Alright, so I get to the theater (Carmike Cinemas Wynnsong 11 in Savannah, Georgia) early. My mother is a convert as well. Besides us, there was one other car in the parking lot. It was 1:00. Serenity's first showing was at 1:30, the others at 4:10, 7:30, and 9:40. The girl at the ticket window knew me from my job (and one of the theater managers is a Browncoat) and said, "I thought you'd be here." I smiled and said, "You could have placed a bet. Might have made some money." I'd already gotten my tickets yesterday so I bought a ticket for the 4:10 showing.

So popcorn in hand, we enter Theater 5. Not too large of a theater. I think it's the second largest screen they have. I see a girl with a knitted purse and a ball cap on. She's covered in pins with the movie's logo. Slowly but surely this small theater filled up halfway! At least 30-40 people! One guy even made a funny as he walked in, yelling: "Do you think there's THIS many people seeing The Greatest Game Ever Played, which is on their biggest screen?!"

The crowd ate it up. Two of my co-workers showed up unexpectedly, one of them had only seen the show sporadically and she loved the movie. So I go outside and chat for a bit, and run into an acquaintance I see from time to time at work. He works at Media Play and he was there to see the 4:10 showing.

I head into the theater and approach the ticket tearer. He rips it and says, "Theater 6, straight ahead." I pause. Did he just say Theater 6?!

Browncoats, they'd moved our BDM from a small screen to the biggest damn one in the city, forsaking The Greatest Game Ever Played! Theater 6 has at least 400-500 seats! I spoke with my friend when I got in there. It appears a manager had popped his head in to Theater 5 and said, "What would you all say if I told you we're moving the film to Theater 6?" After it was over, my friend said, "I didn't like it." He was so deadpan when he said, it he threw me for a sec. He loved it as well.

As for the film I'll post my thoughts in a separate thread. Suffice it to say Joss knocked this one out of the ballpark, past the parking lot, and into someone's front yard.

Sorry if this rambled. Does anyone else have any stories to tell? I'm anxious to hear them. Have a great weekend folks. I'll be back at the theater tomorrow afternoon for two more showings.

Ha that's great news!

Well I've heard one story, but not a good one! To quote the person directly:

"The movie was awesome; however, the movie theater got the movie messed up! An important part about 2/3 of the way through, when the secret and reason they were being chased was being explained was cut out and then put back in after a section. Then they finished the movie out. It was so weird, 'cause it almost looked like a flash back where they put it. Anyway, we got 2 free movie tickets, tho we had to give them our stubs to get them (which I collect)."

Hope that doesn't happen elsewhere!

But I've also heard of showings being sold out, so all seems good so far...

I'm pretty sure the screen was bigger. I know for a fact that the arena was larger than when I went to the early screenings.
