So, now that I'm done dancing on my desk, and attracting the attention of my boss and co-workers...

Firefly is #1!

These charts a touch different than the ones you've seen recently. I dug out & dusted off my archival data, and made charts that show data as far back as I have records for.
All the totals before October of last year are linear because I had to 'average' things between the very few days anyone gave me data for, and when I started keeping track in October.

Just to prove it, I zoomed in a bit...

The Daily and Weekly charts don't pick up until I had daily data (because it'd just be a straight line before then anyway, and who wants to see that? (don't answer, just use your imagination))

And my Daily tracking macro went all wonky in a few places since we're in first place now too.

Friday's Numbers

In honor of this ass-picious occasion, I cheated and pulled Jericho's number from it's last non-top-40 day in so that I could produce a full set of weekly numbers with it included. Because as you'll see, having them in the mix changes the game some.

We need to HOLD THIS GROUND!

FlatTop, I believe there's still a quirk in your daily / weekly graphs. I don't believe that EVERY show spiked like crazy on the exact same day a week or two ago. I'd have noticed (and besides, it'd be in your previous chart).

It kind of looks like the same thing with the "date" axis that happened briefly on the last set of numbers, only the other way around (last time they went abnormally low, this time they went abnormally high).

(Reposted for the sake of interest)

"Yesterday, Browncoats voted 1965 times.

Yesterday, Xenites voted 985 times.

(Xenites voted 980 times less, yesterday).

Firefly is 181 votes ahead of Xena! We did it! Now, we just have to put some space between us and the Xenites.

OUTSTANDING job, Browncoats!

The next goal, aside from stayin' ahead of the understandably annoyed pack of Xenites on our heels, is 370,000 votes. Not far off from that, is 400,000, then, half a million.

Believe it or not, at half our current voting strength, we could get there in about 135 days. If we keep our current totals up, we could hit 500k votes in about 69 days."

We do need to keep the voting on "hard burn," for a while, at least. Angry Reavers in our wake, they catch us, might sew our skins into their leather corsets!

Just a little Haiku:

In the black, no one
Can hear you ululating
Browncoats, watch us soar!

You know, I really need to write some code to handle dates that are insanely far in the future by hand. It's a little silly to keep predicting that Jericho will catch Xena in 1902

That spike might be due to the fact that there was one day (July 22nd) when new numbers weren't posted. So, the next day had twice as many for everyone in the calculations.

Loven all the charts and stats flattop! I guess now you'll have to calculate how far we're getting ahead of the other shows or when we'll reach 400K. Goals people! I say we shoot for getting to a certain percent of the total votes collected. Not sure how to calculate that though. I leave that up to you stat guys. Don't hate FT

Thanks

Only problem is, my lists are generated by a perl script, so what I need is perl code that can give the correct date for an arbitrary number of days in the future. As it is, it breaks down in 2037ish (which is actually a well known date for computer scientists, there are going to be Y2K-like issues all over the place in that year, for reasons that will make no sense unless you understand binary).

If you happen to have perl code to do it, it'd be gratefully accepted :)

Some pretty cool stuff that got lost in the shuffle:

BUFFY got 852 votes today, more than anybody except us and Xena. Angel got 571 which is also significantly higher than usual. Guess Whedon followers of all stripes pulled together yesterday Possibly even some of those votes came from the three abortive posts at whedonesque.

Also, we SMASHED our previous "fastest closure" record with a closure rate of 980.

Better enjoy lookin' at it; after today, I aim that Rich Labonte should be able to retire that banner.

Just make sure those 5 people aren't in the same building (subnet mask technically) as you! TVVote doesn't know if it's really 5 people, or 1 guy with 5 computers, so it assumes cheating and throws out all votes from that location.

Amen. We've just proven that even a lead of tens of thousands of votes isn't safe and we know what the Xenites are capable of. Plus, look at Jericho. There are lots of shows with huge fan bases and all it takes is a few dedicated people to beat the war drums on a few boards before the whole fandom is voting. We need to shoot for a huge lead now...like 100K or something. Even then I won't quit voting. I may tone it down and not vote on every single computer I come in contact with but I won't stop. *SpeedySpotty VUMP!*

Except for Jericho, of all the fandoms, I think Firefly's is still the fastest-growing. And, we do have an awesome lead... For now. On the other hand, Xena's fandom has matured, already. I don't think they're gaining many new Xenites. I suspect they might pull out a coupla good voting days, over the next week or so, but, I also think we are prepared to blunt their counter-attacks.

