DREAMTROVE

It has struck me in the last few years that strategy is a major problem. Most web businesses, real businesses and political campaigns are severely lacking in strategy. They have no shortage of ideas for products, policies or potential applications of their success, but they lack a fundemental plan for getting there.

Mainly, they lack a way to keep the audience, be they customers, voters or fans, alive.

So, what we need is a lot of good strategies for keeping the fanbase alive.

Here are some to start with:

1. RPGs. If firefly was being run as an RPG in gamestores all across the country and online, it would keep a number of followers interested.

2. Fan fic, which I haven't read, but see is here. Contests, competition, and some regular serials keep readers interested and writers submitting.

3. A few well focused forum topics staying alive with particular interests. Like Percephany, a whole forum devoted to discussion particular issues related to that planet, or whatever people think will work.

I'm posting this principally because I am lying here with pneumonia posting on boards, but soon I will get better, bored, and go back to work.

So will many other people as the BDM fades into the past. But it will take Joss a year get Serenity flying again, so we will need to bide our time.

I'm willing to spend a few hours a week. I won't have a whole lot of free time, but if we can do something serious here.

EMBERS

Dreamtrove: sorry you're sick,
I hope you are better soon!

And may I say that you are only worried about the future of this fandom because you only recently arrived...
believe me, there was a long dry stretch after the TV show was canceled Dec 2002,
while we knew Joss was knocking on doors, trying to find a home for 'Firefly'

but we didn't lose hope, we campaigned for the DVDs

Universal agreed to a movie Sept 2003
the DVDs came out Dec 2003
and of course this site grew in leaps & bounds!

During the filming there were people from this site who managed to get on set as extras...
they came back & told stories

And Joss & the cast appeared at SanDiego's comic book convention (videos are available online)

We were cast down when the release date was pushed back from April 2005
and Haken had to add all those months to the countdown....

January 2005 were the first previews and a lot of Browncoats got in...
Then there were more Advanced previews....

and this site kept growing!

So we aren't worried, we'll have a bright future with DVDs, comic books, and sooner or later there will be a sequel (Joss has it written in his head, it has to come out)...
I'm figuring it might be a whole year before Universal decides that all in all enough money was generated and a sequel can be made.
And then the cycle will begin again...with the angst over who's in the movie,
and the glee when a fan gets on set....

you see where I'm going with this, I've made it a VERY long story. So don't worry, read some fanfic, and enjoy all the goodies that have come out with this movie already (have you READ the Visual Companion? It is amazing)

Viral or bacterial? Yuck. *flings pixel petunias* Be well soon.

Now I see why you have time for bug related research, very nice. The results after the first over: Earwigs 1, Butterflies 102

While you are out there researching, check out deep breathing exercises. Might help with pneumonia recovery.

Why isn't there a line of novels out yet? The Buffyverse has 'em, as does X-Files, Star Trek, etc. Heck, even Starcraft, Warcraft and Diablo have them. We need a series of Firefly novels.

I'm fairly new here so, pardon my ignorance if this has been addressed previously.

How about shiny new jackets for everyone?

Leather bomber jackets with Serenity patches. Yeah, with matching Jayne hats and aviator glasses.

I have alot of ideas but you limited the discussion with your desire to keep the fanbase alive...if you wanted to go another direction with that, there's folk here that could probably come up with something.

I've got a feeling that I read somewhere that Joss intends there to be novels.
