Amazing. Land Of The Dead is the best movie I've seen this year. Here are the reasons why:

-George Romero does not compromise his style to please people. This takes guts. Many great film makers of the past have fallen into the CGI club, it seems to either keep up with the times, or make it easier on themselves. Either way their work has suffered. George Lucas, Spielberg, John Carpentar, Ridley Scott. Once great, currently not so great. Their work today just passes as an average movie going experience. Sadness indeed.

-Land of the Dead was actually atmospheric, creepy, and it looked like the same movie could have been made 20 years ago. Trust me when I say this is a good thing. Horror movies nowdays seriously all feel the same. Blah.

-I love Zombie movies. I really love well crafted Zombie movies.

I'm pretty upset it had a weak turnout at the box office. It pulled in $10.2 million over the weekend. That Dawn of the Dead remake made $30 million opening weekend, and was a pretty crappy movie as far as characters, and story. Does that seem fair to you? It's almost like people are trying to eliminate the last of the great filmmakers. I know there's more true horror fans out there. Why did they ignore Land of the Dead? Waiting for the DVD perhaps.

Spot the Simon Pegg cameo?

I looked for him, unfortunately didn't see him. Only his name in the credits.

He's completely unrecognisable. There's a pic floating round on the internet though. He's hanging in chains.

I wish I could agree, but I found Land of the Dead to be a disappointment. Which is not to say that it's bad, because it's pretty good; I just don't think it compares to the originals.

Not that you're likely to care, but if you (or anyone else) are interested in knowing exactly why I feel this way, you can read my more complete review here:

EDIT: I originally missed Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright's cameo because I had read an interview with George and misunderstood his hint. I was looking for a scene with a phone booth, not a photo booth. Oh well.

Oh, and Savini's cameo was neat, too.

EDIT 2 (Electric Boogaloo): Spaced rocks the casbah.

I'm hoping when the dvd is released,(hopefully this Fall) there will be a special extended version. I've already heard a rumor of a 123 minute cut existing. Around a half hour of extra footage sounds nice. If this does happen, it might feel even closer to the original Romero zombie films. Not that I had a problem with it. In my opinion it was better than Day of the Dead, but many others are kind of luke warm about this one. An extended cut may be just what they need to change their minds from good to great.

I recognized him right away, although my friend told me about it before the movie started. Did you see Edgar Wright? He's the zombie next to him.
