I have arrived safely, and spent a wonderful day by the pool.

Thanks again for the card thing Rel. I put it to "The beautiful miss glau" just like the last one, in the hope that will help her remember who I am.

And....

http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=2&t=13278

Is there any chance someone could record this for moi?

I just mean the cast interviews, not the eps...oh, and the nathan on gmtv thing if its at all possible...

please, someone help me!

Adios!

Fun was had. Met Ryan and Hilary, which was nice Paraded around in my Team Random T-shirt and shiny browncoat. Saw Summer twice

And... I got a coup.

A friend rang me to tell me the Arts+Books section of The Telegraph had an article on Summer Glau. In fact, it's front page had her on it, and there was a two page spread on Serenity and Summer right near the beginning.

Summer didn't know about it, and was surprised to see it!

She signed it with "Wow! It's me!!"

Matt,
I decided to go in the end on Saturday and chatted to Summer about you (and Olly) and told her you were sorry that you would miss her. She totally remembers you and said she looks forward to seeing you again. Oh yeah and my DVD recorder has got all the cast interviews etc from Firefly Weekend and the Film 2005 slot. I just have to remember to record Nathan and Summer on GMTV and TRL tomorrow now!

Ok, I have some desperate questions for you all and I'm sitting in an internet cafe which is eating my money so... please, pretty please could anyone help me with the following ?

How much could I expect to spend on merchandise if I'm limiting myself to photos etc. to get signed?

Is it easy to make friends considering I am very much a wallflower who knows no one in the fandom as of yet

Also, I would be more than happy to dress up (I was quite looking forward to the idea) but considering I might have to spend upwards of £550 to go to serenity2, I am not really in a position to spend on costumes. So... do most people dress up or is it ok not to?

Thanks for any help. I am sick at the thought of NOT going but on the 22nd I'm going on a 38 hour flight down under. I'm trying to talk myself out of going but, well ... it's SERENITY2 !!! How can I not??

Hi Phi,

In with the cost of your ticket is "One Personal Item (per guest) signed for FREE" so you could get your convention programme signed or anything else you have that is official such as the comics or the dvd set. Its if you want them to sign one of the glossy A4 pics that starfury provide that it will cost you £10 (i think) per autograph.

the professional photos taken are £15 each per guest - i usually just get one or two pics.

everyone is very friendly and i made friends easily when i went last time.

it is fine not to dress up - not everyone does. i usually just wear a cowboy hat of its cowboy night. i think i will struggle with the party themes this time, dont worry about it.

hope this helps

Sarah

ok, so Phi, you know what, its so easy to make friends at cons, just start talking, someone will listen, or stick with us, we are friendly types.

you dont have to dress up, some do, some dont, its all a matter of choice.

and its no secret that cons are expensive, just set yourself a limit, and try to stick to it. its hard though. but something you will figure out how to do once your there.

Rel, nice pics, could summer be any more pretty

I got Adam to sign a group shot at LFACC with the intention of getting more sigs at Serenity2. However, my understanding is that you can get only get "official" photos (ie with a logo type thingy on them) signed there - so even though the photos from LFACC are obviously legit, don't assume you'll be able to get them signed. Just a warning - it will be my first Starfury con so am still figuring a lot of things out!

Right, suppose I better get dressed for this premiere thing....

Carol, have a lovely time at the wedding. Speak to you soon.

Hi Phi! Nice to meet you.
You can always do what I do and not bother with photos and autographs - saves an awful lot of time and money

Everyone is friendly, if you are too nervous to approach people then generally any 'lost' looking people get adopted fairly quickly.

You could always make a t-shirt saying 'con virgin' and then everyone would come up to you to help you out. A couple of my Dutch friends did that at Serenity and they met all sorts of weird and wonderful people.

Plus, of course, this thread are meeting up so there are always the randomites to join!

How is everybody else? alive and well i hope?

Yes, I'm here, and okay now I've had my coffee. Mmm, working brain = good.

I successfully defeated a pizza and garlic bread pizza thing last night. I'm surprised I could walk afterwards... but it was veeery tasty.

There's lots of intertesting stuff in the Serenity RPG... cool background type stuff aplenty!

Lots of people I know are going to see Serenity over the weekend... and two of us will be dragging my boss out to see it on Monday. By then I'll have seen it three times my own self, I reckon. Heh.

I don't know if my boots have arrived yet. Dammit.

Looking forward to seeing Johnathon Ross' review on Film 2005.

Apparently

Select to view spoiler:

the acoustic Firefly theme from the end of the movie credits

is not on the soundtrack CD. I'm a little tetchy about that.

