Well I'm not going out this year, my kids are with their mum on halloween this year, but I was thinking of doing a Reaver job on my face, and being an ex welder I have lots of ripped and shreaded clothing.
Although I might just put my outback coat on and answer the door in that.

'If nothing else works, a total pig-headed unwillingness to look facts in the face will see us through.

As Kaylee. Found a very Kaylee-like flower long-sleeved shirt and just have to find a jump suit. No worries. Everything will turn out bright and shiny! ;-)

I won't be formally dressing up, but I will be wearing my Blue Sun shirt that day, and, if I go out, I'll be wearing my brown coat (bought before Firefly, but still).

fixedbyfaith & i discussed wearing our Kaylee & mal costumes for the Harvest party at church. We're supposed to be dressing up as heroes. I find it kind of funny actually. But it will be fun for the kids. Last year I went as MORK and all the kids thought I was a Power Ranger. Then pastor came up and asked if I was Captain Marvel Shazzam!

You bet, I'm working on a kickass (IMNSHO) Wash costume. I'm sort of going for a bridge 'tween the series and movie since the movie flightsuit and rubber vest are a little hard to do without lots of time. (I'm a real stickler for the little details.)

I've got a mil surplus flightsuit on the way (I'm even going to make replica patches,) a large personal collection of Hawaiian shirts to choose from, and will be buying a vest identical to the black one in the series (which will need to be painted black.) I found out it's a real military issue vest, and I even got some info from Shawna Trpcic, the costumer from the series!

The only thing I can't find are his shoes, which Shawna thinks were taken from Fox's rental department, and might have been used in the movie 'Aliens' since Wash's vest and some other firefly costume items were borrowed from the same area.

I'll probably upload some pics once I have it all together.

I am also going as Wash. Specifically from the series. I have the Hawaiian shirt, and some plastic dinosaurs. But the real thing that I went for is the hair. I dyed my hair to match his hair color exactly. But as for the rest, just jeans, my belt and slip-on shoes.

I actually gave the costume a test run on opening day, and I got some great responses to it.

XANDER: (baby-talk) Who's a little fear demon?
C'mon, who's a lit-tle fear demon?
GILES: Don't taunt the fear demon.
XANDER: Why? Can he hurt me?
GILES: No, it's just… tacky.

I'm dyeing my hair too, My hairstyle's pretty much the same, I'll just grow it a little shaggier than I wear it.

Hey, if you want an even more authentic series look, I found a seller on amazon.com that sells recycled worker's coveralls fairly cheap. If you search for 'coveralls' you should find them, their store/seller name is barebones, I think.

That was the hard decision for me, to wear coveralls like wash, or go the flightsuit route. Since he /does/ have the red flightsuit in the series though, I figured that a dark green military one would be 'thematic' enough as long as I have the vest and shirt too, since at least one pair of Wash's coveralls were dark green.

Anyone have any idea where to get a brown coat? I've looked in several department stores, leather shops and thrift stores with no luck. Ebay had some "official" ones, but havent seen them in a while.

try typing in "knee length duster" in google and look to see which one you want.

I believe thats the official name for that type of coat.

I have the blue Hawaiian Wash shirt. That in conjunction with jeans and I am shiny captin’. Wore the same thing out on opening day, but I don’t think anyone got it. Then again I’m *really* not in a big browncoat area.

Because I am an American. And what does an American want? Democracy? Capitalism. I want to sell out and settle down. For one day only, it's a blue light special on Aisle Three. My wormhole technology... and a free set of steak knives... for all the tea in China. And anything you can imagine to pay me... welcome to my cold war.

KAYLEEFRYE

I'm dressing up as Kaylee (big surprise). I made a jumpsuit with all the little patches, and I'm trying to get my hands on a blue coat like the one she wears in the pilot.

Sadly, no. I'm going as Misato Katsuragi, a character from a completely different SF series (Neon Genesis Evangelion). If I had the time and/or cash, though, I'd maybe go as either River (I have dark hair that can get pretty stringy/clumpy if I don't comb it after washing, and I'm kinda on the tiny side), or a Completely Random Browncoat, seeing as I got a Browncoat bracelet now (but, I would want to find a brown coat like Mal's, and I honestly don't think I could find an inexpensive one on such short notice... we do have a lot of thrift stores here, but good god, the amount of digging I'd have to do... I can't get enough time away from school or work to do it, probably). ;)

Of course, I may do two different costumes for Halloween, seeing as I have to hand out candy for a special event on the 29th, but we do get a handful of trick-or-treaters in our area on Halloween night. Maybe if I find a brown coat of the right kind in time, I'll be a Browncoat on Halloween night... I bet nobody will get it, but it'd be fun anyway.

I love costumes, though.

As un-poor browncoaty this is going to sound, I found my own Mal-ish coat at, of all places, Banana Republic. The details of the coat aren't perfect, but the color is spot on and the material is a good match for suede even close-up. The price is a bit prohibitive (250), but its better than the 500 that AbbyShot is requesting and the coat itself is stylish enough to wear to un-Firefly outings (but who goes to those anymore?)

Well, I went as a Blue Hand last year (in a last minute, patched-together outfit, may I add), but I'm not so sure what I'll do this year. Perhaps Wash. His seems to be the easiest. And I'm not exactly rolling in the cashy money.
