LITWOLF689

Saw this posted on the Official Movie board and just had to post the same thing here.

Ill start:

I am completely obsessed with wolves. One day, I played a game with my brother on the computer and I wanted my name to be Little Wolf. It was too long so I shortened it to Litwolf. The numbers are my birth day and year.

Many people who know me really well think the 'Lit' stands for 'literary' because I love to read but its just short for Little Wolf.

What about you?

NEEDY

The road to Hel is paved with good intentions

Neat post

I'd love to come up with a great explanation for my screenname... but I haven't got one. Put simply, I chose "Needy" because its the name I go by at other forums - and I like to keep things simple for me

Although, the name Needsalt(of which Needy is short for, and which I go by at the official board) stems from the tv show First Wave. It was somewhat of a staple of the show because salt came in handy against the alien foes who just couldn't handle it. Though, to be honest, I chose needsalt because I was trying to prove to myself (after trying so many different usernames whilst registering at Delphi forums and being told all were taken), that I wouldn't be able to be accepted with the most obscure name. Turns out I was wrong

Still, I gotta say, considering my position on my crew's ship is Male Companion, Needy is quite an appropriate nickname

Needy. Male Companion a.k.a. First Boy Whore of Destiny

PIFFLE101

I love whenever Willow or Spike says Piffle in Buffy.
But Piffle means nonsense and I just added 101 just in case anyone else had it. But no one did. So it's pretty much nonsense 101..lol Which makes absolutley NO SENSE! Which is pretty much whatever comes out of my mouth.

There ya have it.

As kind of a play on bad movie (Reefer Madness) and yet is applicable to the show.

STARPILOTGRAINGER

Star Pilot Grainger is the protagonist of a series of 6 short novels, written in the 70s, by SF Author Brian Stableford. They're sort of space opera/adventure/biological mysteries, for the most part.

He's a pilot of spacecraft who was marooned on an alien world, and while he was there, he was infected by an alien mind symbiote that was also stuck there. When he was rescued, he was saddled with a huge debt by a legal judgement on behalf of the corporation that wasted time and resources rescuing him (they were looking for something else and thought he was that). Grainger was interesting to me because he's cynical, sarcastic, fiercely independent, and messed up in a lot of ways, and yet he's almost a complete pacifist (I bought the first book because it was listed as an example of pacifist characters in science fiction), and the mental symbiote wants to improve and socialize him but he won't have any of it because he's stubborn.

I happened to be rereading a collection of all of them when I signed up here, and was thinking about roughly basing a character in a hypothetical Firefly based RPG on him at the time, so I chose that as my name.

DROCCULARI

Trying to remember a different user name depending on where I am makes my head spin, so this is one of a small handful of names I go with. In this case, it's the name of a character in a story I sketched out years ago but never wrote. I use other names from that story for low security passwords, so if I ever actually write it, I'm screwed.

SLAYER730

Mine's from Buffy, obviously. ("You know, the Slayer? Slayer comma the. Look it up.")

730 is a bit of prophecy that Faith spouts way back in "Graduation Day, pt. II". She says Buffy's "Little Miss Muffet counting down to the 7-3-0". In exactly 2 years from that season 3 finale (730 days), Buffy makes the ultimate sacrifice - killing herself to save the world in the season 5 finale "The Gift".

The series could have ended there...but I guess Joss had another 730 to go! ha ha ha

It's the shortened version of my usual screenname: Sunnydale_slayer730

HANITRADER

Funny, prior to coming to this thread I had just added a signature to my profile to shed a little light on the Bcoat name.

HaniTrader... Na shi shen-me yi-si!

It's homage to sci-fi author C.J. Cherryh and her series of books revolving around House Chanur. They are a species of roughly felinoid folk that are nieghbors to other folk/spiecies. These stories follow the exploits of the Chanur clan free-traders. Only the women folk go spaceward and do business while the men folk stay at home (they're too unpredictable, labile, and spoiled). House Chanur breaks that trend by dragging a man-cat with them.

'Nuff said. Good series.

Dave.

AKUKODOGO

I am not too clever with names so I took the easy way out and used the names of my dogs, Aku and Kodogo, they are Black border collie kelpie cross, sisters. Aku Kodogo is a negro dancer that has worked in Australia. Kodogo means 'little one' in swahili. None of this is related to the Joss 'verse in any way, I just took the easy way out.

