Saw this recently...sorry if it's a re-post.

Summer Glau for Kitty Pryde in X3?
Source: CheeseMan June 30, 2005

Writer/director Joss Whedon (the upcoming Wonder Woman) has commented on rumors that his "Firefly" and "Serenity" star Summer Glau is up for the role of Kitty Pryde in X-Men 3, now that "Lost" star Maggie Grace is no longer on board. Whedon posted the following on the "Serenity" official site's message board:

Summer did read for Kitty in X3. I know because she called me and mentioned she was going to and did I know anything about the character (there were no 'sides' to study -- they had to get them when they came in). So the girl I turned into sort of a superhero in my movie was going to read for the character that most influenced ALL my girl-heroes, Kitty Pryde. Karmically funky. Anyhoo, she called me after and said it was very emotional and kind of like when she read for FIREFLY, she just got into a very intense groove. She started telling me about the scene she read and that's when I realized WHY it was kind of like she read for FIREFLY. 'Cause (as you may know) it was a scene I wrote for Astonishing X-Men issue #5. I assume they just didn't have sides ready and used that but this was like a karmic moebius strip, it was just too folded in on itself. In this time of odd, I turned to beer. (No I didn't. Stay in school.)

I don't know what the X-peeps are looking for -- or even if that other girl has really dropped out -- but for my money, Summer would make a wonderful Kitty. (And I don't say that lightly.) As long as it doesn't interfere with SERENITY II: RICARDO MONTALBAN'S STILL PISSED -- or, much more importantly, SERENITY III: SO VERY NUDE.

*silently drools*

Ok, for that I might watch X3.

Even if it does suck as completely as the first 2.

Ouch!

Here's where I chime in to defend the first two X-Men films which were very well done. Bryan Singer did a fantastic job with these films both of which sit proudly on my dvd shelf.

I am, however, concerned about X3 which is being rushed into production with a new director just to meet a release date (May 26th '06) even though there is no script and they're still casting!

When Marvel (Fox, in this case) rushes a project into existence, the end result is often subpar. Just watch Fantastic Four.

Part of the script is actually online... and it's... well, when it went up there were a lot of "DIE FOX DIE" MSN titles.

Major, major, major, major spoilers in this... If this really is true, then it's absolutely horrendous. They've massacred what could've been a good movie.

I googled this news to see how many people had heard of it, and to see what else I could find out, and I actually found sites in Spanish and (I think) Russian. X-men/Joss/Summer have a wide fanbase when you put them all together. Just thought I'd share...

Thanks PHOEBE; that was...uh...something. If that's the state of X-Men 3, maybe Summer Glau should run for the hills while she still has the chance.

No probs.

See, I'm conflicted. I want Summer to be in a big movie, with a good character and plenty of attention, since we all want big things for our girl Summer But at the same time... I pity anyone connected to that mistake.

X-Men was servicable, even well done in places. I own it, I watch it. It signifigantly toned down and underused the gang's powers, but it had a good story.
X-2 was a slick, well produced, great looking mess. Singer can't direct action, so he lets others handle that, so you get this uneven junk copied from other movies! Pyro vs. the cops was from Firestarter! The X-Men's jet was Firefox! The fight scenes are Matrix! The end of the movie with the voiceover is Star Trek 2!!!
Magneato can STOP a plane in flight, but can't stop missles?!
And is Professor X gonna be unconcious for most of X-3 too???
I could go on for paragraphs, but you get the point.
I'd sell my copy of X-2 if Kelley Hu wasn't in it.
You want a good comic book movie? Try Spider-man, Batman, or Superman, The Movie.

X-3 will rock, though Chrisisall

INEVITABLETRAITOR

I personally really enjoyed the first two X-Men movies. Up until Batman Begins, X-2 was my favorite comic book movie. I though the Spider-Man movies were a bit cheesy. Plus, they helped a lot of actors' careers (even if they did then ruin them again i.e. Van Helsing, Darkness, I-Spy).
I was looking forward to X-3 unti I heard two of the worst words that can be associated with any movie: "Brett Rattner." He's such an egotistical and naive director. His commentaries are filled with phrases like "when I got the script this scene was really different and I made it so much better when I changed the wooden crates to Chinese statues. It brought so much more the the scene." If he can just copy his preceding director, like he did with Red Dragon, I think X-3 could be good enough, and I sounds like they're trying to compensate for his short comings with a strong cast. High hopes, low expectaions.

Totally disagree about X2 but I agree with your right to diasgree with me.
I loved it. Magneto's escape from his prison is one of the best scenes ever.

You wince at Magneto and the missles and yet you like Superman, The Movie. Did you see the flying around world and moving it back in time sequence? I didn't accept it as a third grader and I still don't buy it. It's a goofy movie that's fun to watch but I wouldn't put it at the top of the superhero movie heap.

Yeah, that was cool. There's a lot to like in X-2, like the mansion fight, I just get harsh with it because it could have been so much tighter. Spider-man 2 was the same, too much everything! Just tell a good story, then worry about how BIG it is.
And Superman is more fantasy than science fiction, so I'm willin' to cut it some slack.

Have I ever tried not being a mutant critic Chrisisall

Summer Glau, would be perfect for the role of Kitty Pryde, better then most other young actresses these days. I'm not sure about Maggie Grace dropping out of X3. I read in Wizard Mag that she was still in the running. If, Summer doesn't get the part, She GORRAM well should have!!
Those X-ecs, Have no Idea what they are missing if they don't cast Summer Glau as Kitty.
