I'm off work with flu at the moment, a blessing though as I spent yesterday watching Firefly

I've owned the DVD for months but never got past the first disc

I can't believe Fox cancelled the show - apart from Heart Of Gold it easily one of the best sci-fi series I've seen

There are a couple of things I'm hoping you'll be able to shed some light on (as I'm sure the 2nd series would have expanded on)

The Preacher - what's his story? He obviously not just a Preacher (if he ever was in the first place)

Is the Bounty Hunter from "Objects In Space" the same guy I've seen in the Serenity trailers?

Why did Fox cancel?

Are there any plans to bring it back?

Thank you!!

Hope you get over the 'flu. Hope you don't infect anyone else.

Heart of Gold has the HOTTEST seduction scene every captured on film or tape. "Say hello to your daddy, Jonah. Say goodbye to your daddy, Jonah." is a classic line.

The Shepherd obviously had a past that didn't involve always sitting around meditating.

No. It's not Jubal Early we see in the trailer. The character to whom you refer is known only as 'the operative'.

Fox cancelled the show because there's not a Fox exec who doesn't have their head fully up Paris Hilton's colon.

As for plans to bring it back. Fox owns the TV rights. Uni'Versal is releasing "Serenity" on Sept 30th. We're all hoping for at least a trilogy.

You're welcome. And ... you're welcome.

Welcome

You know your really lucky. Your not going to have to wait years for the movie like we have.

Lot of theories on Book but the only thing that seems to be definate is that hes ex alliance and held some postion of standing/authority.

Early isn't in the movie as far as I'm aware. I would have loved to seem him playing the part of the assian. That character just cracks me up.

All good scifi/alternate shows are being axed in the USA: Firefly, Deadlike Me, Carnivale, Enterprise and a host of others.

Must suck to be a young actor in the US as all the TV acting roles are deminishing as Reality TV and Cop shows take over.

Hey! Glad you got the flu! Hope you're better soon.

You asked, "The Preacher - what's his story? He obviously not just a Preacher (if he ever was in the first place)"

We never got a complete answer on this, and I don't figure we'll get one in Serenity either. You do know about the movie, right? I don't want to assume anything.

Is the Bounty Hunter from "Objects In Space" the same guy I've seen in the Serenity trailers?

It's not Jubal Early. He's called The Operative.

Why did Fox cancel?
Whatever the reason, it's certainly not a good one - definitely not one that makes a lot of sense.

Are there any plans to bring it back?
You do know about the movie, right? Serenity, in theaters this September.

Welcome!

Oh and I agree with you about Heart of Gold. Go back and count the one line wise cracks. Seems to make up about 80% of that episodes dialogue.

Yes I do know about the movie and am looking forward to it.

The Preacher is a great character - a shame to miss out on his back-story

There must be some right idiots running Fox - agree with the comment above re:reality shows

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

There are a lot of theories flying around on just who Book really is or was, but so far Joss has not been kind enough to give us enough clues to fill in the blanks. Sorry.

Nope. The bounty hunter in Objects in Space was Jubal Early (like the Confederate General who by the way is an ancestor of our very own Nathan Fillion). The "Operative" in the BDM (Big Damn Movie) is someone altogether different.

Because they have serious psychological issues? They wouldn't know a hit show if it bit them on the butt?

Seriously though, their "official" reason was due to poor ratings. I think it had more to do with the fact they doomed it from the start w/ the timeslot of death (Fridays at 8pm), they mismanaged the show, showed the series out of order, and they scraped the pilot "Serenity" for a shorter one (Train Job) written in a single weekend.

Sadly, Joss has said it will not return to TV. Seems the man wants to stick w/ movies now.

ANTHONYT

Freedom is Important because People are Important

Hello,

I actually agree that Heart of Gold was one of the weaker episodes.

Things that bothered me:

1) Tightpants afraid of this man? The Cap'n has been in war. He's betrayed mafia lords. He's been tortured. And now he's intimidated by one psycho with a laser gun? Nuh uh. Don't buy it. I only *hope* he was just deeply concerned for the whores' well being.

2) Guns are loud. You would not want an infant on your arm while you're firing one.

3) Shooting people is messy ugly. You would not want any chance of that image burned into an infant's subconscious. Especially if it is later revealed to be the kid's father. Ugh. What a memory to carry around. I hope the kid blocks it out.

4) The water hose seemed like a bad idea to me. Two people out in the open and likely to get shot. Water is a short range weapon. Bodes ill for our BDH.

Things I liked:

1) The plastic shield on the pintle mount to keep shells from falling on the driver.

2) Jayne. He was great throughout.

3) Inara's hypocrisy (sp?) revealed. She was faced with her true feelings and opinions and couldn't deal. Good scenes.

Unfortunately, Fox has locked out the TV rights to Firefly for the next decade or so. Unless they have a major change of heart (ie, get bought off with truckloads of money), that's the earliest we'll see the gang on a weekly basis again.

Or as Jewel Staite put it:

Q: You were saying how Fox doesn't want it to go to any other network or anything like that. How long do they have the rights for umm say...

Jewel: 10 years. >>collective GASP<<

Q: 10 years??

Jewel: 10 years. But, it doesn't say anything about the movies. So, we can do as many movies as we want. You know, I mean we can wait the 10 years, just keep making movies.

Actually, after thinking about it quite a bit, I formed my own conclusion by process of elimination... and then came across an unaired tidbit that completely cemented that belief. I'm now convinced that I know who Book was.

I guess I could fill anyone in who really wants to hear the theory. Then we can all watch Joss take it in a totally different direction after all.