Has Nathan been on GMTV yet? How soon will we be able to see vids online of it?

...

Am I missing anything?

Oh yes, how is everyone? All well? Everyone seen the BDM that can? What did you think?

How's everyone's Serenity² preparations going? I still need to figure out hiring a tux.

Yeah, I found some kinda online rental site that delivers and picks up what you hire from them. I can get fully kitted for about £60, if I remember correctly.

All I need to do is get measured (fnar fnar) and work out if I can get it delivered to/picked up from where I work.

Have you gone the slinky or kinky (corset) route, Em? And have we actually conviced Fray to get with the programme yet?

I think I am going with slinky, I have half a dozen options but with the kinky I would have to buy something because my shape has changed and I don't fit into my kinky anymore (the traumas!).

I don't suppose God is mentioned in any of Alan's films is he/she/it? I was thinking of doing an Oz for the Saturday night because 3 nights in heels would kill me.

I don't know about Hilary, we should ask. Hilary, are you dressing up?

Ooh, Emma! You saw Greek! How's he doing? I miss him being on THIS side of the pond. I have no one to play with when I get bored at work.

He's not being tooooo naughty is he?

So, you're all going to the premiere this weekend? I'm hoping to go see it again (I've seen it 3 times so far now) if I can wrangle up some browncoats within an hour radius of where I live. I know there are at least 2, I just haven't met any of them yet.

Guess what, all? I'm very excited. I did a podcast interview at Dragon*Con for The Signal and they released a special Dragon*Con episode (or whatever it's called) and I'm on it!! I didn't say anything earth shattering, but neither did I sound like a babbling idiot. It's very exciting and you can find it on their website, apparently. www.serenityfirefly.com, I think. I posted the link in tag a bit ago so CosmicFugitive could find it.

Anyway, I'm getting to be a bit well-known around here. It's a bit disconcerting. And exciting.

If there's going to be martini drinking, have one for me!

Hey everyone!

For TWG:
My Ninja Monkeys are on a mission to steal the worlds Chocolate and Vodka supplies and bring them back here to us! Mine is an evil laugh, now drink, Muwhahaha!

Not been the best day ever.
Spilt water on my laptop and it went fizztt...
and then Rusty, my new snake, bit me.

Oh so Rusty is a real snake then! I thought he was just something made up like the ninja monkeys. Wait. They arn't real right? Ninja monkeys definately go on the list of things to be scared of, along with Daddy Long-Legs, Spiders and snakes that bite.

So I've picked up my tickets from my old house and they are safly packed away in my filing system so I don't loose them. I really feel like I'm going now and it's very exciting.

I finally found out the places where Serenity is on in London on Sunday so I'm headed up there to Hammersmith with my Mum! I really really can't wait!

I'm off now to watch Lost. Too much excitment, I don't think I can take it!

So you really have a snake, then? I wasn't sure if you were serious.

What kind of snake is it? And if you have to feed it mice and whatnot-DON'T EVER TELL ME ABOUT IT.

But other than that-snake! Cool! I'm sorry it bit you.

And I'm sorry you're having a bad day. *hugs* I've been having a bad week, so let's be miserable together. Large chocolate sundae? *hands one to Sean*

Is your laptop fixable? *hopes so*

TWG-I need an update on you. How's things? Did you see our pictures? Now we need Hilary to photoshop you in them and we can tell everyone about how you were there and how you drank the last of the Hypnotic so we threw pillows and toblerone at you.

Hypnotic is crazy stuff.

Yep, Rusty is a real four foot long california Cornsnake. I only fed him a couple of days ago, and he's in a new enviroment, so he's not in the best of moods at the moment.

Laptop, not sure, think its dead as dead can be, but its still under the extra three year warranty that includes accidental damage so I should be able to get it replaced/fixed.

And thanks for the sundae, just what I needed

Hi Emma!

Nice to meet you too! I think I might opt for the lost, bemused and dazed expression. I doubt that that would be too hard for me to pull off.

There are so many from this board going that it will probably be a task NOT to find you all.

I did the same thing as you Fray, I bought a group pic off one of the stands and got Adam to sign it. There's a whole lot of space just waiting to be signed! I hope it's legit.

So... the BDM isn't quite breaking all the records we wanted. But remember: this is a special weekend.

It's the very important "second weekend" in the US.

It's the opening weekend here in the UK.

So together we need to keep the profile raised and the box office figures high, despite the not unexpected slump over the last week and the really quite poor "other famous people" turnout at the UK premiere. We're still getting excellent reviews for the BDM, so it's not a failure.