Then, I expect they'll get discouraged, and, leave us to face the other up-and-comers. Should be very interesting.

Then, I expect they'll get discouraged, and, leave us to face the other up-and-comers. Should be very interesting.

No offense intended RC, really, but were you around in April? Maybe its just the way you phrased a few of your sentences but it sounds like you may have missed the insane voting power that is a long-sinced-matured Xena fanbase.

You got a point there, but one thing that always catches my attention whenever I look at FlatTop's graphs is that if you look at the weekly average graph over the entire 9 months or so he has graphed, there's only been a period of about a month (late Feb to late March, plus a lil bit in April) where Xena's weekly average has been above ours. And even then only by a hundred or so.

By contrast, our weekly average has been above theirs by five hundred or more most of the rest of the time.

They may put up a fight, we may even have to struggle mightily to retain our first place spot. But we ain't beat, and we ain't gonna be

Heheh... Guilty as charged, derangedmilk... I've been lurking these boards for a couple years, never signed up. Then, I saw something on a thread here about Universal HD and their new Firefly site, so, I went there and signed up. ShanYu recruited me over to Skiffy for Wreck or Repair, and, it was there I found out about TV Vote. That was early July.

Now, I've come full circle, joining up here to enrich my TV Vote experience. But, yeah, my perceptions might've been a tad myopic, on the historical side of things. However, SAB39's post, above, illustrates the more limited range of my analysis. I do think we continue to have more and more voters, as more and more new posters appear (with some overlap) on both UHD and Skiffy. I keep the troops on both sites up to date on scores and projections, though nothing as sophisticated or colorful as I find here!

Anyway, no offfense taken, at all! I figure things'll turn out alright, one way or another. I do wonder how well the Xenites communicate...

Keep vumpin,' Browncoats! Those left behind don't wanna stay there!

This isn't pointed at anyone in particular, I'm just sayin' is all, so don't anybody go gettin' yer knickers in a twist.

I've got to agree with DM here. If the Xenites decide to come for us in the next few weeks they'll pass us.

Just think of them as reavers. We ain't got enough of a headstart to outrun 'em yet.
All of February and March pretty well sucked (weekly average lines). That big blue spike in the middle of the third graph (daily votes) is them kickin' us in the teeth on the day we threw up our biggest numbers ever. They got bored, and quit. Us passing by may get 'em riled up a bit.

So Jayne, load up Vera, and bring the grenades. Everyone else re-fuel, re-arm, check your lanes of fire, and make sure the fall back postions are well supplied.

We may experience a bit of turbulence and then explode.

Yeah, but notice something about that big blue spike1?

Their weekly average numbers that week didn't touch ours.

What that means is every one of those that earthshattering recordbreaking number of votes they put in on that day, we made up and more over the next six.

They're a force to be reckoned with alright, but we've done the impossible, and that makes us mighty. I've said it before and I'll keep saying it: WE HOLD!

1 Just imagine I took a picture of Spike and photoshopped it to be large and blue, and mentally insert it here, cos I don't have the time to actually do it

I'm curious, and I don't have the numbers far enough back to investigate this for myself.

There was a date around about Feb 15th where Xena first started getting significantly more votes than us. And then there was a big drop around March 20th when they dropped below us again, and their weekly average stayed below ours from there on out except for one brief bump.

What I'd like are the numbers for those two days so that I can subtract them and see how many votes Xena actually gained on us over that entire month-and-a-bit that they were gettin more than us. I have a feeling that compared to the ground we've made up, it won't hardly seem like nothing...

Those Jericho fans seem to have taken a page out of the Browncoat book. I'm so happy for them that they got their finale.

Haven't done the math yet, but just looking at the totals lines, you are absolutely correct. I think there was only a week or so that our overall average was below their's, and obviously since then, our overall average is much higher.
My point was only that, should they get organized, the Xenites can make things interesting for as long as they stay focussed.

Actually, although the Xenites will be a hazard in the near term, I'm lookin' to the future, and, thinkin' 'bout all those Jericho Rangers.

That's a LOTTA potential voters, and, they're about as fanati... Um, devoted to their show as we are to Firefly. Thing is, I am pretty sure most of their fans don't know 'bout TV Vote. Yet. They have a HUGE, untapped potential. We need to keep a chary eye in their direction, over the next few months. They have every bit as much to prove as we do.

It could be really easy to envy 'em, gettin' their show back, and such, if I didn't respect 'em so much! We need to find a way to make 'em all Browncoats, too. Kindred spirits, and all that.

Oh, and, FLATTOP? Who wears knickers =^[.]~=?
