PIZMOBEACH

... fully loaded, safety off...

SPOILERS

Not trying to nitpick, just want to understand - I figure I’m just missing something basic.

1. When the crew stops to meet Fanti and Mingo it seems as if Kaylee is saying goodbye to Simon and Simon and River also seem to be saying goodbye to Serenity. Kaylee makes her “don’t talk to strangers" speech, and Simon asks River if she wants to stay and River says it isn’t safe for “them (the crew)” to stay... and then River walks into the bar - why? Just a Reader’s premonition?

2. While in the bar River sees the fruity oat bar commercial and the underlying Alliance code that sparks her attack. That subliminal command code I gathered was planted by the Alliance to cause her to create a ruckus so she would be discovered by them. So why did part of that code contain information about Miranda, which held the secret the Alliance was so afraid of having revealed?

MOHRSTOUTBEARD

1. I take it that River probably just felt drawn to her family.
2. It didn't contain anything about Miranda. But it triggered her conditioning, and the information she knew about Miranda (without knowing it) was tied up with all the other Academy programming rigamarole. It was part of the information she had buried inside her. Simon says something to this effect: "I think somehow when they triggered you it brought this up, this memory."

Hope this explains things.

KNIBBLET

1. Most likely, River and Simon showed up there because they asked around about where they might find a ship ... the kind of ship that keeps a low profile. They were sent to that bar because it's the sort of place that is patronized by shady characters. The sort of characters who might transport some folk for cash and not ask a lot of pesky questions.

2. The code contained nothing about Miranda. The code tripped River's conditioning. All that happened was her brain started releasing some other info that was smothered in the gray folds. Sort of like how the smell of cinnamon cookies doesn't have your grandma in it ... but cinnamon cookies will remind you of your grandmother's kitchen.

ALAND

1. Why what? You mean why did River wander into the bar? It's the bar at the space docks. Simon is going about the docks looking for a new ship to book passage on. He probably told River to wait in the bar, especially if he was concerned that her crazy River talk might be a problem while he's trying to negotiate a price.

2. The subliminal trigger in the ad didn't have anything to do with Miranda, but it did, by chance, happen to cause some of the memory River had burried deep in her mind to surface. It was an unintended side effect of the triggering, and ironically ended up being the Alliance's undoing.
