CHRONICTHEHEDGEHOG

I have just returned home from Memorabilia and have to say it was incredibly enjoyable. I went along with a firefly virgin and a fan, I returned with a wannabe-fan and a fanatic. The Serenity table was possibly the smallest table there but by far the most occupied. People were flocking to it. I got myself some free Serenity matches and I bought a replica of Mal's gun. I couldn't afford it, but what the hey, it's firefly (or Serenity if you prefer (is there any kind of ruling as to what we should be calling the combined Serenity/firefly universe yet?))

The shindig too was lots of fun, loads of new promo pics to see and a bunch of interesting and fun people to boot. I won a signed picture of Summer and the most wonderful woman in the world gave me and a friend the tickets she won to see Joss as she couldn't go. (If this wonderful woman is reading this, I am so very grateful. On a high that cannot be beaten).

A few thanks for such a fun day out:

The organisers. I don't know who you are by name (apart from Zol) but you guys were fantastic.
Kurgen. I don't know if you did anything but win half the raffle but you deserve props for having such a cool name.
The woman who convinced us to come to the shindig.
The woman who reminded me the name of the band playing was Nickel Creek because that would have driven me mad all night.
The guys who graciously allowed us to sit with them beforehand in the foyer/bar area, even if the majority of it was slightly awkward quiet, contemplative silence.
The pretty girl going round in/on the wash-o-saurus. You got more balls than me.
UIP for providing such cool stuff. I say again, Serenity matches!

It was all indeed a great deal of fun. It's pretty safe to say the table was the consistently busiest in the whole gorram hall. Two trailers playing on an LCD TV, posters behind, balloons to mark the table out, dedicated folks behind the table and a few helpers with flyers and brochures out the front too.

I helped with the flyers! I noticed there was no one doing it at one point so me and ButtMonkey got to it, resplendant in our Jayne hats.

The shindig was a good laugh too, great to see the group talk from the Serenity con again... Ah, happy days. And I finally rediscovered that Chris Buchanon was the one who said to do the sequel for Jewel, which is what one of my badges says.

Oh, and hi Chronic! It's damn shiny that Mal pistol, ain't it? I'm quite impressed with mine too. We had quite a good little chat in the bar, too. Heh.

I still can't believe Clare wandered around in that Wash-A-Saurus for most of the day. That thing weighs a ton. She's a star.

I love my pistol! Embarrased to say I've been wearing it half the day!

It's weird, apart from Zol I didn't know who anyone there was. Today I'm slowly realising half the people I met were regular board faces!

Been trying to sort out travel to get up to Edinburgh for the tickets I got given to the Joss talk. Very expensive. Grrrr. Ah well, it'll be worth it.

Oh, and how many other people do you think got stuck/confused at the car park barrier at the end of the night? Must remember the code is 159 for next year

thats nothing to the confusion of how to turn the damn lights on in the hotel

serioulsly though - i had only met one person who was there before this weekend. When i arrived on Friday i was sitting nervously in my car for 5 mins wondering if i really am mad - but half an hour later i truly felt as though i was with friends

the whole event from start to finish and everyone there deserves huge thanks - but more i think to our browncoat friends across the pond who were the inspiration

judging by the gawping faces watching the trailer this weekend its gonna big -
and if you didn't see the sunday times today check this out (i think anyone outside the uk may have trouble)

It's why these kind of things are so good - you get to meet people you'd never have met otherwise who like the same thing you do. And do your best to convert random folk in passing while you're at it

And getting to meet the faces behind the usernames is great too

SLAYERFEST

If I wasn't such a fool I would be in bed now but its still only 40 minutes since I got in (1am). I just have to come and publicly thank everyone who attended and everyone who worked so damned hard. I got a lot of attention but you guys did the work. See some of you in Edinburgh.

I'm really glad it all went off so well! Wish I coulda been there (and since the football match I was at yesterday was so rubbish, I probably *should* have ditched it for a trip to Birmingham!) 'cause it sounds like so much fun was had!

I'm happy we got some pics of the Wash-A-Saurus with the Stormtroopers. I was telling Buttmonkey (I think) how fantastic that would look, and I was right!

Does anyone know who she is? i saw the pic in the blue sun room, and, even though staring isnt polite, i couldn't help myself. HOT! snd there was at least one other responder to the pic, asking the same thing. she could have her own fanbase here!

...May have been the losing side, Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Clare Ramsey was the girl in the Washosaurus, one person was reported to ask if Summer riding the dinosaur was signing at the event - but don`t tell Clare that I said that in public!

She designed, created & wore the full costume on both days - which is a feat in itself - putting it away took several guys on the saturday - and Clare wore this delighting everyone form young to old - if you check out the pics in my gallery http://serenity.fotopic.net there`s a lovely set of asian twins & a small girl sitting on washosaurus (remember that clare is carry all that weight too), she posed with screen figures & made people star in disbelieve - someone actually thought there was a man inside carrying clare on hgis back!
