Yeah ok, must work something out. As for my head? Can't I just take a picture of it?

Ok, I'll do the measuring thing (if there's enough tape to go around it) and let you know tomorrow. I really must go to bed. Normally I'd be up till 1 on this blasted machine but alas I'm feeling a bit sleepy already. Must be all the typing

Actually, I take no offense at being compared to George Lucas, though I really don't see it. Well, aside from curly hair and beard that was once dark but is going grey.

Ooh, now I feel guilty. I haven't done a lick of work on writing anything. Must check to see when the deadline is. I've barely had time to do any knitting this week. Grr.

I have to go to a wedding in Florida this weekend and it is stressing me out. I couldn't afford to fly so I have to drive the 9hrs there, just to spend 2 or 3 hrs at a wedding where probably the only person I know will be the groom, and there probably won't be any alcohol since it's at a pentacostal church. No dancing either, just sitting around eating cake and nuts and drinking punch made with sherbert and ginger ale. Then I have to turn around the next morning and drive the 9hrs back home. I have to go shopping after work today because I haven't bought a gift yet. It's going to cost more money than I want to spend and the whole thing is stressing me out. I've had a headache for two days now. I don't like headaches.

Plus, I can't figure out what to wear.

Okay, done whinging.

How's everyone else doing today?

Have fun at the wedding......I've been to one very similar. All we got is ONE glass of punch. I was best man and the groom's mother kept giving me the hairy eyeball. She thought I was up to something. I was...but that's another story

Dug, I'll save you a spot in line. Not that it will help much. I'm beginning to think no matter where you are in line, it will always be 84 1/2 days.

Well ok Serenity...you asked for it....

My friends family is super ultra religious. It was one of those kneel down ceremonies and what I had PLANNED on doing was stealing his shoes and writing "help" on the bottom of one and "me" on the bottom of the other. I had the shoes at one point, but mom with the hairy eyeball tracked me down and took them back.

What I did end up doing, was I bought a very large box of condoms and handed one to each of the male guests (that I could talk into it) and as we went through the receiving line we hid the (packaged) condom in our hands so that when we shook hands with the groom....well, he ended up with his pockets full to overflowing and me getting yet another hairy eyeball from his mom.

Almost a "you had to be there", but you asked for it. What made it funny is that his particular religion frowns on birth control. Plus it was a dig at our university days, back then I had given him a condom and he kept it in his bible as a bookmark....

I still don't like the ribbing at the bottom, I'm working on improving it for future hats. I think it's the fault of the yarn more than the pattern, though. Hmmm...

Serenity, I recently passed up going to a wedding I was interested in (friends of my boyfriend) partly because I had nothing to wear to it. How silly our customs get sometimes. It does suck you have to spend so much on gas and drive all that way alone! Couldn't you get a friend to go with you? Pitch it as a vacation in Florida, they don't have to sit through the wedding with you... I'd say for the gift get something off their registry or that you know the groom will like. That's ok since you know him. And hey, you're British? I was born in Canada--where people love the queen and speak with accents... but with more snow.

I thought the wedding hijinks sounded hilarious, but of course, I wasn't mother of the groom.

Wow, chocolate goodness between you two! Wish I could sink my teeth into some of that. I never get to eat dessert anymore because my mother and sister are on weightwatchers (I'm not, but I'm stuck with their food). But I spent a long time this morning planning a Thai menu for tomorrow's shabbat dinner. Yum.

Amy-if only, if only.

If only I could convince someone to come with me to FL so I wouldn't have to drive the whole way by myself..

If only EVERY SINGLE item on my friend's registry hadn't already been purchased so I have to go scrounging for something suitable (which is really hard since I don't know the bride and her style or tastes.)...

If only I hadn't been born in the US and forced for many a year to live in the south so I could have a wonderful accent and also love the queen (For all our faults, we love our Queen! Pirates of Penzance anyone?)

If only there was a way to make virtual chocolates real so we could email you delectables...(but don't feel bad. I've been on a diet for months myself and hardly eat anything fun. That's why I talk about it so much here I think. That and alcohol.)

If only I could be at your house friday night because I LOVE thai (made some last week and it was fantastic. Yellow curry. What're you making? Also, I used to know the evening prayers in Hebrew, back when I worked at a daycare at a synagogue. But it's been awhile and I'm sure I've forgotten most of it. I can't wait till I get to learn hebrew.

Oh well. If wishes were horses...

Must get back to packing for my trip.

Oh, but thanks for the hat compliments, everyone. Really, it's not hard and it's fun to do.

And Flechie-I got a present in the mail today with your name on it!! Much thanks!! Your hat isn't done yet, I've had a busy busy week. But I just need to do the ear flaps and the pom pom, so I can finish it up early next week and get it out to you soon.

Thanks Amy, I was worried about stepping on somebodies sensibilities, I was going for the funny, not insulting. The groom thought it was hilarious, especially after about the 8th condom...But then thats why he's my friend.

Another Canadian eh? East, central or West? My favorite saving is, it's not cold out until you can skate on the lake, then it's time to start wearing a sweater and put the T-shirts away.

