Howdy!

It's all up now. In edition to the regular printing of the Serenity Role Playing Game, we also now have available the Special Limited Edition and the d2 Gaming Dice (the latter for only 75 cents each).

http://www.dragonlance.com/store/

We will fill all orders that come by noon tomorrow (Wednesday 12:00 PM CDT) but all that come after will be held until Monday, September 26th, as the MWP staff will be out of the office attending Serenity-related events in California. Thanks everyone!

RPG Sighting!

I just picked up my copy @ Comic Book World in Florence KY. I think they had 8 copies left.

BRB, You have a strange attitude for a retailer. You are telling people not to come into your store till next week?!?! How do you stay in business!?!?

I'm not telling everyone to avoid the store until next week, just that their orders won't be processed until Monday! We are going to be out of town, and don't want to create false expectations with our customers.

Tomorrow we leave for sunny California, and we're very excited!

While comics-focused stores might order from Diamond, most hobby game stores order from one of many distributors. From my best information, they were shipping starting on Monday. We've already had several re-stocks from the distributors, so things are definitely moving!

Hump it. I decided to cancel my Amazon order and re-order it directly from you guys; just did that thing. Cost a bit more on this end, but I'll get it before Thanksgiving and it'll have those shiny autographs. Woo hoo!

I don't know what your problem is, but I bet it's hard to pronounce.

I picked up my copy yesterday (when my FLGS called to tell me my order was in I couldn't wait) and have been going through it ever since savouring every detail. I have a number of questions and comments, but this doesn't seem to be the thread/topic for them. Is there an official Serenity RPG Q&A thread/topic/forum/webpage I could post them to?

Why isn't this the thread? So far, this is the best and most complete thread I have found for the game online. I say post away, so that the rest of us have a chance of either asnswering the question or it perhaps will illuminate something for us, too, once answered! The worst thing that could happen would for you to be ignored.... which I doubt will happen.

Okay, you asked for it Vlad. I got a very good response to these questions on the Browncoats Forum from Chris Thrash, the Traveller ship's guru who did the first draft of chapter 4, but of course any input or discussion is welcome. (See http://browncoats.serenitymovie.com/serenity/index.html?fuseaction=for
um.viewtopic&p=357139#356574
for details.)

I just got my copy yesterday, and I already have a few questions and comments. First, the comments:

1. Very good! I like it a lot.
2. Beautiful artwork.

Now the questions. (Mostly about ship design.)

1. Ship tonnage seems to be in "Register tons" (units of 100 cubic feet). Is this correct? In general, what units of measure are commonly used in the 'Verse?
2. Will deckplans be published on gaming scale (i.e. 1 inch=10 feet)?
3. How is "maximum deck load" determined? Does this represent the maximum "lift load" of the ship? How is a ship's external cargo load determined?
4. Is Aces amd Eights a one-of-a-kind boat, or was it customized from a standard midrange transport class?
5. I realize that all short range shuttles would have the same general characteristics, but are they required to all have the same specific hull design so they can fit in standardized conformal shuttle bays? More specifically, are the shuttles used by Firefly-class ships still in production? Or has Inara's shuttle "seen better days" too?
6. What are the exact dimensions of Serenity's main cargo hold? And the main cargo airlock door? (These place certain limitations on the size and shape of cargo that can be carried.)
7. Do the passenger dorms on Serenity overlap each other, or are they on the same level?
8. Standard 40 foot cargo containers are mentioned several times in the book, but their height, width and maximum tare weight aren't mentioned. Are they the same as current ISO standards, and if not what are they?
[/list]

Expiring minds want to know.

I don't mean to complain but Mr Chambers commented back on the 15th that the rpg page was going to be up early next week and it's now the 27th and it's still not up. I know they went to California this past weekend but am still anxious to see more about the game.

As far as we know, they are still awaiting permission from some very idle OR extremely busy folk at Universal to approve stuff like pictures so the site can go live. It's there], waiting to go, we just can't see it till the green light is given.

*shrugs* Because the questions got asked there, not here, so that's where the answers are. You'd be better off skipping over to the 'Versal Board, I suspect, and keep an eye on both spots...

Licensing is always an interesting challenge, and it requires things to be done on both sides. We are working to get the site up, but certain things require approval. Until then, I'll try to work the boards and get answers to everyone's questions up as best I can!

Thanks for your patience, everyone.

Got the book, very sweet! Now I just need some players. But meanwhile, I've just been enjoying making characters. Like Meria Browning, the bionic shepherd!
...yeah. Maybe I shouldn't have shared that.
Anyway, all in all, very shiny book. I'm curious about the various factions, like the tongs and such, and where they came from?

I came home late last night and my game was sitting on the desk. Quick look thru and was most impressed. Looking forward to checking it out today.

One advantage this thread has is that I can view it from work.

Perhaps someonw should compose a FAQ and post in on both forums.

Okay, two things:

One, www.serenityrpg.com is showing signs of waking up at last! The current page is just a rehash of the MWP news page, but I expect more will come very soon.

Secondly, there's an interview with Tracy Hickman over at GamingReport.com that touches on the RPG.

http://www.gamingreport.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Sections&file=
index&req=viewarticle&artid=162

And now, to quote from it....

WT: I have gathered from my other sources, that you are working on an adventure for the recently released Serenity Role Playing Game. Can you give some insight to the nature of the mission planned?

TH: I am very excited about this adventure! My grandmother use to tell us stories about the old mining town where her father had a store. All the characters in the town – the gunfights – the saloons – and the stories of what they did there. I grew up on those stories of that western boomtown and now, in Serenity, have the chance to make them come to life in Joss Whedon’s incredible ‘Verse. I’m even gone to the trouble of using everything from modern topographic/photo recon images of the ghost town site and first-hand accounts to original archival maps of the mine itself from 1865 in recreating the town. As to the adventure itself; it tells the tale of things lost during the Unification War, what people are willing to do to find what shouldn’t be found and the question of what to do when there’s too much law. And, of course, there’s the question of why Saffron – Captain Reynold’s ‘wife’ – is the school marm in this town.

WT: Who else is working on the adventure with you?

TH: Laura is working on this with me. We originally started writing adventures together back in the 1970’s so this is rather nostalgic for us both in many ways.

WT: What sort of art will appear in the module and who is working on it? Will the images be predominately full color or gray scale?

TH: That is a production issue which Margaret Weis Productions would be in a better position to answer than I would. I can tell you that I’ll be using Sean Kennedy’s Lightwave model of Serenity and photo-realistic renders in my concept work. Whether they appear in the module will be entirely up to MWP. What I do know is that Margaret and her crew produce the finest product out there – and the Serenity RPG beats any other game out there.

You created a serenity character generation cheat sheet and I was wonderin if I might get a copy of that. It would help out tremendously with my gamers in my campaign. Email it To volderes@aol.com and much thanks.
