Off the top, I can't think of a movie I've ever seen that I like better than Serenity.
A few equals come to mind...
Blade Runner
Planet of the Apes (original)
The Empire Strikes Back
Aliens
Raiders of the Lost Arc
Star Trek The Motion Picture
(sorry, die-hard Trekkie here)

I'm sure there may be more, but absolutly NONE that I like BETTER the our BDM.

Joss should be proud, first feature he directed, and up there with the greatest!!!

Can anyone think of a better flick than Serenity???

LOTR trilogy. Fight Club. Empire Strikes Back. Yojimbo. All better (not including the ones you mentioned apart from Empire which has yet to be beaten).

First off, I love Serenity, but since you ask; off the top of my head...

Better than:
Orson Welles: Citizen Kane
Jean Renoir: The Grand Illusion, The Human Beast, The Rules of the Game, The River
Akira Kurosawa: Seven Samurai, Rashomon, The Hidden Fortress.
John Ford: The Searchers
Sergio Leone: The Good, The Bad, The Ugly
Just about anything by Hayao Miyazaki, but most especially, Princess Mononoki. (which I think is a contender for best movie ever made)

As good as:
Pulp Fiction
Kill Bill
Dark City
Excalibur
Big Trouble in Little China
Bubba Ho-Tep

Serenity is the best movie I've seen in current release, but then I haven't yet seen, A History of Violence, Neil Gaiman's MirrorMask, or Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit

Can I ask, what do you think it is about Princess Mononoke that makes it so stellar?

Tks,

The more I see Serenity the more highly it rates in my opinion. But I have to credit a lot of that to the TV series and the fact that I have met most of the cast and crew.

On its own merit I have to go with Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope. Every showing just seems so fresh and gives me that buzz that makes me love the medium of film so much.

My other favourite films aren't as safe though due to the fact that Firefly/Serenity holds such a place in my heart.

There are very few action/adventure films that rival Serenity (IMO).

It had that great combination of action, humor, plot and fantastic characters that is quite scarce these days.

I fancy myself as something of a cineaste – black & white to color, foreign to domestic - but in all my experience with film and television I have never come across something so brilliantly poignant and profoundly moving as Firefly and Serenity. Personally, it is my favorite film of all time.

Part of this is to prove my "street cred," but I should really admit that I don't have to prove anything. But, just so's no one thinks I'm a complete backbirth of a fanboy. . .here's my entirely subjective top 10:

1. Serenity
2. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
3. The Lord of the Rings
4. The Big Lebowski
5. Brazil
6. Pulp Fiction
7. Blade Runner
8. Casablanca
9. Rushmore
10. Goodfellas

Honorable mentions, in no particular order, include Fight Club, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Ran, Chinatown, The Maltese Falcon, Dawn of the Dead, Edward Scissorhands, Léon, Dr. Strangelove, or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb, Before Sunrise, Memento, The Godfather: Parts I & II, Rashomon, etc. . .