Serenity:

--P of P

(I'm sure we have some interests NOT in common, they're just not coming up)

All the evening prayers start with "baruch atah adonai, elohenu melech haolam..." right? My first college roommate learned that much :) What a neat past you've had. Do you want to learn Hebrew so you can read the bible in the original Hebrew? I promise you it's worth the effort. The original words can be REALLY different and very meaningful (compared to some translations--hebrew to latin to greek to english definitely has its problems!)

Due to the little time I'll have before Shabbat this week, and my family's diets, I'm going to make a fresh red curry paste from scratch and then make two dishes with that as the base. It's not really a good idea to have two with the same basic flavor, but ah, the time! So one will be a red coconut curry with chicken and red pepper (at least) and the other some eggplant, green bean, veggie stir-fry. I also want to try a new paht thai recipe as I haven't yet found a perfect one. Generally I make thai iced tea for dessert as well. Thai cooking is so much fun! (ie delicious)

Safe:
I was born in Victoria, you? I know Vancouver Island is kindof Canada-lite, but it is SO beautiful. And I got citizenship--yay for universal free health care and gay marriage! We moved to California for a variety of reasons (better economy and job stability, weather, schools) but I still retain 10-20 "Canadian" words (ex: till, carpark, chesterfield, queue...) I only discover these aren't "American words" when I use one and people give me blank stares. Then I'm thinking, wow, I didn't know that was Canadian, I thought that was "normal". Happens with yiddish sometimes too. Anyway, the kids did tease the accent out of me when I moved here (darn kids! in your 20's everyone thinks an accent is cool!) but I still say "eh" every paragraph or so...

Cheers, Amy

I'm so glad you got it okay, CMS! and pretty quick too - my bank sent it out Monday or Tuesday.

About the wedding present - perhaps you could get a gift certificate at one of the places from the registery? That makes it easy for them to pick up any odds and ends or new pieces that came out since the registry was made.

I've done that several times and it seemed to work out well. I generally make a card or do something to personalize it a bit- or buy a really extravagent (sp?) card

Good luck and have a safe trip!

Whoo-hoo!!! IHOP!! (You big spender, you!!)

How can I resist, TRM? (Actually, I really like their international crepes: the Swedish one has lingon berries on it. yum yum.) Okay, you're in line for a hat after Needy. I have a feeling I'm going to spend my time at the browncoat table at Dragon*Con knitting away!

Amy-that's all I can remember of the prayer!! lol. And yes, I really want to learn Hebrew. (I still remember a few things; how to count to 10 and the alphabet and a few phrases.) I'm on a hiatus at the moment from college (VERY LONG story) but I was working on a degree in linguistics. I want to do bible translation. I've already taken Greek (LOVED IT) and can't wait to study hebrew. And then maybe one day Latin. I just love languages.

And you're making your own red curry base! Good for you. I buy my bases pre-made. It's very hard for me to find all the ingredients I need. Lemon grass and shallots and dried chilies are impossible to find around here, for starters. I tend to have to order stuff online. I've found some yummy recipies online. I think www.atasteofthai.com has recipies for pad thai. You could try there.

I LOVE Canada! I really do. But I've never been to BC. Toronto and Niagra Falls and a bit of Quebec, but never very West.

And Safe-Maine is where my dad's family's from. It's not a very good representation of the rest of America (and I mean this in a good way. I love Maine. It is, in my mind, the prettiest and cleanest, and best smelling state there is.) But yeah, they're really big on ketchup in Maine. It goes on everything. That and tabasco sauce. But we do eat vinegar on alot of stuff in Maine. Mostly veggies. My grandmother would make cukes and vinegar for nearly every meal.

Flechette-that is a good suggestion and I may end up doing it. But I'm going to stop at this store in florida that I know my friend really likes and see if I can find something there first. And if I can't find something, well, I'm running to Target for a gift card.

I'm so happy it's Friday!! I think we should have a party.

I gotta run too to get started on my curry. About the ingredients, one word: California. We're spoiled here in terms of fruits and veggies and the high population of people from around the world make it possible to find stores that carry specialty items. Good for you for making it happen with less, though! That online recipe club is neat, I also buy used cheap cookbooks off amazon and then improvise.

Ewww...I just witnessed Sin City. I'd say I watched it, but that would mean I did it by choice...it was like a car wreck, I couldn't look away. I don't understand it,I like action films, I like Bruce Willis, I definitly like Jessica Alba (sorry but she's a handsome woman) so why was this movie so bad?? How could it fail?? Damn space monkeys are writing scripts again...

CALLMESERENITY

Ugh, I had to dig this thread out from the bottom of the laundry pile! Shame shame shame!

But at least we're still partying! Whoop!

Amy-when I lived on Guam, every soda was a "coke" (as in, "What kind of coke would you like?" "A sprite") or a "cola", and then it became "soda pop" when I moved to CA. Now that I love on the east coast, everything's just "soda". But I have many a friend from the midwest that still call it "pop". Funny, isn't it?
And I will ponder what lovely dry goods I would like to have sent. Oh, the choices!

TRM-Get down with your bad self!
