Okay so I think I was reading that Universal said $50 mil US or $80 mil worldwide would make enough for them to do a sequel...I think it's fair to say, however unfortunate, that it won't make $50 mil in the US with the loss of theaters this weekend. So, do we pin our hopes on drumming up publicity for the other countries that have yet to see "Serenity" and hope that it can do what "The Island" did (do relatively poorly in the US but make hundreds of millions internationally)? And, how do we do that? Universal's ad campaign in the US was for lack of a better word, crappy. Have they changed their techniques for the international ads?

Well, the obvious answer is to go see Serenity as many times as humanly possible. The other is to buy up Serenity DVDs when they release. We just gotta keep throwing cash at this thing.

I feel relatively confident that Serenity will do huge business in the Asian market, though.

good lord, i hope that's including DVD sales because that's a huge goal.

I'm a little curious about the French box office as they are just coming into school holidays and they may have heard of Serenity being number one in UK. Serenity missed school holidays in other markets. Will the Asian rollout be big? Will it be after the DVD is already out???

Oh and I forgot, keep telling your friends about the movie for its DVd release. Don't get too evangelical though, it turns people off. Invite friends over for a Firefly night or something, once you watch it its hard not to want to own the movie.

The school hols haven't made a difference in the UK (they start next week here) as its been given a 15 rating here and I BELIEVE will be receiving a similar rating in France...

At present Serenity has made over $30 million including UK and Australia. $80 is not an unachievable goal if it also includes DVD and movie right deals...

Hi GersWhere are you writing from? Is it the UK where holidays are on, have they started yet? I'm sure some under 15s will sneak in? No?

It only 15 plus in UK because of a headbut or two.

'Kingdom of Heaven' Becomes a Hit -- On DVD

Ridley Scott's Kingdom of Heaven, which reportedly cost $130 million to produce but earned only $47 million at the domestic box office, was the No. 1 movie in home-video sales and rentals last week, according to Nielsen's VideoScan. It replaced last week's chart-topping Cinderella from Disney's Buena Vista Home Entertainment.

I hope that the $80 million goal includes DVD's, if not it seems like a rather high goal for a movie without a "big name star" to pull people in. The advantage of no big name star though is that it only cost $39 million to make and so it will at least break even and make some kind of profit on top of that. I also agree with the above comments that the Asian market will do well as will DVD sales/rentals. I just keep hoping to hear that Universal's advertising has improved worldwide, I think that would really help.

West Yorkshire in the UK, Hols start on Monday here and in other parts of the country the week after and while I agree some 12+ will sneak in to see Serenity the rating does rather put an end to it as a family film look-see... I couldn't (wouldn't?) take my 10-year old to see it even though he loves Firefly.

Alright guys, I've got it. I know how we can save Serenity.

Now, I don't know about all of you guys, but I'm a huge geek (actually I do, cause well, it takes one to know one). Serenity/Firefly is a geek's wet dream.

Now, who is the King of the Geeks? That's right. Bill Gates. Richest man alive. I bet he has Serenity playing on a private screen in every room in his house. He can be squeezing out a tree trunk and watching the Reaver vs. Aliance battle for all he cares.

So Bill, Man the Hell Up. Buy about 10 million tickets and save Serenity. TO HELL with all the millions you give up for charity every year and donate your vast fortune to a worthwhile cause: Serenity.

Your subjects need you, Bill. Don't disappointment us.

Hahaha, I like that. I think Bill should just buy FOX and fire everyone for being complete idiots. Then we wouldn't have to worry about any more movies because the show will come back stronger than ever, creating a Firefly franchise worth billions.

*sigh* It's nice to dream. Bill Gates would rather release an OS expansion pack that nobody will like and put the rest of his money in his bank account so the 'richest man on Earth' keeps his title.