In other news... I think my "Joss Whedon Is My Master Now" T-Shirt has arrived at home! So I'll be able to watch it tomorrow when I go see the movie!

And when I see it again on Saturday... and with some people (one of whom will have already seen it) on Monday.

No sign of my Team Random mug yet, as far as I know.

I've worked out that I can be held responsible for about 16 people going to see Serenity. I'm very proud

Emma-I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask you to return my Greek! Or, if you must kidnap him and keep him in a cupboard, let him have a laptop so he can email me. That's all I ask.
I'm glad you've been having a good time!

Sean: I must ask: what inspired you to purchase a grumpy 4 foot long california corn snake? I'm just curious. How's the bite? You gonna live? And have you found out about your laptop yet? Are they gonna replace it?

A friend of mine in uni did that. She spilled a Dr. Pepper on her laptop and completely fried the whole thing. She'd only had it a month or so, too. But it was covered under her warrenty and she got a brand new one for free.

Today's Thursday! Isn't the premiere tomorrow for you all? Excitement! I have to try to go see the movie at least twice this weekend. Not sure how to go about that, yet, seeing as the nearest theater's a good 45 minute drive. But I will because I must because I want a sequel.

But still-it exploded! That is so FUNNY!

Ah, seen it again.

Just as good. Better, even, now I've got more brain spare to divert my attention 'tween more than one part of the screen at once.

Just as brilliant, just as funny, just as scary, just as tense, just as sad, just as tragic as the first time.

Mind you, it was on one of the smaller (smallest maybe?) screens at Derby's UCI, it was about a third full at best, and there were no posters for Serenity anywhere that I could see in the whole place. Bit rubbish, really.

No one even commented on my browncoat, or my Joss Whedon T-shirt!

We'll see how Chesterfield's Cineworld does tomorrow, and how Basingstoke's Vue treats the BDM on Monday.

Where in the spector o' hell are y'all?!

Out watchin' the Big Damn Movie I hope!

I saw it again today... it still catches me with it's marvelousness, it's emotion.

I walked into Chesterfield's cinema today, and the girl at the counter smiled as I approached and asked for my ticket.

"I would've thought you were going to see 'Price And Prejudice' with a T-shirt like that," she said to me.

I looked down at my chest, where the words 'Joss Whedon Is My Master Now' were emblazoned in white on black.

"You'd have thought so," I replied, "wouldn't you?"

And I keep spotting new tidbits of interestingness like...

Select to view spoiler:

...when River says "He didn't lie down. They never lie down" about the reaver that got on Serenity. As in him being one of the tenth of a percent that didn't lie down and sleep and die on Miranda.

I really liked that when I noticed it.

Then there's...

Select to view spoiler:

...River's comment in the locker: "Show me off like a dog, old men covered in blood - it never touched them, but they're drowning in it." I never realised she was talking about the 'key members of parliament' who had been to see them.

I like clever things.

Im home, but gosh have I been busy. Ive been to see the BDM 5 times now, and thats going to be six in a few hours. Im also going tommorrow, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday too!

Been taking lots of people!

Last night, I went to see it with some friends from the con up at the Vue cinema in Leicester Square, and in the queue outside, we got about 15 people to change their minds and go and see Serenity! Its a lot easier when theres a group of you, then your not just one crazy person!

And the cinema was almost packed, and it was a big one too! And they all laughed so hard too! And there was a resident gasp followed by silence at you-know-what.

Well, don't know about everyone else but I left the cinema in a state of catatonic shock.

I'm currently in the Channel Islands so the very first screening was at 4 pm on a friday. Needless to say, the cinema was quiet. Some might go so far as to say positively echoey.

There were four other people in the cinema (oh god how I miss the huge screens of England) which made it a little embarrassing when I was the only one to whimper over loudly at certain parts.

Still, I will be single handedly boosting the cinema attendance record for the island in the next few days.

Now, down to my Q; What sort of guest talks are there?? Does anyone have a sort of itinerary on what is being said when? What else goes on during the days?

I have got to seriously get my act together, i haven't booked ANYTHING because I'm still on the fence about going.

I have got to seriously get my act together, i haven't booked ANYTHING because I'm still on the fence about going.

Answers: Guest talks are indiviudal, pair and group. The matching depends on the number of guests, the confidence of the guests and the dynamic between the guests (and to a point, the characters). The itinerary isn't fully decided until very late. There is often a rough idea a few weeks before but this is never finalised until closer to the time and very often this changes at the last minute as guests pull out and others take their place.

