A while back I was demoing (evaluating) potential new speakers. One of my demo selections was River's bar fight scene in Serenity (I felt that there were a lot of intricate sounds of varying pitch). At one test location I heard two faint but distinct heartbeats during the calm just before she starts bustin' heads. Since I was demoing main channel speakers (not subwoofers), and was trying to focus my attention on the high and mid frequency sounds I had asked that they not use any subwoofer. If I recall correctly I was demoing the Klipsch RF-83s, in theory without a subwoofer (they programmed the settings wrong on another demo, so who knows). I did not think to inquire or investigate further at the time, because I assumed that I just never noticed it at home and would now. I have a pretty good sound system, with a pretty good subwoofer, but have never noticed those heartbeats at home, nor at any other speaker shops with several brands of expensive (and very good) speakers and sometimes subwoofers too.

So, here's my question. Who else has noticed the heartbeats and what speakers and subwoofer(s) (if any) were in use when you heard it?

I see this thread has gotten a lot of reads, but no posts. For anyone interested there is a little more info/activity (and at least two other people that have heard the heart beats) over here:

Don't recall seeing this thread. Did the title change?
have thought I heard her heartbeat, will have to double check. pretty sure i heard it in CSTS, and that theater had crud for sound.

Went back and checked. i think that the sonds i had registered as heartbeats were other sounds at lower volume, which I just categorized as heartbeat-like.

The sound was crud at the Madison CSTS.

Leading up to silence, a building crescendo of reverberation similar to earthquake or helicopter rotor noise (slowed down), and "scary monsters". Then silence, then "Miranda". Then the opening sounds from Lunatic Fringe and the rustling of her smock/gown/covering as it falls to the floor.

I think that at low volume the clothing rustling sounds like faint heartbeats.

If memory serves, the heartbeats were during the silence before "Miranda", and thus would not be the robe sounds. The sound I heard was a very distinct "thump...thump", like a heartbeat in slow motion. I'll see if I can get some confirmation of this on the UniHD forum where some others have heard it.

OK. I didn't know that was where you were talking about. There are several options for audio content, I'll try to check if the different sound options have different sounds at that time.

I heard it too...on my Klipisch/THX speakers, but I also heard it from my regular TV speakers. Its a definite slo-mo "thump, thump."

BTW it is one of the best action sequences on the movie screen since The Matrix. I loves me some River, but that was purely....AWESOME!

Shiny! Let's be bad guys!

Which audio content option are you listening to?
