MANWITHPEZ

Important people don't do field work.

The more I read media response to Serenity and Firefly, the more I see this phrase:

"Firefly fans, otherwise known as "Browncoats""

And, you know what...The more I hear it, the more I like it. It gives me a sense of purpose in this campaign. And, that's what it is...Don't fool yourself...this is a headlong campaign to make sure that as many people as possible know about Firefly! The first I tried was in my family. Surely, these are the same people I come from. I can find a Browncoat here, can't I?

No can do, there, manwithpez. And, that doesn't bother me. I have always been the black sheep in my family. I just wonder how many people have realized that they are the only Browncoat in their family?

And, that's not a bad thing. With, as the rest of Joss Whedon's works, you happen to find yourself to being the minority, when it comes to loving it, then take comfort in knowing that you are not alone. Though not everyone around you might like it, there is a vast...(and I mean vast) family out there in the ether that is waiting...nee', yearning to embrace you and make you one of their own.

And, this is not a "creepy" family. But, this is, in fact, a family. It will embrace you. It will take you in as though you were there from the start. And, though we kinda deny labels around here, we will give you one.

That label is: Browncoat. You see, my problem with the media involving Firefly, is that they seem to be leveling this name at us as though it might be a bad thing. And, it's not. In fact, the more Browncoats I meet, or come across, the more I wish that the more people I meet, the more like Browncoats I wish they were.

Folks...Let's face facts here...Firefly, for all intents and purposes in this sitcom governed world, is not a well known property, worldwide. It should be, but it isn't. Is that our fault. Kinda. I mean, if we were watching the show from the start, we wouldn't be talking about this right now, would we? No. We would all be basking in the glow of Firefly, Firefly merchandise, etc. In fact, we might even be getting tired of it (Though, I doubt it. If Firefly was nothing else, it was interesting.) Getting bored or not, Here's the facts:

Would there be a movie without us?

Fuck no! And not for bad reason...We loved this show. We liked it so much that we drew it back from the dead...And, boy, was it good to see!

Admit, that if you were a Browncoat before all the real hype, you felt very proud to see Serenity fly again. I know that I was!

So, carry the badge with pride. You are a Browncoat! Conduct yourself worthy! You had a hand in keeping a very viable series alive. Now that you know that you are a piece of showbusiness history, be proud of it!

I know I am!

Kaylee: "What's so damn important about being proper? It don't mean nothing out here in the black."
Simon: "It means more out here. It's all I have..."

PURPLEBELLY

While visitors to the Universal viral marketing site may suppose differently, you can count me as a Firefly fan, but not a Browncoat. I claim no merit from the work of others.