During the day there are signings and photos. On top of this there is the dealers room. Of course you can always stay in bed so you have more energy for the parties, or make friends with all the people loitering around the bar. You can also volunteer as a steward which is great if you have never been to a con before but can be a bit dull if you do it more than once. (Opinion only, some people love stewarding and do it every time - good for them but not for me.)

Hurry up and book!

Is this why you've been ignoring my emails, even though I sent you exclusive Summer goodies?! It's OK, it doesn't hurt at all....

Congrats to Emma for getting the thread back on track! Sadly I fear it may be too late and that the randomness will already have scared people away (again!). Maybe a non Team Random person should try starting a Convention thread so as to avoid any confusion! Not long at all now

Yes, not long at all! And I'm doing something very unexpected (for me) the Tuesday after... hmmm...

But anyways: WOO!

Movie!

More movie!

Yet MORE movie!

Convention!

Team Random mug!

...

Where in the sphinctor of hell are my boots?

Need to get my poster up on the wall...

Need to get measured for the tux...

Waiting for other stuff for the con to appear...

I might take my action figures out of their packages sometime.

Reading the novel right now... it's not bad, really!

How's everyone else? Everything sorted for the con? Everyone still got their rooms booked? Costumes all worked out? All ready to be giddy in the presence of the BDH's agin?

I'm here Rel! And I've got a bad case of the Mondays so I could use as much randomness and vodka filled chocolates I can get!

I can't wait to see pictures! Guys in tuxes, girls in slinky dresses! How I wish I could join you all.

'Allo.

Hollyday here in the US, so having a quiet time of it. Tomorrow my wife goes back to work after two weeks off; I don't envy her having to get back into the swing of things.

Team Random mugs are ueber-shiny! We use them often and they're our new favorites.

Talked a couple more people into seeing the BDM this past weekend; total virgins to the 'verse, and they loved it immensely. I can't explain why the box office take isn't better, except the world is populated by backbirths who don't know good from dreck, and the human herd needs serious culling. I volunteer to do some of the work.

I hope your convention is at least double the good times you hope for!

No hollydaying for me. "(

But I did get to go out for lunch and got white pizza-yum!

Good for you for bringing more people. I wish I could drag some people to the theaters! Oy, it's frustrating.

Need help culling the herd?

I wonder if we've got any chocolate stashed around here anywhere.

Where are the ninja monkeys when you need them?

I actually burned eight more hours of accumulated vacation time in order to get today off. After a year of taking hardly any vacations I've had a goodly bit put by, even after that week in Florida. Anne works for a bank so she had it off as a matter of course.

BDM on DVD in time for Xmas? Sounds shiny! Gonna be a bit late for sending as gifts, though.

I envision this: A queue of ninja monkeys--nay, a veritable processional. They bear a large throne; seated thereupon is a life-sized chocolate effigy of--you guessed it--Alan. Upon closer inspection it would be learned he's actually hollow and filled with a vodka-based syrup.

Whadya think: Too over the top?

No! Not over the top. Perched right on the very apex, right where it should be!

Bring on the throne-bearing Ninja Monkeys and their vodka syrup filled life sized Chocolate Alan!

Hello everyone!!
Gosh it's good to be back after such a long break. Have been trying to get this blasted internet set up in my flat, enrolling in new courses and sorting out society business.
Oh yeah... and there was some movie that came out and more or less crashed the FFF server for a week and a half.

But yay! As in chocolate-covered ninja monkeys kind of YAY! Seen the BDM three times now (once a few weeks back at that final advanced screening in Glasgow, and twice over this here past weekend). Good times all around! Serenity is only playing in one of the small screens at our local (quite fittingly) independent cinema, and it only seats about 150. But it's been sold-out for every screening since Friday, and I've been able to convice lots of wavering cinema-goers to see Serenity after missing their intended Oliver Twist or W & G.
Also (finally) met fellow uni Browncoats, so hopefully we'll host lots of shindigs throughout the year. OH! And was able to somewhat convert an anti-Whedonite Alien-fanatic, who felt bitter and twisted about him apparently ruining the franchise with the script for Alien:Res.

*plonks himself down into a comfortable chair* Weekend over. Mission accomplished.

Anyway, back to randomness! Hope you are all well, and that your absence is Serenity-related.

I do have a question though before I depart and get some well-earned sleep:
Which do you think would make a more lasting impression at S2: Black-tie kilt attire, or my pair of Mongolian wrestling pants?
(serious answers and/or suggestions only in haiku form please)
