Cross-posting from the OB. WE ONLY HAVE TWO MORE DAYS UNTIL FIREFLY RE-AIRS ON THE SCI-FI CHANNEL!!! GET OUT THERE AND CONVERT, PEOPLE!!! MA-shong!

---

From: 11thHour Jul-19 8:56 pm

Just thought I'd let folks know that I've revised several of my guerilla marketing posters to promote the Firefly series rebroadcast on the Sci-Fi channel!

Let's make the most of this wonderful opportunity to gather new fans to our ranks! More Firefly fans means more movie tickets purchased for Serenity... and we want healthy box office returns for our shiny BDM. 'Cause good returns means SEQUELS.

mmmmmmm.... Seeeeequels...

So please, by all means, download the regular size or a nice group of mini posters, and start spreadin' the word in a serious way. (Btw, not all of the posters have the Sci-Fi info, but the majority do.)

Please take a look and make good use of 'em!

Thanks.

Jayne, your mouth is talkin. Might want to look into that.

while playing the international trailer in the office this morning, attracted the attention of a co-worker. pulled the DVD out of my computer bag and gave him the short version. showed him the US trailer. he noted the Friday hijinks in his Palm and went away a more informed person. I believe that I have made a convert.

created my latest e-message to several dozen folks about this coming Friday's bodacious-ness, added a little about the movie, and included links to both the US and international trailers. let it sit on my taskbar for review before sending it out, wound up adding a link for the Dutch trailer and the James Doohan 411.

I've now seen the ad twice on Sci-Fi in the last 24 hours (owing just as much to lack of frequency, to my own laziness, so no hard feelings there).

Is there a link online to watch this promo (assuming there's only one) again and again? Cuz there SHOULD be...

(hint, hint...)

11th Hour,

I love your site and have been taking your posters with me to video rental stores, movie theaters, cattle feed stores, and barbecue joints. Last night I wore the shirt I made with iron-ons of your work at the Spider House showing of "Jaynestown" and "Out of Gas," where I sang my Ballad of Joss and preached a little sermon about how helpful your art is in guerilla marketing. I also included a link to your site on the third page of my MP3 postcard. I hope you don't mind. I put out the postcard right now in hopes that it will remind people to tell everyone about Firefly.

Let's hope everyone else will get out there and do their part! I've posted several announcements to my band's fan club Yahoo group; posting on Yahoo is a great way to spread the word, folks!

We will rise again!

Quicksand, I posted a torrent of the SciFi ad on PirateBay (thepiratebay dot org) - search for "firefly" and you'll find it.

Cedric,

You're doin' powerful good works out there in the world. So gratifying to know that the posters are being used for what they were born to do. And to answer your question, I don't mind my site being linked in order to help promote our beloved show/movie. It's a good site to let folks know about... not just for using the posters, but also for providing the extra Firefly/Serenity links at the bottom of the page. Helps the newbies find their way around to many of the main sites.

Kudos to you for all your work in getting the word out!

Lots of talk radio shows (Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, etc.) have "open" lines on Fridays where they let people call in about whatever they want to. Those nationally syndicated shows have audiences in the millions. It'd be worth a shot.

Man, I've fallen into lurking lately, but just braggin' on m'self -

--Have recently converted at least one person I've never actually met on the strength of my LJ raves alone. :)

--Have today done another LJ rave, complete with super-mini-descriptions + pics of all characters, link to the international trailer, link to Sci-fi's schedule, and a random link to a semi-objective article

--Have just recieved a comment from one LJ friend, and I quote, "I don't watch TV (hardly ever) so be sure to email me every hour on Friday to remind me; and when you get home from work, email me every half hour. Or every ten minutes. Or call me? Do you have my number? Call me."

Aaaaah. Shiny.

I just recently converted two people to the wonderfull world that is called Firefly.

I was on vacation with my brother, and a buddy of ours who came with us, asked me if I had seen the trailer for some movie called "Serenity". I almost fell down! I was like, "Hell yea!!". He asked me what it was? Of course I preceed to tell him all about Firefly, and thats where the movie came from. I let him borrow my DVD's ta see what he thought of the show.

