Quote: "And then there is that third show, Firefly." This was Whedon's space opera modeled after classic Westerns, which he created for the Fox network, but which was cancelled before all the episodes that had been filmed were telecast. The audience erupted in applause, and Whedon bowed forward and held out his microphone to amplify the response. "I'm such a whore," he said. "I can't tell you how long I've been waiting to hear that." "Firefly has been the most exhilarating and painful journey I've ever taken in quite so short a period of time. I loved that show so much. I loved everybody on it, and everybody who worked on it. And I knew that there was somebody who didn't work at the network who agreed with me! I believe December will be the DVDs. Every single episode, including the ones that never aired, all in widescreen and all with commentary. And I am, in fact, in the process of still struggling, as I have been since the day we were cancelled, to get a Firefly movie made. I have no news except that I have hope and in the next couple of months I will know definitely whether or not we may actually be shooting one within the year." [Editor's Note: yesterday it was announced that Whedon has signed a deal with Universal, and will shoot the Firefly movie in the first quarter of 2004.]
