Hi!
Even i'm very new to this comunity i have been watching the show right from the start and i wont tell you any news if i say thats the bloody best sci-fi show i've seen so far outperforming all Star Trek shows so far and stands in no relation with crappy stuff like Andromeda.
As a fan i really appreciate the fact that every episode is ways better than the previous one but this fact also gives me cause for concern, the story had a brilliant start and is getter better and better, which is as i allready wrote nothing negative, but im asking me how long can it last? Ya' know if something is Outstanding good than its very hard to make it better but not a deal to worsen it. I hope this show dont "run out of fuel" too soon.

Dont get me wrong, if the show can continue to improve even more many more sci fi fans are going to be very happy

PS: btw will this one be available for the german speaking people (like i am) one day?

it is if they know how to download it. I think you might know that or you wouldn't be here. if it will be on german TV someday isn't known yet. they don't know if there will be a full season of it in the US. even the UK doesn't get it yet and I didn't hear of any plans for them so far. but what's for sure is, if it ever gets to be on german TV it'll be most certainly badly translated and worse dubbed.

I'll stick with the english version. I'll buy DVDs if there'll be some. and I hope there will. I don't care if they come from the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, Germany... as long as they have the original english audio on them.

the internet is a real treat for all of us who want to decide for themselves what to watch and in which language to watch it.

by the way how fast were the Buffy and Angel DVDs in the US? US tends to get DVDs rather slowly because they hope to make money on reruns first. most of the time the UK gets DVDs first but it has to be aired in the UK before they'll make any DVDs there.

here in Germany no one can come up with a 'norm'. for example: we didn't see one EP of Enterprise here on TV but it is available on translated VHS tapes. but no DVDs. they dubbed it just to sell it on VHS? or would they like us to buy the crappy tapes with the crappy german dubbing now and then they will show it on TV and then maybe give us DVDs with the english (or maybe even not, Andromeda Season 1 was german only here) later? maybe we should pay three times instead of once.

I bought Farscape S1-S3 from the UK, Andromeda S1 also from the UK. Andromeda S2 I'm not sure yet. maybe the UK again, maybe here in Germany, at least this time they did bother to put the english audio on them. S3 isn't worth buying. ST TNG, DS9 and hopefully VOY will be bought here (TNG is up to S6, the rest will follow, I'll stop and look abroad as soon as they ditch the english audio). if there will be Enterprise DVDs with the english audio someday I'll probably buy them too. Babylon 5 just started with S1 here and it has the english audio so I bought it. but if I see something in the US or Canada or Australia that I'd like to have I'm not shy to buy it there. it's legal for german people to buy things for their own use abroad and I make use of that as often as there is something I can't get here or is way to expensive here.

sorry for being slightly off topic again. I tend to rant on some issues.

I wouldn't be too concerned about the show maintaining its highpoints. Joss Whedon, for his other shows, usually has multiple seasons sketched in advance. His other shows do not drop off. Granted, there will always be the occasional sub-par episode (sub-par for the series, not for normal television). Of course, I may not be the best person to take advice from on this matter. Take Buffy the Vampire Slayer. (have you seen this? Highly recommended.) With the exception of Season 2 (which other seasons can only equal, never surpass), every season has been quality work (Season 4 was a bit iffy, though). And yes I LOVED Season 6. Anyone who doesn't agree is obviously an idiot. Flame on!

In short, don't worry about the creative factor ending. Worry more about the possibility that this show might never get the opportunity to lose its creative edge.

I'm with you about season six AND season four.

I loved last season. I think it was necessary, and really well done.

