As I'm sure most of us know, Joss was one of the screenwriters of Toy Story. The two main characters of that movie are Woody and Buzz. A cowboy and a spaceman. Hmmm. Could Toy Story have been the acorn which grew into the mighty oak known as Firefly? Maybe I'm reaching, but one of the other characters is a toy dinosaur. I'm just sayin'.

He also wrote Alien Resurrection where the crew of the Betty in that movie resemble very closely that of Firefly.

I remember reading something once that Joss said he had the idea for Firefly in his head since before he ever did Buffy but never could find an outlet for it.

Oh, and play Cantr II at www.cantr.net.

Well, I'm glad he finally found that outlet and that AR wasn't the end of it!

I'm pretty sure his involvement with the final AR script was very limited...

I watched the beggning of "Toy Story" on TV the other day. The scene near the opening where Woody leads a meeting did have shades of "Buffy", esp. the later seasons. Certainly issues of leadership run through a lot of Joss's work.

I don't care if it holds water or not; I think it's a cute idea.

Joss also had a hand in writing Titan:AE, and I see key elements in all his stuff that came out in Firefly. I think FF was a culmination of sorts.

Wow, that was the biggest word I used in a while Chrisisall

Could be. But I never really considered TOY STORY to be a purely Joss thing. In fact, if no one had mentioned it to me, I wouldn't have known that Joss had anything to do with TOY STORY. TOY STORY seems to me a purely Pixar/John Lasseter creation.

And wow! Hey! What's this thing suddenly coming towards me very fast? Very very fast. So big and flat and round, it needs a big wide sounding name like ... ow ... ound ... round ... ground! That's it! That's a good name - ground! I wonder if it will be friends with me?
