Since the TV series looks like it's dead in favour of a movie franchise - I was thinking that a way to have our cake and eat it too would be this -

Firefly: The Animated Series.

Then we have our movie over here and a TV show over there.

It would make a kick ass cartoon - although Inara's actual work would have to be fudged somewhat everything else could be mostly kept.

Would you like to see this on Fox Kids? More importantly would Fox Kids like to see it on Fox Kids?

I dont know, personally I think I'd rather see it come back as a spinoff with a different set of characters than an animated show. And I'd never want to see it on Fox.

Dont ask me silly questions.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Not too wild about the animated idea, though I suppose it beats nothing at all. I am not sure that you could "fudge" Inara's work too much, but that could be worked around.

Personally I think Fox Kids would be a horrible fit, and honestly who wants to give any part of Fox another chance to mishandle this great show. I think the Cartoon network might do better w/ such an animated show, perhaps on the adult swim?

Fox! Sure! We could do Firefly meets the Simpsons...Jayne as Bart, Mal as Homer...Lisa as Kaylee?

(please understand, I'm kidding...)

I'd be all for a Firefly animated series if they didn't make it for kids. Does anyone remember that awful Stargate animated series they came out with a while back?

I'm with him. I come across it still once in awhile and basically do this

As long as it was for Adult Swim animation, I'm cool with it. fox doesn't deserve it, but you all pretty much know my feelings about that. Imagine my surprise when I learned this week that fox had renewed "Arrested Development" I haven't watched it, so I don't know the quality, but I couldn't help thinking "they renewed something and it's NOT reality TV?"

Am I bitter...well, yeah!

Yeah animated Stargate was crappy and shortlived.

I only mentioned Fox kids because Fox still own the TV rights - and in terms of "for kids" I was thinking of how well the Starship Troopers spin off worked.

I'm afraid that an animated series in the US would fall along two lines. Saturday morning cartoons like Scoobie Doo, Power Rangers and the like. The plot lines would have to be overly symplistic and light hearted for the kids. Episodes would be typically the caper of the week, someone needs to get rescued, bullets fly, nobody gets hurt and the bad guys get away. Primetime cartoons (Simpsons, Family Guy, etc.) would have to be lighthearted but allow for more adult oriented jokes. Firefly is just way too dark for American television.

There is a place for such animation, however. Japanese Anamie is very popular often allowing for much darker subjects. "Cowboy Bebop" comes to mind. Many of these are a series of 22 to 26 episodes which have a continuous story arc. Once the last episode is over, the story is finished. Popular series such as Cowboy Bebop make it to the big screen and this format allows the animators display the art of their craft. The tv shows (25 min.), the must quickly get to the plot there is precious little time for their artistic prose. Secondly, Cowboy Bebop The Movie should be viewed somewhere in the middle of the series. It doesn't make sense as a continuation of the original story.

Very few Animie series are brought back for multiple years, Sailor Moon being one of them. I would love to see Firefly as an animated series. We have gotten so little of the story that I want to see more. It needs the dark story lines, the linguistic humor that JW is famous for. The linguistic jokes probably would not translate well.

PS. If you enjoy animie there are two additional series that I would recommend. "Witch Hunter Robin". It is about a witch hunter and her name is Robin. Really it has issues about life, death, moral dilemas, personal choice, and destiny. Another excellent series is "The Last Exile." This one has superior anamation and the use of CGI graphics. The story is pretty good too.

We got you partially surrounded.
