Hi guys unless someone else can come up with a better name, this was all I could think of - the other thread was getting silly in length and we were getting low down the list!

There is no news though - ya boo sucks

No News ... NO NEWS!

We`ve got 4 guests announced, the hotel is getting booked up & well over 2/3rds of the tickets were gone a couple of weeks ago.

ok so i thought i'd get to work early and check out a few things - about half an hour later i finally worked through the con threads - JEEEZUS

so everyone is v. excited!!!!

i've only really heard about photos and signings from the last con (and thats not my bag)

so what else goes down - as i've never been to anything like this - any discussions or partying??

Not as much discussion as you'd might think though (or at least within my earshot), except of course with the guests.

Is there partying? Ha!

Serenity was my first convention and I came with the usual preconceptions, pretty much all of which were blown out of the water. It probably helps that practically every attendee was rather fabulous.

mwahahahahahahaha

Becs my girl, you sound like a woman after my own heart, first bookmarks now this, I could kiss you in fact I think I will

I too do not do photos or signings - I will make an exception for Joss if he ever goes (I am begging any God which will listen to send him). To be honest, I rarely attend the talks (I managed two at Serenity though - very imrpessive for me) and visit the dealers room only once or twice during the whole thing.

So, you maybe asking, why do I go?

PARTY PARTY PARTY

Here is my usual pattern for a con, give or take a few hours either side:

Friday: arrive at 4ish, catch up with friends at the bar, have dinner with friends, get changed around 9 or 10 and go to the party around 11. PARTY until antime between 3 and 6 am (if 6 I go straight to breakfast)

Saturday and Sunday: Have breakfast, go back to bed, sleep and do nothing until around 1pm, get ready, meet friends eat, drink, chat, laugh, get changed around 9 or 10 and (see Friday)

I don't know what other people think but I always reckon there are two main groups at cons although they obviously overlap considerably:
1) Those that go mainly to see guest talks, gest autographs and generally meet the BDH
2) Those who go to party in an environment totally unlike everything else on Earth where it is safe, non-judgemental, and you can be totally sure that you will have something in common with everyone else there.

I fall into the second category....join me!

I'm a floater!

Or, overlapper!

I met a really nice group of 6 or 7 who invited me to stay with them at the next con, and who seem to know all the Starfury lot. And it'll be nice to see them again.

And hopefully I'll get to talk to more FFN people this time round too.

Oh, and PR, give it about 5 cons and I reckon you will have joined the dark-side. You are such a party-animal!

Baaar.... baaaar....

And anything else I can get to. Talks, if poss, photo ops and signings with those I have yet to get (I've started so I might as well finish) and lots of general milling around and talking to folks.

That's my plan. Such as it is; my plans often make a certain captain's plans look like they are highly successful and always go off without a hitch.

I did do some of that 'dancing' thing. Or something approximating it, at least. Maybe next time I'll be able to manage all of the crazy routines... but I doubt it.

Hello all!

Anyone want to share accomodation at the con?

I was at the first con and really want to do this one, too. I'm a clean non-smoker who, despite some opinions, doesn't snore.

This may well determine my ability to be there, I really need to save costs, if I can.

It's going to be a busy Firefly year - there's the London Meetup in June at Comic Con, the Birmingham shindig at/near the NEC in August, plus (we hope and pray) prescreenings here in the UK, the proper release of the BDM and then the con, w00t !!

Stay shiny....

If we could arrange classes and try and teach them to the guests as well, that would be cool!

Otherwise, lessons in the hotel lobby would be funny

Oooo a new thread! We're really working through them. These previous few posts about partying have proved that if I ever had any doubts about whether I'd get on with you guys, they have well and truly been resigned to oblivion! Partying till 6! I love it. I'm thinking I might be limited as to how late I can party though seeing as I'm not staying in the hotel. You guys will have to try and pursuade my mum to realise that she doesn't need to be in bed by 11! But she is the driver after all!

Seriously I can't wait! It's gonna be great!

well nobody is going to force you to dance, there are so many people to talk to who aren't dancing but really, don't worry about it. Dancing at cons isn't like dancing anywhere else - it is nice and safe and friendly and the best thing is everybody looks happy - it is great!

