The Choice

Both screenings for Joss Whedon's feature debut sold out within hours, and small wonder. It sees the Buffy and Angel creator whip his less famous, though very smart, television series Firefly into a full-blown sci-fi epic, now pitting the spaceship Serenity's crew against the murderous Operative (British actor Chiwetel Ejiofor, in his biggest role to date). The film cost $40 million - a pittance compared to most modern blockbuster budgets, but few would bet against this being spectacular fun and a massive hit when it goes on general release later this year. Tickets: 0131 623 8030. Aug 22, 24, with further screenings to be announced.

Oh, and play Cantr II at www.cantr.net.

For those abroad who don't know, the Daily Telegraph is Britain's best selling broadsheet paper, very respected so you'd expect it to give the accolade to a foreign language film or some small British effort. This is a serious sign of prestige and a very promising indicator (plus they mentioned our efforts in breaking the website again. Yay!)

This is so great! A lot of film distributors from the US and all over the world go to this festival, so this is really great publicity for our BDM!
I am so excited! I wish it was September already.

I think it's beyond comprehension how well Serenity is doing in the press. Everywhere it goes, everyone is loving it. To have the Daily Telegraph hailing it and picking it as the top film, is just incredible.

The thing I'm most interested in, aside from seeing the movie in 60 days, is the reception it will get here in the US, as well as what will happen. Will we see more movies, or will we see the show back on the air. I am voting for the show.

I am also voting for more show. It doesnt really strike me as the movie kind of story. But I am very excited about the BDM because I want more people to know about it, and hopefully it will come back in some form.

Oh, Leesmovieinfo.com hated it. I was so sad when I was reading this! lol but look what they said, "If you took the sci-fi element of Pluto Nash, mixed it with the outrageousness of Steel, and added in the really bad dialogue from Paycheck, Serenity would be the result."

(I dont know how to do quotes that special way...)

But who needs them! lol :)

I have never even heard of that site, who cares what they have to say. EVERYONE is voicing how much they love the movie, one unknown site doesn't like it and it's supposed to matter? Feh.

I check it all the time to see how much money the movies are making, great site for gross values and stuff. But from now on I may find another site! lol I just thought it was interesting to see how that one person hated it and everyone else I know really likes it.

I decided to check this guy's site out. I reviewed most of his 152 reviews (grades only) and seem to come to the following conclusion: I don't think this guy likes having fun at the movies. He had only a few grades above a B and they were all for very dark, serious movies. I can't completely hate the guy, he did give Kill Bill I an A. But please, Rules of Attraction and A???? Wow, that movie had not a single person to root for, very dark images (e.g. gang rape, etc.). So, back to my conclusion, I don't think he likes to have fun at the movies. The other thing that bothered me is why is he reviewing a movie that has been released in final cut yet? Also, he contradicts himself: says at one point things are unclear and difficult to follow and then compares the moview to bad TV show that you can run in the background and not pay much attention to. Granted everyone is entitled to their own opinion, just find out what their opinions of other movies are to see where they are coming from I guess.

YT

the movie is not the Series. Only the facts have been changed, to irritate the innocent; the names of the actors and characters remain the same

Thank you for the research & analysis, tulip. I was content to ignore him; now I know I'm unlikely to miss anything thereby.
