Wasn't Reavers the word of the day yesterday?

Reviving an old topic, since I missed it the first time around.

PB&J is an american tradition (I say this alot don't I?.) We all grew up eating them. I don't eat them too often anymore. PB has too much fat.

Variations on the PB&J:
The Fluffernuttter: peanut butter and marshmallow fluff. My grandmother used to make them for us. Now I think it's too sweet, but as a kid I adored them. (Have you ever had one TWG?)

PB and banana: So very good. I also discovered an even better was to make it. You silce the banana in half and then cut each half the long way so you have four semi-flat pieces. You spread pb on the inside of two slices of bread, butter on the outside of the slices. You lay the banana on one slice then drizzle with honey and cover with the other slice and then you grill it like a grilled cheese sandwich. Unbelievably good. And messy.

PB & Mayonnaise: My brother used to eat this. I think it sounds disgusting and would never even try it, but for you mayo fans out there, you might want to give it a gander.

PB & cheese: Another brother sandwich. He ate weird stuff.

PB& pickles: My grandfather eats these and claims they're good.

PB& bologna: (is our bologna the same as yours? Dunno.) I think I've actually eaten this and it's not too bad. I used to take bologna, spread it with pb and roll it into a tube and eat it that way. No bread.

PB with fruit slices:
This is my more grown-up way of eating pb&j. Instead of preserves, I'll use fresh fruit like apple slices or grapes or blueberries. And since I tend to make my own nut butters, it's very good.

There you go. A lecture on pb and it's various uses. Much better than that fermented fungus stuff other people eat.

I'm not sure about any of those. They all sound quite odd, some (mayo, cheese, pickles) more than others.

PB is good when it gets slightly warmed up from being spread on toast. If either of them last long enough before they are eaten, anyway

I'm sure this sounds like sacrilege to most Americans but I can't stand peanut butter. Even the smell of it is... ugh. As a spread, it is a work of evil second only to Marmite, scourge of the entire toasted universe.

*sets his crank to Fray*

No, wait, that doesn't work. Plus no-one will get the reference.

What's creepy? Was my "set my crank to Fray" reference creepy? I knew it wouldn't work, there was a MST3K sketch with the characters setting up their own radio station and Frank implored everyone to "set their crank to Frank" so I was following the same formula but changing two letters and... *gives up*

Peanut butter is all very well in a sandwich but it doesn't come out of hair even if you shower two or three times.
Most inconvenient.

That was an embarrassing afternoon at my local vicar's house, I can tell you.

His daughter was a little upset too.

So was her mother.

Not to mention the Labrador.

See, you have to let the pb dry a bit and get crumbly and then you comb it out before you wash your hair. This I know from experience.

And what kind of whimpy shampoo are you using?

I've only ever had to stay overnight in hospital once, when I was a nipper. I couldn't eat the first day because of the concussion, but I could the second. First thing I asked for?

A Marmite sandwich.

Sadly, I could only have soup.

Previous to this discussion, I thought there were three things extra good to consume when you are feeling ill.

Marmite sandwiches, tea and chicken soup.

I shall have to add peanut butter sandwiches to the list.

And in the UK we're like hen's teeth. I'm starting to amass a decent sized collection of MST3K movies but have yet to convert anyone. I think you have to love bad movies to really appreciate the show.

Although I'd be fascinated to see what would happen if they were to do a MST3K job on Serenity.

I tell you what, Paddington is definitely not the place to be this afternoon!

We have no natural air conditioning so have bought little mobile units that could possibly bring the average glove box to about room temperature, never mind anything bigger and all of the trains have been suspended for the last couple of hours due to the most ill conceived suicide attempt ever. Someone got on the tracks just outside the station so it has affected every train heading west out of London.

Meh, what a crappy afternoon.

I eat extra creamy peanut butter by the jarful. In fact, I've been eating PB&J for lunch the last month to save up money for BDPP.

Peanut butter and banana sandwiches are of the gods...heavenly combination.

Peanut butter and chocolate chips, also quite yummers.

Peanut butter and marshmallow cream, oh man that's good (I also eat marshmallow cream by the jarful...I like sticky creamy foods...especially for play )

One of my faves is peanut butter and honey.

Pickles? I'll have to try that.

My dad eats the peanut butter and mayo. It's okay, but not drool worthy.

Peanut butter and butter.

mmmmm, butter, fresh creamy white butter, where's my spoon?

Radio? What is this radio thing you speak of? Does it work on my ipod?

I love New Orleans. I go there all the time. My father is a member of the Endymion Krewe for Mardi Gras, so we have lots of connections down there. I even tried college down in Louisiana (that was fun!).

On one hand, I really hope they can salvage things...on the other hand, I don't think they should. For the last few hundred years, we've been waiting for the day the New Orleans floods. We all knew it was inevitable, but we kept believing that it couldn’t' really happen. It's below sea level...at the mouth of a lake and ocean...it's a swamp! And yet, people made it their home. Do we rebuild? I don't know. So many great memories in New Orleans...I have friends there...old college buddies...I hope they're okay.

We were planning to visit my brother-in-law the end of this month, when we go down to Pensacola for vacation (and to visit my parents). I doubt very seriously there's even going to be a drivable route to the city, assuming there'll be a city to visit.

My whole family's spread between New Orleans and Pensacola; I grew up on the Gulf coast, was there for Camille in '69. I believe people got complacent; more so when Ivan did so much material damage but wasn't a catastrophe. Humans are stubborn critters; they'll rebuild New Orleans, just because it's there, and in a few years people will all but forget anything they might have learned from this event--provided there aren't more of the same coming down the road. With the climate changes we might only be seeing the beginning of some of Ma Earth cleansing herself.

Bah; I'm in a morose mood, ain't I?
