they obviously didn't get the memo about too many antibiotics equalling no good thing, doctors here do their absolute best not to give them to you.

(when they do, wow, thats good shit, I had an abcessed tooth recently and the list of things you could not do was a mile long, - drive, operate heavy machinery, drink and the like- just when i'd planned to take a six pack and the JCB on a road trip dammit.)

we keep having all of these superbug scares, not to mention chicken flu, so I think they're actuallly stock piling them somewhere...

Fred & Ginger are seahorses.

I forgot that one of my nicknames used to be Ginger.

I good friend and I moved to Florida together and people would get us confused (like Rosencrantz and Guildenstern!) and so one guy just started calling us Maryanne and Ginger and it stuck. I was Ginger.

Can't sleep, up late and very tired so excuse the rambling.

Anti-biotic abuse in your section of town bad it's got nothing on China. There they force it on you for everything: food poisining, fever, hiccups, trick knee, angina. That country is serously turning itself into the petri dish from which the drug resistant plague will emerge that will wipe out earth that was. Go figure how everyone in FF 'verse still talks chinese though. The other factor is everyoneis using anti bacterial soap for everything. That stuff is fine if you are a surgeon, but to use every day is too much, and what happens to anti bacterial soap after we're done with it? It becomes extremely diluted and goes down the drain to greet a whole slew of bacteria into Die Hard bacteria.

LMD: You always have been hardcore. We never mentioned it, because it's so obvious. You never hear anyone say something like:
When the sky is clear it's always blue.

I'm pretty sure you can get blue gloves at any medical supply store. Someone had a box of them at Dragon*Con. Are you really giving blue gloves as a Christmas present?

I bought a pair of blue knit gloves (and a matching hat) that matched a scarf I knit and I didn't think a thing about the colour until the first time I put them on. I looked at my hands I just couldn't stop laughing.

If you really wish it worked that well in real life there's a thing in the SCA called a cloven fruit party that can be played year round and is potentailly a lot more fun, but I'm not sure you want to hear about that. So far I haven't had many questions about the SCA.

Well let me just say that they are not innocent yet they are not terribly depraved either. it'sa friendly game played between consenting adults, (accent on consenting, no most certainly means no.) in a public place so the clothes stay on, however..., Mistletoe is somewhat limited and it's played with only two. This for larger groups and it has a bit more depth and posibilities than mistletoe.

When I was in marching band in high school we used to play this stupid game on the bus to away games. It was called Suck Blow and all you needed was a deck of cards. You'd take a card and hold it up to your mouth and suck (so that it'd stay there) and then you'd pass it to a member of the opposite sex, and it's pass around the bus. You were supposed to make it look like you were kissing without actually kissing. And then there'd always be the guy who'd slip the card away and kiss you unexpectedly or try to grab you in inappropriate places. Or they'd work a hole in the card and you'd get a tongue in your mouth. Stupid stuff like that.

Now I look back and think it was just a great way to spread germs.

Spin the bottle was more fun anyway.

Cloven fruit is a little more serious, in that no one is pretending they aren't kissing. Spin the bottle, I never invited to play that, I was awkward all the way through my teens. I didn't get into "the game" till I was in my twenties.

*Cough* I can explain the cloven fruit thing. In fact the only serious relationship I've been in was started with a cloven fruit at my first SCA event. No one had bothered to explain to me what they were so I had no clue what to do when someone offered one towards me. When I explained what someone had just tried to hand me to my friends, they informed me that I had to go back. With lots of appologizing for my ignorance......
See (from what I understand, there may be more) You take a fruit (orange, apple) and a jar of Cloves (found in your local spice aisle) and you stick the cloves into the fruit (make a nice pattern). You now have a cloven fruit. Offer this fruit to someone, Their options (which I didn't know at the time) are simple, Pluck a clove out of the fruit with their hand, and you kiss their hand. Pluck a clove out with their teeth, Kiss them on the mouth. There may be other options, but we won't go there. Looking confused and saying "ummmm...no thank you" is a really bad idea and may result in a large group of Knights coming to defend someones honour.

Yes there is SCA in Canada. Go to the mainsite and find your kingdom and through your kingdom find your closest contact.

www.sca.org

Okay person A offers the fruit to person B saying: "I choose you what do you want to do about it?"
Person B has multiple options
1) Taking the clove out by hand and holding it: "lets be friends and keep this low key" a hug, or a kiss on the hand is the expected option.
2) Taking the clove out by hand and putting it in the mouth "okay you can kiss me, but be cool."
a reasonably chaste kiss is in order.
3) Taking the clove out with the teeth and keeping it inside your mouth "hey you! come here and get this thing out of my mouth." Deep kissing with a purpose ensues.
4) Biting the fruit. "Let's blow this party and find a tent!" Person A and Person B go somewhere private.

After you get a fruit and are done with the person that gave it to you you then have to find yet another person to give it to. Passing a fruit back and forth between two people is a no no after all you're both consenting adults if you just want to kiss this person you need only ask.

If someone ever offers you a fruit with only one clove left in it, then it means that person has chosen you to be the whole purpose for them being at that party and is offering to cook you breakfast after you wake up together.

There's more stuff, but that's the basics.

Jadehand has got the idea. Take the

I knew there was more, details were fuzzy. It's been a decade after all, And since I was involved a bit after the first thing, there were no other cloven fruits for me that year. I also left SCA after the relationship ended. I remember the single clove fruit thing now. Fun with fruit....

JADEHAND

Well the point was, there's a whole bowl of 'em. Feel free to take one and offer it to whomever you like. I'm not sure anyone would be interested in taking a fruit from me. Though from what I know of the ladies here, I'd be honoured to offer one to each of you. I'll just take an apple with 6 cloves in it, and stand here by the door with the fruit proffered. That way anyone who's interested may approach and partake.

*thinks it highly inappropriate to offer a banana with only 1 clove*

ok,SR how about , take clove out with hand, places in mouth, (seeing as if you can't be flirtatious in cyberspace, whats the point?)

Jadehand, yes, the banana is inapropriate, but the apple should see you in good stead.

Let me just see to this first...

oh go on, seeing as i made you wait you can be a little less sedate than that.

But we really need to get everyone into the fun with fruit corner - this one takes an awful long time to load,

'sides, there a fresh batch of O J's waiting, and I made more trail mix, this time with those mini marshmallows and chocolate covered honeycomb (I fear its the sweet variety) bits, mmmmmmmmmm....
