For the Des Moines area group-- Century sounds fine to me, but what time would be best to see the movie Friday night? Also-- were we still thinking about doing some kind of "shindig" before or after the showing?

The wife and I are all for exra activities. We were hoping for a line type party before at the theater, maybe something after. We will have other people with us, though I don't know just how many yet. The reason I asked about the Chinese restaurant was because a bunch of people got chinese at the sneak preview line party which was a really fun idea/tribute to the asian influences in Firefly. We were planning on getting chinese ourselves that night at least. We are open to ideas, just let us know. Less than two weeks!!! Woo Hoo! We will be out of town for the next week, but will try to check out whatever develops here. Take care all and hope to see lots of faces on the 30th.

Since it's less than a week until the BDM arrives, I thought I'd bump the thread.

My friends and I are leaving Pella around 3:30-3:45, so we'll get to Des Moines at about 4:30. Maybe earlier. I'll have to check, but I think we'd all be up for Chinese beforehand, or an afterparty at a restaurant or something would be great!

I've called Century, and though nobody's there yet, I left a message asking if Serenity will DEFINITELY be there, and they should get back to me in about a day. Otherwise, I'll be in Des Moines tomorrow, and I can ask there.

Also? My River costume (from "Safe") is finished! It looks humongous on me, but that's perfectly okay. I just need a wig now.

So-after hours of stalking the Fandango/Century website, I finally found what seems to be the showtimes: 5:00/ 7:45/ 10:30. It looks like they are only having one theater play it. Very disappointing. Anyway, what time works best for all who are planning to come? Do you want to meet there before, or stay after? Also, does anyone think it would actaully be necessary to buy tickets before hand? How many people can we possibly expect...

My friends and I would probably prefer to go to the 7:45 movie. We get out of school at 3:30. And I think it'd be more of the "movie-going experience" to not buy ahead of time. I don't think there'll be a million people there for the premiere, outside of us Browncoats.

I think that the 7:45 showing would be best for me and my friends as well if we're able to make it. Our plans are kind of up in the air right now, but we're still going to try our best to show!

7:45 works for us as well, shall we make it official? There is actually some pretty good asian style food at the food court. Although we may go for an actual chinese restaurant before hand as well.

Bumping the thread to keep us up to date. Are we calling it the 7:45 for sure? Just need to know to coordinate with those coming with me. Looks like more than I thought. Which is good for all of us. See ya in 4!!!

Bump... It looks like 7:45 is final, unless that doesn't work with anyone's plans, so speak up now. Just to clarify, are we meeting there before the showing, and if so, at what time? 3 days... 3 days...

Well, I am running with the 7:45 showing. I would still like to get folks together sooner at the theater if they were so inclined. As it stands, we could be there at least an hour before hand. Possibly earlier if there is something going on for sure. Everybody feel free to jump in here to let us know what works. 3 Days!!!

I know that I'm going against the group with this, but my posse of 10 friends are going to be attending the 10:30 show at the Century (in West Des Moines). We'll be dining at PF Chang's around 8, for some on-theme Amerasian cuisine, and then heading over the theater. Some of my friends couldn't make the 7:45, so we opted for that later. I don't expect anyone else to change plans, but if there are lurkers out there looking for Browncoat company at the late show, here's saying that you will not be alone. :)

Oh, and I've offered extra credit to my students to see it and write a response to certain literary qualities it may or may not have. If I link it directly to class topics, is it still immoral? I may be going to the Special Hell for this one, but if it helps get us a sequel, I'm ready for the firey gates!

LOL! I suppose if Dolores Umbridge is your school's Vice Principal, you might have things rough in this life, but I tend to think most folk are headed for Purgatory. I reckon as how good teachers, competent parents, and tech support people all start out there with massive time off for having spent their lives fighin' the good fight.

More seriously, you're sharing something healthy which you love, with impressionable adolescents. That's what good teachers are supposed to do! Keep flyin'!

Friday's 1st matinee in Cedar Rapids:
Anyone interested in going to the 1:30pm showing at the Carmike Wynnsong 12 on Edgewood Rd?

Possibly we could meet earlier for a leisurely lunch shindig. There's plenty of affordable places nearby, including a nice Chinese food restaurant.

Here's Friday's showtimes:

bump

We're meeting up for pizza before going to see 'Serenity' at the Carmike Wynnsong (1:30 pm matinee)
anyone else coming?

I hear that 'Serenity' is in fewer than 900 theaters, so we do need to make these count.

Of course I'll confess that I'm NOT just going to make the box office better...
I'm going because I LOVE the BDM and I'm excited to meet up with some fellow Browncoats.

Count me in.

There were a few anxious hours earlier this week when we thought the Carmike's had dropped Serenity, but our movie is too pretty to die! She still needs some help, so don't be shy about joining us all.

It's ok to turn up a little later, if you're anxious about spending so much time with real-world strangers.

Sadly, that Pizza Hut doesn't have a buffet on Saturdays, so we won't be able to question the buffet table.

Eerily enough, on Iowa Public TV's "Market to Market" tonight, they had a short segment that touched on strawberry cultivation. I'm viewing that as a sign. Besides, we all know Joss is fond of "cornfed Iowa farmboys".

We're still (weakly) holding in Iowa!

The following theaters are are still showing our BDM for another week:
"Carmike Southridge 12" in Des Moines
"Carmike 7" in Cedar Rapids

Feel free to add to that list.

I've just convinced a 'verse virgin friend to see it with me in Cedar Rapids on Sunday. Just in time, 'cause it's been almost two weeks since our successful Fairfield Fireflies shindig, and I'm in 'verse deprivation.

Has anyone ever been to the "Carmike 7"? What's it like? This'll be my first visit.

Bad news:
Today is the first day that no theater in Iowa is showing Serenity.

Good news:
Serenity just showed up in the "coming soon" list for Cedar Rapids' fine 2nd run Collins Rd. Theater!
Maybe clicking thru might help a wee bit, so here's the page (it's at the bottom):
http://www.collinsroadtheatres.com/main.html

As you web savvy folks will note, they're novices (much of page's text is invisible in many configurations), so they probably don't check their access logs. Still, it's mighty exciting to "see" our movie on that page.

Sigh... Here in Dubuque Serenity got shunted to the 2nd run theatre really REALLY quickly. I saw it again in the second run theatre back in october. By the first of November it was gone. GONE! While crap like "Bad News Bears" played continuously for months. Sigh.