Plus there are some dances with routines so nobody looks too daft (ok everyone looks ridiculous - but everyone!) and people who don't normally dance often enjoy this.

It does take away from valuable drinking time though...

Absolutely, there's organised dances (very easy to do) and free form dancing. You can dance ironically or like a 5 year old (the best dancers imo, utterly free of self-consciousness). Or you can sit at the numerous tables nearby and watch others dance while drinking with buddies. It's perfect.

The dance floor is a No-Zol. Zone - seriously I don`t have any sense of co-ordination, rythem or anything else that requires a captain to dance.

I can do the bar thing, that`s easy, you pay the man behind the counter, he gives you drinks, you drink said drinks then pay the man behind the bar, he gives you drinks ... etc ... etc ... and at the end of the evening you somehow manage to find your way back to your room or you collapse on the floor trying (actually I`m neer that bad, too much self-awareness.

Sean hasn`t posted anything new about ticket sales or the like, I expect it`s died down a bit since the recent Serenity Con at the end of April/Start of May - but a lot of tickets were sold quite quickly indeed.

And too right about a bump or *Bwah!* to keep Serenity2 from falling

Still, Sean did say tickets would be sent out in mid-June so maybe we'll have something to talk about shortly (although I would have thought he'd be too busy with the con at the end of the month to worry about this...but we'll see!)

I shouldn`t worry about the debit card not been done yet, mine was done the week before the ticket arrived - I think maybe tranasctions are `saved` until there`s a collection of payments (that will keep the costs down as each transaction would cost even though we get charged an extra £3 `booking fee`)

I'm not worried about the debit card - I just find it annoying actually. Would rather they take it straight away, at least I know its gone then.

Well, the interest isn't going to be as much as the extortionate commission credit card/debit card companies charge. £3 does sound about right, even for a mere £75. I've had mine debited from my Visa though.

I suspect Sean will give himself a little time to regroup after Quor'toth and then we'll hear a bit more. Still, at least we have plenty of time to discuss our favourite Bollywood film. Mine is probably... er, well, you know, that one. The one with the singing and the dancing. And colourful costumes.

I've been very quiet on this topic so far..sorry! just not had much to say, which can be considered a good thing.

Anyway, the money was taken from my account over a week ago. I suppose it makes sense that they do it in batches. I must admit to being quite surprised it went so early, but I suppose they need to have a certain amount for deposit and to secure everything. So it's all fine by me I'd forgotten that they'd said the first tickets would be out mid June- I'm getting excited again! (although being cautious because of the other cons)

sooo urm guests...if you could have just one more guest (than those already announced) who would it be and why? (Galactica guests are included as there's still the possibility that one may make an appearance)

darn I've asked a question that I find too hard to answer myself!

I think.........Alan (Tudyk, in case anyone was unaware ), as he was so great at Serenity and had a great dynamic on stage and in the photo shoots with Nathan
(I have a great (test)photo that was supposed to have both Nathan and Alan in, but only has Alan, looking very innocent, because he's just shoved Nathan, who is sprawled on the floor!).

Ok, I am having a gripe because I am fed up!

Why, oh why, oh why can't there be pre-screenings of Serenity in other countries apart from the States? I know that a few of you lucky peeps saw the film in one of its early incarnations but it is pretty much finished now and it is getting increasingly hard to avoid spoilers now that so many people (will) have seen it. I mean another 23 cities and they are all in the States - arrrrrhhhhhhh

At some point I can see myself having to give up with this place entirely

I hate being a subordinate country, grrrrr

Anyway, gripe over I am going to do some work now and maybe eat me some food.

I still remember my burbling to Nathan when I got to have a chat while the camera film was being changed. Once we got past him not knowing where Derbyshire is (he didn't know because, as he said, he wasn't a local boy, eejit that I am, hence 'burbling') we got to have an all too brief chat about miles vs km and metric vs imperial. Gripping.

On the other hand, I was completely lost for anything to say when I encountered Dirk Benedict and Dwight Schultz last year. I just barely managed "ur, hi" and not much more.
