I feel like a great all-American douchebag.

It's OK. I understand your frustration. Just imagine for one minute what it's like to organize, plan and implement this event and then ad 31 more hours of programming to it. It has it's challenges and rewards but at the end of the day every ounce of effort makes us a tighter knit and shiny group of people.

I know who the <<>> person is that Steamer is talking about. She is awesome. A lot of the peeps that were there to help set up in 2006(?)-2009 weren't at D*C last year. MalsWay and I couldn't make the setup and Shindig last year, either.

We all step in it on occasion.

I'm Gary from The Browncoats rock band. We were really hoping to premiere our new video for our remake of the theme this year, as we premiered the song last year. But oh well, there's always next year. The video is a tribute to D*C Browncoats and to touring Cons in general.

Lookin forward to seeing everyone and just hangin out, especially with our buds the Bedlam Bards!

Everyone be cool, there will be more years of Shindig for sure!
