Ok...I saw the movie, and i fell in love. Got the series, watched it in like 2 sittings. Its amazing, but how do we get from the end of the series, where river is on the boat - to the begining of the movie where she aint? what the heck is going on?!?!?!?!?!

The begining of the movie (the rescue) is a flashback to how Simon got her away from the Alliance. THAT part of the movie happened before the show. The rest happens after.

**SPOILERS FOR THE MOVIE**SPOILER ALERT***

Select to view spoiler:

the beginning of Serenity is confusing, on purpose...
you start off in River's dream about her teacher...
then you jump from the dream to River dreaming as she was being 'studied'/altered by the Academy scientists...
and the escape orchestrated by Simon,
which then turns out to be video tape being watched by the Operative:
it is all very disjointed because that is the way River's mind works - in fragments

Then during the title sequence you move onto Serenity where the film is darker, but all connected...one long slow shot that takes you from one crew member to the next and all through the ship: which shows that everyone on board are all connected, and depend upon one another (no matter if there is some disagreements), and the thing that binds them all together is Serenity herself.

It really is a lovely beginning to the film,

I hope you'll go see it again!

And it's confusing because the way River was rescued in the movie doesn't fit at all with how she was rescued in the show. This way is more exciting, I admit, so I have no problems with it, but I can see how it might confuse people.

Welcome!

Also, there's a six month gap between Objects in Space (the last episode of the series) and Serenity, which gives the crew time to adjust to River's telepathicness (which is now a word ). Some of this time is filled up in the comic series, which explain some things about why Book isn't on the ship in the movie, the Hands of Blue, and a few other surprises. You should check them out!

No power in the 'verse can stop me!