THEGREYJEDI

I'm a Star Wars fan. Grey is a pseudonym of mine, and one of my favorite colors. My personal philosophy is at odds with the Jedi philosophy (a man can draw strength from passion and emotion, so he need not deny it, even to maintain control and center.) but I fight the Good Fight. I am certainly no Sith, but Dark Jedi has been made synonymous with Sith, so can't go about using that. Hence The Grey Jedi. Even though that philosophy actually fights for the White more so than do regular Jedi who abhor absolutes. To much relativism in the Jedi for me.

Boy that was long-winded, weren't it.

OURMRREYNOLDS

I love Saffron but am a guy, so I adapted the title of her first episode. The actual funny part is when people's brains automatically put in the "s" that they "know" should be there. For a confirmed hetro male, I sure deal with a lot of gender confusion on this board. I never changed it because the exchanges with confused people are inevitably high-larious. For me. They just get embarassed most of the time.

THESOMNAMBULIST

Mine I chose from the 1929 Expressionist film:

The Cabinet of Dr Caligari although of course most folks think it's from Angel and the episode where he sleeps in alot and has dreams of Darla.

But it isn't.

In the film, The Dr has a Sleepwalker or Somnambulist who he has trained to rise up and wonder about attacking people and killing them... sorta. Anyway I love the film for it's stylised look. It's one of my favourite Silent films.

It's derived from Latin: Somnus - to sleep Ambulat - to walk...

Simple really :)

Cheers

Which is kinda what I am, instead of selling my soul to a single cab company, I paid for all my licenses and permits out of my own pocket, and have the little stick-on magnetic plates for the city permits.

I can drive any cab, for any company, anywhere in this state, any time I want, so long as they agree to the terms of the days contract and have a free cab available.

These days tho, thinkin about retiring because the price of fuel has driven the profit right out of what I do... I kid you not, some fast food employees now make more take-home pay than I do.

BUBBLEOFEARTH

A quote from Flora Thompson's Lark Rise at the beginning of John Crowley's book Little, Big (which is amazing).

---A little later, remembering man's earthly origin, "dust thou art, and to dust thou shalt return," they liked to fancy themselves bubbles of earth. When alone in the fields with no one to see them, they would hop, skip, and jump, touching the ground as lightly as possible and crying, "We are bubbles of earth! Bubbles of earth! Bubbles of earth!"---

It makes me well up all hopeful and sad at the same time, and nobody ever seems to have it on other boards. (Once someone saw it & knew right away what it was from... he was so excited to find someone who'd read Little, Big, we became fast friends right there & then.)

I started thinking of everything related to Firefly. The first word that popped into my head was 'Cosmic', although, it seemed too short. :(

One of my favourite characters on the show is River.

I'm a big baseball fan and softball player. And also, my brother is CallMeAth and he convinced me to come here after he hooked me on the show and I couldn't think of anything clever, and for crying out loud my name IS Serenity, so it just made sense to use his CallMe and add my name after. Kind of like a surname. In China, the surname comes first.

But I get called "Call" or "CallMe" sometimes, and once someone asked if I was a "CallGirl" or a "CallBoy" which I did not fine humourous.

ANFA

Mine means 'storm' in Irish. I took it from the Keltaid series of books by Patricia Keneally Morrison that I fell in love with years ago. The Queen, Aeron, was nicknamed Aeron Anfa because of her way of ruling and her capacity for swift vengence upon her enemies.

Let's just say there are times I see similarities between us . . .

HJERMSTED

When I was a teen, I thought up an "alias" with a fake Scandinavian sounding name: Ned Hjermsted. I thought I was being clever, but it turns out Hjermsted is an actual last name (at least in Denmark).

Pronouncing it the Danish way... the J is silent and the D at the end sounds like a very hard L.

Hjermsted has just sort of stuck around all these years and I still use it particularly when someone else has already claimed the handle "mattro" on a board or service.

"Hjermsted" does have a nice outer planet ring to it, wouldn't you say? A moon colonized by descendants of northern Europe perhaps? or the name of their settlement?