As for season four, I just didn't like the whole Adam storyline... too Frankenstein for me. And I didn't need yet ANOTHER reason to think US military folks aren't the brightest bulb in the pack. The good thing about this season, is we saw the beginnings of Dark Willow... which I just love. not that I want Willow evil... but it's pretty much always an amazing episode when she goes a little (or a lot) bad. :)

______________
I'm talking! Don't interrupt me, insignificant man! I am Willow. I am Death. if you dare defy me, I will call down my fury, exact fresh vengeance, and make your worst fears come true. OK?

yeah! well
@idefix yeah german dubbed versions are usually worse not only because the dialects can not be translated propertly but also some jokes are hinged on the language its just that there are very less people i know who have an idea what firefly is, i was just wondering if ther will be FF available on sat1, pro7 or whatever.

@lefthand
well hope you're right, im not a fan of fantasy/vampire stuff so i dont watch buffy which means i dont have any idea how this show started and how it is now.
And, yeah lets hope this show will survive long enough to get the chance to run out of "fuel" which hopefully will take LOADS of time.

There are tons of licensing agreements that need to be negotiated before DVDs are made or sold in the U.S. The music industry absolutely must get its share of sales of DVDs using music from known artists, or whatever they're called. See thefutoncritic for some details on TV show DVDs in the works, delayed, or never planned (it is not planned to make DVDs of Firefly).

thanks for the infos and the link.

so maybe we all should hope that the UK decides to show Firefly soon and then most probably make DVDs of it. anyone any news on that front? probably not as long at it isn't decided if it's pickt up for the rest of the season. maybe BBC could get it. I think I might buy a satellite dish to get it on the BBC. I think one can get the british free TV here in Germany. if one tunes in with the right satellite.

but I have german cable TV here and don't watch one minute of it. you can't decide if you want it or not if you live in a house that has it, it's yours if not not. but you do have to pay for it, if the house has it. but you also have to pay for the offical channels and you're never asked if you want to watch those. but all in all it's not that much money. the pay-TV here in germany isn't faring too well because most people won't pay much money for TV and they do sell it in odd packets (selling you a channel that you want with more channels that you don't want).
but I think I wouln't be allowed to get a satellite dish, because I already have cable and it is only allowed to put up satellite dishes if you don't have cable or if you are not german so you could tune in with your home country TV. some things are weird here. it's about the satellite dishes being ugly to look at or something.

but if BBC or some other free TV channel from the UK that could be received in germany shows Firefly maybe I just try it. maybe no one will notice or at least press charges. I thought about it, when I heard that the BBC shows Farscape. but getting it over the internet is about the same as getting the broadcast from another country. one would still not be able to buy things that are advertised to pay for the show. maybe I'll stay with downloading until DVDs come out. and I won't give up hope, that's just not my style.

I actually enjoyed S.4 of Buffy:

The Return of Spike (and his chipification)... First days of college... Oz splits... Willow's will be done... Anya and Xander... Hush... Willow meets Tara... Buffy joins the commandos and kicks their asses in training... Oz returns and is subjected to scientific experimentation... Professor Walsh tries to kill Buffy... the gang turned against itself... Cheese slices...

Personally I was glued to my seat with a perma-grin the whole season.

Adam was an adequate Big Bad who understood humor better than even he himself could've guessed.
"You were a boy scout?"
"Parts of me."

My only real S.4 complaint was with how quickly they dispatched Professor 'Bitch-Monster-From-Hell'. I believe her obsessive agenda merited more exploration than it received. And the Washington DC angle could have been more than a cameo in the next-to-last episode of the season.

S.3 is still my all time favorite, though (Faith)!

I do agree with you that I liked Season 4; I just believe it was the weakest of the seasons for all the reasons you just mentioned. It felt like that season was inching along for about 18 episodes and then someone finally realized that they had to wrap it up. I guess I feel the same way about Season 1, but what with the necessary early character development, which has gotten easier for them to write. Witness how strong Firefly is in this first season. It doesn't feel like anyone is trying to find their character. Fantastically well done. (Yes, I feel guilty not mentioning Firefly on a Firefly site, so there it was; guilt removed.) Season 1 also had the Master: the first in a long line of terrific nemesises. =)
