hey sprite

yup its usually said that the opening ceremony is 6pm, which makes it nearer 7pm in sean harry time.

the reg desk should still be open, failing that make some friends first, and send someone your ticket to pick up your reg pack and con badge, so that its all done for when you arrive.

if you can get the saturday off, then definately come. its so worth it.

you can always find me at cantstopthesignal@hotmail.com

Miss CMS,

your box of treats came back to me today, after being squished by evil squished peoples.

so i binned all crapola and bought new stuffs. and have reposted it with fragile parcel tape all over the box.

the postage costs more than the contents.

so hopefully it should arrive to you non squished

Are you serious? The evil squished peoples squished it? If I ever get my hands on them...

I'm thinking the British postal system must be far worse than ours. I don't get things returned squished very often. Mostly torn apart and muddy, but hardly ever squished!

And of course, unless you insured it, you won't get your money back. And who'd insure a box of sweets? Gorram evil squished peoples!

I'm so sorry!

The new box I'm sending you has a bit more room, so I think I'm going to have to fill it up with a few extra special treats.

Aah... you got the 2 CD ambient relaxing type music thing, did you? The one released in Sept 1999?

I got that frickin' thing too. Sent it back, got me a refund.

Gorram Amazon needs to sort that listing out pronto!

Yes that I did! Stupid wallys! I order the visual companion, the novalisation and the soundtrack but nooo no one puts two and two together and thinks "she probably doesn't want relaxing type music"!

Has that Edmonson Firefly soundtrack come out yet, or is it still on pre-order? Anyone?

Aaah... just read Joss' Universal board post - he's such a sweet man. Am feeling all warm and fuzzy and fanboyish inside.
Hope this doesn't wear off soon, because it's distracting me from the cold! The rain's gone, yay, but no overcast means friggin' cold nights. How are you folks faring south of the border?

Coincidentally it's Friday night, so I might hit a few pubs and get me drunk. Anyone else up for a few to start off the night / wind down after a long week?

Does any of the Brit contingent remember the series Last Train? It was about survivors after a meteor hits the Earth and ends civilisation as we know it if it helps jar anyones memories.

It's quite old, was on TV in 1999...

I just caught the last half hour of one episode on Sci-fi and it just occurs to me that I never saw the first or last episodes...

I do remember it! Mainly because the woman who was carrying the freezy stuff, who knew the old guy in the secret hideout place, is now in Spooks.

I seem to recall it was quite good.

No, no, I'm far too stupid to actually be taught anything. I'm kind of like Jayne in that regard.

Still, I get to look for some authentic Indian outfits for the costume night. Well, all right Australia/India are not quite the same thing but it's still closer than the UK (just). And it's all Asiaish.

e-bay is the place for Asian stuff - that and the Asian parts of whichever town you dwell in. On e-bay search for shalwar kameez (in the male section or you will end up with the female shalwars kameez - maybe you like that though *ponders ponderously*)

To be strictly authentic though shalwar kameez are more Pakistan than India (for girls anyway). Bollywood is more sari. I've got a groovy shalwar kameez though with purply sparkley bits.

A shalwar kameez is a long tunic (the kameez) with a pair of floaty trousers (shalwar). Often the female version comes with a dupatta which is a long scarf type thing. They are usually loose fitting and made from floaty material but can be very tight and/or heavy material.

Of course (disclaimer alert) I am no expert so if I am wrong you may suitably chastise me.

Domino appears to be another of those "some say good, some say awful" movies. Considering the opinions I've heard of Serenity I tend to take what other people say with a bucket of salt these days.

I don't think I care enough about it to see it to find out for myself. I imagine there are lots of Dominots (or whatever die-hard Domino fans are called) who hate me now

On the other hand, I'll be seeing Nightwatch later this week.

For me it depends on who's doing the accent-ing.

So, Friday after work I'm about to drive home, and my car's muffler decides to come loose from the pipe where it belongs; casualty of the excessive salting of the roads we do here. As a consequence, on Saturday we take my wife's car for some errands. When attempting to start it for driving home: nothing. Not even a click. Fortunately hers has a standard transmission so we push start it and get it home. *sigh*

That much bad luck in one place has to attract balancing forces. Someone was able to fix up mine on Saturday afternoon, and my wife's was all fixed up this morning. What a weekend. We're now shopping in earnest for a new car, having done the frugal drive-til-it-drops for what seems to have become a silly length of time.

You still haven't seen it yet?!? And your friends keep crying off?!?

These are serious problems.

I've seen it twice now by my self. I figure it's better to be in the theater than not, right?
So, go, even if you have to go alone.

Sometimes alone is better, then you don't run the risk of having one of your friends constantly whispering in your ear asking you what's going on or "What'd he say?" or other very annoying things.

And then, as to your friends who keep buggering off, are you sure you don't need some new ones? They sound unreliable to me.

Do you not live close enough to any Randomites?
I'd go with you, but, well, that's one HECK of a commute.

Can't help you with the bank issue, though. Banks are evil.

Why is it that mitigating circumstances are never good? Maybe it's all explained if you know what the word 'mitigating' means. Maybe I'll shut up now and head off to find my dictionary and some After Eights that I'm sure I've seen lying around the place.

On a plus note. Going to the cinema by yourself ain't so bad. It's dark in there, no-one can tell!
