a few weeks ago I saw this anime on Adultswim
wich is on cartoonetwork after-hours and to my surprise I saw this show called Trigun, the main character said to say I can't remember his name but he reminded me of Alan, the show was placed in the long distant furture and it was based in this hard core criminal with this big bounty in his head but it turned out this so called monster was this good natured, kindhearted, bumbling idot who always got in trouble even if wasn't trying so any way I thought this was so Alan any way I was wondering if any one of you had any ideas if any of the cast would be great playing some good characters in tv these days any suggestions

Ahhh, "Trigun".... one of my three favorite Sci-Fi/Western series....

That would be Vash the Stampede. You should watch that one all the way through if you get a chance. Some would recommend watching the Subtitled version, some the Dubbed version. I recommend both.

I never got into Trigun, though I can't make it more than a few days without watching InuYasha. Alan Tudyk wasn't Vash though. The actor in question is Johnny Bosch, who once played a *gag* Power Ranger, and he's on Witch Hunter Robin, about which I am still undecided.

I do think, and I am unanimous in this, that Gina Torres should do voice acting. Just listen to her in the last scene of OoG.

Trigun is part of a creative pocket phenomenon in manga/anime called "Cowboy Shonen"; strips/shows combining the concepts and themes of science fiction (esp. space opera) and those of westerns; other examples are "Cowboy Bebop" and "Outlaw Star".

In fact, when Firefly first premiered, the best high concept description I could come up with for it was "Live Action Cowboy Shonen, American Style."

This was especially true during Firefly's orignal broadcast run, since, like the fox-mangled sequence, Anime shows often start in the middle of a storyline and work their way out in both directions. Not that this was a deliberate artistic choice (we all know better) but it was an interesting coincedence.

Of course, the idea isn't new, or unique to anime. Just about every science fiction series from Star Trek to The Prisoner to Red Dwarf has done a western story or two.* Hell, at least half the episodes of Battlestar Galactica could qualify...

Yeah, Trigun is a great series! I was kinda surprised that Vash reminded you of Wash though. I suppose I could see that in the beginning episodes, but as the story progresses, you see an entirely different side to Vash that makes him differ from the comical pilot of Serenity.

This is a great sci-fi/western. At first I thought it was just a shoot 'em up, bang-bang type show, but it actually had a good story to it. I'd recommend it to anyone.

I hope you US people appreciate how lucky you are to have Cartoon Network. All I've got is animé magazines, downloaded AMVs, and Nazi-like Canadian Content Laws.

The only one of the shows being discussed here that I can actually watch is InuYasha (best animated series ever --if Joss did animé, this'd be it).

I'd give almost anything to be able to see Witch Hunter Robin, ot Trigun, or Cowboy Bebop. . .

Just get the DVD's online, they're better than the crappy dubs. I can never forgive the Trigun dub for making Wolfwood sound like a stupid bitch.

No money. Specifically, no credit card, thus no on-line ordering.

Could theoretically get the Evangelion movies and/or the Cowboy Bebop movies, but then I'd be stuck without seeing the series that lead up to the movies (and I'm spoilerphobic).

No Cartoon Network!?! Sadness!! Although I wouldn't feel too bad about the Witch Hunter Robin: really pretty, but pretty dumb. The first run just ended last night, and overall I found the whole thing kind of pretentious and painful.

Bebop, on the other hand, is pure, unadulterated television joy. You can't get the DVDs from a comics store somewhere?
