Post subject: We few, we happy few...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well boys and girls and boys dressed as girls and girls dressed as Kaylee, the time is almost upon us. This Friday we take that old rust-bucket out of the shipyard and see if she can breach atmo. It's been a long (to paraphrase a band I like) strange trip, and it'll be nice finally to show everybody what it is we've been tinkering with all this time. You already know you have my thanks, from the hardcore fans to the softcore... fans.... let me try that again. From the people manning the booths, buying DVD sets for their friends, getting banners seen everywhere on Australian TV, raffling artwork for ticketholders (Adam Hughes, take a bow), to the most casual fan who just wants to see the flick and won't ever even read this. You guys are the fuel in the engine, the Fire in the Fly, the weird green stuff coming out of Serenity's butt. (Hmmm. Forget that last one. I'm a little bit out of control here.)

Everyone needs something to keep them going. Mal has his ship. Zoe has her integrity. Jayne has Vera. And I've got you guys.

So what now? There have been so many posts about seeing it, seeing it again, the first weekend, the second weekend, being enthusiastic without being obnoxious (and yes, it IS hard to see over the pom-pom of a Jayne hat), buying tickets in advance, making a noise... I honestly wouldn't know what to add. I can tell you this: the movie will play in about 2200 hundred theaters, which is a good number. Too many, and you get empty theaters with no energy -- not enough, and you get, well, not enough. It may be hard to find in some areas but it'll be out there. Leave no multiplex unturned! This is going to be a ground war, peeps -- we have to hold the valley for a long while. However it opens, it needs to HOLD. Instead of the Alliance we'll be fighting viewer apathy, fear of something new, the urge to wait for DVD, and Jessica Alba in a bikini. (Although I have it on good authority that she spends 90% of the film in a huge wooly parka. Make sure that gets out.)

The day this puppy opens, I'll be seeing it with my family (don't worry, there's a lot of them, and they're all paying) and then I'm off to Europe to learn the word 'Browncoats' in nine different languages -- 'cause like I said, it's all about holding. I'll never be far from a computer, though, so I can check in with y'all. Thanks for every damn thing.

And remember, amidst all the urgency to make this an event, all the work and the worry, to take two hours and just enjoy yourself. That is, after all, what all this fighting's about.

-joss.

Three days to go, and I'm still dancing the happy litle rat dance of joy!

Heard a Radio spot ad today that emphasized how many people have already seen the BDM at previews ("Some traveling hundreds of miles...)

And checking Fandango yesterday I noticed something funny. Most theaters haven't posted their schedules for 9/30 yet, but the high-end Century Theaters in San Jose have posted a partial schedule, to wit: The showing times for Serenity -- and nothing else!

Can't 'ya just see it: "The phones been ringing off the hook all day boss, all of them wanting to know if we're showing this Serenity flick. Can I post that part of the schedule in advance, so we can get some work done?"

BUBBLEOFEARTH

Hail, Joss!

After seeing it last night, I can't imagine watching it over & over several times in a row like I usually do with the (fery few) movies I look forward to for months. Heck. It took the people in my car about 2 hours to unwind after the credits rolled.

Looks like I'll be spending my next few months to seeing it two or three times a week. Or more.

I can't wait for Friday.
Can't.

Joss: Just two hours? What'r'ya crazy? Let's see... Two hours on Friday. There's the whole Shindig (watching the series) with friends on Saturday ending with another viewing and then dinner, that's another nine hours or so, and then another two hours on the 9th to boost the second weekend sales...

See, I told you browncoats that Joss could deliver an inspiring speech just as good as Nathan.

Thanks for posting Joss, even if it wasn't here on FFF.net. You do remember were here right? Still fighting the good fight.

Don't worry about us. We'll do our part. Browncoats don't know the meaning of the word quit. I think our track record attests to that fact. We will do all we can to pack those theatres. We are still out here converting the uninitiated, loaning those DVDs, manning tables at Cons, and hanging fliers to promote the BDM. Seems the least we can do after all you, 'Versal & the cast have done for us.

Keep Flyin' Joss, and good luck on the "Browncoat" in nine languages thing!

First, the obligatory, "Joss, you have my undying respect, and I will shamelessly promote your movie wherever I go, I promise."

Now, the comment I'm responding to.
RE: Cooperation from Theater Staff

When I went to purchase my "Serenity" tickets, the manager of my local multiplex said, "Hey didn't I talk to you yesterday?" and I admitted calling for the schedule. Then I handed her today's newspaper, showed her an article about "Serenity" and told her how big a phenomenon this film was going to be.

She admired my enthusiasm so much that she told the cashier dude to give me TWO complimentary "Serenity" tickets (to go with the fourteen others I was buying for Friday). So yay Theater Managers supporting the Browncoats! I talked up the movie to the cashier dude, too, and he said, "Wow, I'm going to make sure to watch that one, it sounds great."

Don't underestimate the influence of movie theater personnel, my friends.

Joss, if you see this, I am very pleased and excited for you getting your dream of bringing back your show in whatever form, to fruition and good for you. I am very new to the fandom, my coat has been turning brown, and I think I am getting a crush on Nathan :smile. Your show was recommended to me by 2 friends who saw it the first time round. One person, a woman named Lana Merkel, is just over the moon about it,, she is very sick all the time, it is hard for her and she can't even make it to the theater, she is going to have to wait for the DVD. Anyway, I know what it is like to have shows cancelled, us B5ers lost our " Crusade" to TNT interference, and we had just about the same amount of shows as " Firefly". I also fought hard for Alien Nation a show that was in the 89-90 season on Fox. So it is a miracle you guys got this done and to all I say hurrah! Good for you. I just wish you hadn't well, you know the spoilers, and that will be tough. All the best to you Joss, and I hope things go so well there will be more to come. Good for all the loyal fans out there too, I am glad for you as well.

I'm now a huge Firefly fan as you guys, but I'm sorry I won't be dragging and pressuring my friends into seeing the movie. None of them are really into Scifi or even tv series. So sorry I won't be helping out as much as others, but I'm going to see it for sure. More than once? Maybe... I don't usually see a movie a 2nd time in theatres. Not unless I'm on a date...

Anyways I can't wait for the movie. I just hope it will be playing here on Friday. Usually movies play at one of the two movie theatres here the day the movie comes out, but some times not.

What I'd like to find out from Joss is will he continue with the show on Scifi (or another channel) after the movie? Nathan and the "Whore" (cant remember her name. lol) said on "Attack of the Show" they would want to do that.
