So which should one see first?
We are 1/3 way through the tv series so far.
Should we finish it before seeing the film?

Also, (being a forum newbie who hasn't gone searching yet) is the film a refilming of the series, or is it an extension of the series or a bit of both?

Thanks for you help.

Demon Rob.

hey Rob,
welcome.
The movie stands alone as a solid piece of work. The series will add greater depth and character understanding if you watch them but is not essential to fully enjoy the film. Keep watching the series though. If you time it just right, you can watch the last episode and then go see the movie right afterwards! lol The movie's great. I've seen it 2 times already and have another free screening to go to tomorrow night! Then I'm going to an all-day viewing party on Fri to drive up opening weekend box office dollars. Woo hoo! Welcome to your new addiction.

4 days, 9 episodes, yeah we can finish the series before the film!

so does the film start at the same point as the tv show, retelling the initial pickup, and then goes off into its own adventures different to the tv show?

I've not seen it yet, but my understanding is that the film picks up 6 months after the series ended.

Correct...
6 months after series ends. Joss does a really cool thing to explain setting and past events at the very beginning of the film but I won't spoil anything...

There's also a comic series that connects the T.V. show to the Movies. If you don't have it available, e-mail me at rhonis@gmail.com and I can fill you in.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

It depends on whether you are watching Firefly on the dvds or on the Sci-Fi Channel. If dvd, by all means try to watch them all, along with all the special features, before seeing the movie. Unfortunately it will be November before SFC gets to the last episode, "Objects in Space," and we need lots of tickets sold in the first two weeks to reassure Universal they made the right decision.
