Alright Browncoats, I don't much like that 22% rating on the "will be ignored" answer even if almost half voted for the "now" option. C'mon, we independents can do better than that!

Heck, what about our own new poll on this very Website? Over 50% seem to think this movie will do worse than average for the season. That's all fine and good, but I wish these people had a little optimism and rah rah on their own site.

I'm going to ignore other people's opinions for the next few days and try to keep my own energy high. I'm organizing tickets, dressing up, and seeing the BDM as many times as I can tolerate, and I hope to surround myself with browncoats who will enjoy the movie with an open mind.

Firefly will not come back as a series, in fact I doubt there will be a Serenity 2. Joss killed it. I won't give any spoilers but Joss ruined any future for Firefly.

honestly...I don't think anything to do with Serenity on Slashdot is a good thing...the Slashdot community, by and large, is full of alot of hateful bored people...theirs isn't the attention we want.

And Joss did NOT ruin Firefly with Serenity. I know exactly what you're talking about and you're 100% wrong. Joss just made it real. word.

I do find the joke 'Serenity? Is that a new brand of dependable diapers?' funny. That's all. Yes, I'm sure that site is very much like the commenters on Movie Poopshoot in jay and silent bob strikes back...not to confuse it with the actual site.

I say, let's get a bunch of plane tickets to give to Joss so he can kick some ass lol.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Well said Saint Jayne!

I don't know why so many browncoats are not expecting the movie to do better in the opening weekend as reflected in the poll on this site. I for one am very optimistic. If we keep a postive attitude and get out there and promote the ruttin' hell out of the BDM it WILL have a tremendous impact! We have made a difference in getting the show brought to the big screen, we can do it again by doing all we can to make it a success.

I know nothing about these people, but they look a little cynical.
Only 830 out of 1827 chose the best option so far.

That said, this was a gorram amazing movie, and I don't give a fig what any polls anywhere say. The people I saw it with, fans & newbies alike, left the theatre satisfied.
Satisfied & shaking.

wow, Mithel, I doubt it.

having seen the movie as well, and having been party to Joss's style for a while, Firefly/Serenity marches on. The first rule of Joss: nothing is sacred but the story.

Sure Inire, Joss and Serenity may march on... just with a lot less fans. And exactly because of that... "nothing is sacred"... sigh... I'm sure there are people that liked crap like "Sin City" too. Just not my family, and several of my friends that have also expressed dismay that Joss released a movie that ruined the fantastic magic that was Firefly.

the magic of Firefly is that a great story is told while Big Things happen all around our BDHs. Big Things IRL are rarely predictable or even necessarily pleasant, but they shape our lives regardless and allow us to see the 'verse (RL or not) for what it is; big, gorgeous and not always on our side.

So IIMO, 'll agree to disagree. what happens in Serenity makes the story stronger, and highlights the fact that at its base Firefly/Serenity is a drama. not a fairytale.

for you.

Please keep in mind a couple of things:
1) Other people absolutely enjoy the reality that Joss creates. They like their Sci Fi to be less Trek and more "real".
2) There are a lot of people in the world who were not exposed to Firefly, but who will absolutely love Serenity. Probably more so than there will be Browncoats who leave the fanbase in despair over the movie.

I am sorry you feel that way, but I definitely think your opinion is valid. I don't personally agree, but you have every right to feel that way.

Dancing around the details to avoid spoilers makes it tough to discuss this.

I absolutely agree that the "real" factor is exactly what makes Firefly so fantastic. Far better than Star Trek, Star Wars, SG-1, Atlantis, BSG, etc. But keeping a "real" verse could easily have been done a different way that would not have upset so many fans.

There will be some new people that will like Serenity. But in my opinion any newbie that watched Serenity will see just "another action flick", they won't understand so many little details that make the interactions between Mal and Inara, Simon and Kaylee, etc, etc... so special.

I can understand that to some degree, but for me plot progression does not equal 'suckyness'.

stagnation = suckyness

Joss tends not to = stagnation.

therefore, joss's writing does not = 'suckyness'.

YMMV, and I plan on seeing the movie with its ever-so-highs and OMG-lows over and over again, and apparently so does my little band o' 'Coats down here in Tucson.

And I can't wait for the sequel; FWIW, can you say 'flashback'? With same, nobody is ever truly gone from a story

edit/add: if it helps, this seems to sum up the situation pretty well. ONLY for the ones who have seen the movie already: IMPLIED SPOILERS.... http://www.aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=21407