About a week after we got back from vacation (yesterday), he calls me, and says he's in love with the series, and cant believe the show got cancled. He was saying he wanted ta see more, there was no more. He felt empty! lol Well, he's VERY happy theres a movie coming. He let my brother borrow the dvds, and now my brother calls me today, and is in love witht the show! I plan on showing them to a friend of mine, and convert her too. hehe

Ta bring this to a close, it's really fun converting people into Firefly fans. Everyone who seems to watch it, ends up loving it. Swear, the show was way ahead of it's time. Thats why I think it was canceld. Plus it wasnt some cruddy reality tv show or Law and Order spin off. lol Anway, just wanted ta share that with ya'll. Thanks for reading!

Jorge

To Jav7469-

That story you shared was touching. But I agree, converting people into Firefly fans is really fun and rewarding. I've converted my uncle (who is greatly obsessed with it now) and aunt, who are going to go with me when the movie debuts. PsychicRiver and I have converted an online friend, and I hope to gather some more friends and family members before September. Its our job, as fans, to ensure the movie gets the ratings it deserves. And if that means recruiting, then so be it.

As for getting the word out on the airings on Sci Fi, I'll be posting up the posters on my blogs and myspace.

Mal: Define interesting.
Wash: Oh god, oh god, we're all gonna die?

Sorry for the newbie questions here but I only heard about Serenity because of the HD trailer on apple.com. Then someone mentioned Firefly in passing to my comment about wanting to see Serenity. Then I was watching the ghost hunters marithon on sci-fi today and there was the commerical for Fiirefly being on this friday. It's already set in my DVR.

Just wanted to know if this was going to be starting with the first episode of season 1? Is there more than one season?

Don't want to start something in the middle if I can just go find the DVD.

Thanks,
Singinius

All the info I've seen indicates that Sci-Fi will start with the first hour of the two hour pilot (also called Serenity but different from the movie coming out Sept. 30th) and should continue in order.

Sadly there was less than a full season, and yes the DVD set is available with lots of Shiny extras, including 3 unaired episodes (Sci-Fi will show these too I think).

Oh, and Welcome Aboard. good to see the trailer is doing it's job.

Welcome! I think this Friday at 7pm (6pm central) will be the 1st hour of the 2 hour pilot. I'm a little disappointed they couldn't show the whole 2 hour pilot initially, but I think I heard that they will re-show the 1st hour before next week's installment, so those who start watching next week can get the whole 2 hours at once. There's a lot of background and build-up in the first hour, and HUGE pay-offs in the 2nd hour, so I wonder if people will be frustrated by only getting to see the first half...oh well, it's only a week, right?

Jayne, your mouth is talkin. Might want to look into that.

For what it is worth, I am almost a complete fan of Firefly. I just saw the first half of the Pilot this past friday and am eagerly anticipating the second half this friday coming up.

If the second half is as good as or better than the first half I think I will be hooked...and for my peril...since I will eagerly watch the series and the movie and then be left....with nothing.

Maybe Sci-fi channel will pick up a second season?

I'm a convert in a way. Where I live you need cable TV to be able to watch FOX or any other channel in the US. In 2002, two weeks before Firefly's premiere, which I was waiting for anxiously since I loved Whedon's previous work, my cable connection was cut off, leaving me all dressed up and nowhere to go. I had to read transcripts over the net, sadly it is not the same as seeing the real deal. Then I moved to another house and installed a cable connection but by then Firefly was canceled. No cable once again now, but I was able to watch the first part of the pilot on SciFi over at a friend's house. This show was so freakin' amazing and it's so devastating that it was cancelled when some crap shows out there keeps getting renovated each season for reasons still unknown to a logical mind. I'm planning a monetary strategy so I can buy the DVDs and since I could be so single-minded sometimes about certain things, I bet I'll have them at home pretty soon. Anyway, just wanted to share my war story in the search for "Firefly".

Welcome Arconin! After you (inevitably) get hooked at the finish of the 2nd half of the pilot, the best way to ensure that there is more Firefly after the movie is to get all your friends, family, co-workers, and strangers you meet on the street to see the movie!

Jayne, your mouth is talkin. Might want to look into that.

sorry havent read the page yet just jumped in from IMDB. on their homepage is a decent sized ad. On top Firefly on sci-fi, Serenity on bottom. Cool advertising. I'm trying to get people to watch, but I don't know that many people, and those I do I play D&D with on Friday night. The house we play in has Satalite, Firefly's over before I even get off work. My friend has tivo on his satalite system and I'm trying to get him to record it. At least for this friday with the Serenity trailer.
