THis really is a great album. I'm glad to see that someone else thinks so too. It's one of the most beautiful albums I've ever heard. I listen to some really hard music most of the time, but whenever I listen to this album, it makes me feel all warm inside.

I couldn't help but notice a lot of Pink Floyd fans. Very cool. The Floyd is great. The thing that I noticed alot of you listed "Dark Side" or "Wish You Were Here" as your fave albums. I guess because I've heard them so much over the years, those are probably my lesser-faves (except "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" which I never could get tired of). My favorite albums by the Floyd would have to be "Piper at the Gates of Dawn" and "Meddle".

An album (non-PF) that I think alot of Browncoats would get into is "Dust to Dust" by Steve Roach - its a sort of electro/ambient mind trip through the old west. Totally reminds me of Firefly

There's some mp3 samples. Check it out!

WHISPER

top ten fave bands...hmmm... well at the moment I'm going with:

1)KANE- (Angel fans would recognise the lead singer- It's Christian Kane's (AKA Lindsey) country rock band and the album is actually very good.)

2)Nickelback

3)Evanescence

4)Bowling For Soup

5)Bryan Adams

6)The Young Dubliners

7)12 Stones

8)Aimee Mann

9)3 Doors Down

10)The Naughty Nymphs (my favorite comedy group)

These are my current favorites not the ten best ever. I haven't listened to enough other music to honestly make a list like that.

CAPTAINSHINY

Modest Mouse: Lonesome Crowded West, The Moon and Antarctica.

but I HATE Float On! I like the rest of Good News but Float On just sucks, and it totally gives everyone the wrong impression of the greatest band ever. sometimes I wish Isaac hadn't come clean, if you know what i mean.

Modest Mouse is a pretty good band. They have a really good sound even though the lead singer doesn't have the best voice in the world. I'm guessing that their one of your favs? In my opinion, and this is just mine, but i don't think there anywhere close to being the best band in the world. However they are way better than a loads of other bands out there. Good to see somes fans of them on here. And it's also good to see that there are fans of NIN on here too.

Which cd did you listen to? Transfer Trachea... or Within Dividia? Within Dividia is clearer and the mic on the double bass is turned way up, but it's great, some of the fastest feet i've ever heard. Transfer Trachea is really good, but the drummer isn't as pronouced on that album. The Lead singer is also different on the first cd from the second. The lead singer, Tyler Semrick-Palmateer from the first The End album, went to a Canadian band called "Mare" and they are fantastic. "The End" got a new lead singer on the second album, which isn't as good but still fits the band just fine.

Yeah, Mastadon rocks major ass! I love then alot. They have such a great sound and they have mastered their instruments. You really feel like your out on a grand adventure in the middle of the ocean when your listening to them. If your like Mastadon, check out a band called "Keelhaul" they also have a great great sound, and are very proficient with their instruments. They also deserve to do well. Not quite as good as Masadon, but very close to it. Love 'em very much as well!

Interesting thread...

My Top 10, In NO particular order:

1. Jeff Buckley - Grace
2. Fiona Apple - Tidal
3. Nine Inch Nails - And All That Could Have Been tied with Pretty Hate Machine (I worship you Trent, screw it, all albums by NIN)
4. Depeche Mode - ALL ALBUMS!!
5. Tori Amos - Under the Pink (at one time I wanted Tori to marry Trent and have musical genius children)
6. The Cure - Staring At the Sea
7. Robbie Williams (all albums, cos he's an asshole)
8. Silverchair - Diorama
9. Kelly Clarkson (so embarassed to admit this one) - Breakaway
10. INXS - Greatest HIts 2 Disc Set

I usually like darker music (I like Vast and Mesh and The Faint) but the above 10 albums have carried me through everything. I can't live without them.

Yeah, I understand on the backwater hometown thing. The place I live doesn't even have a record store. I imported the still ep from somewhere in London.

Transfer Trachea Reverberations from Point: False Omniscient ...which just may take the title for fewest minutes of music per letter in the album name, which I had before thought to be The Chariot's Everything Is Alive, Everything Is Breathing Nothing Is Dead and Nothing Is Bleeding. Transfer Trachea is good and leaves me wanting to hear Within Dividia. I've heard of Keelhaul and Mare, I'll have to check them out.

FINN MAC CUMHAL

1. Frank Sinatra -- pretty much any album. “Very Best of Frank Sinatra,” 1960 is a good all round one. A lot of good songs, including classics like “Fly me to the Moon,” “All the Way,” “Come Fly with Me,” and “My Way.” The Album “Only the Lonely” is considered his greatest single album.

2. Billy Joel – Again pretty much any album. The “Essential Billy Joel” is a recent compilation of most of his well known classics, but it leaves out a lot of really great songs like “Rosalindas’ Eyes” or “Christy Lee.” “52nd Street” is often considered the premier Billy Joel album.

3. Norah Jones – “Come Away with Me.” Rarely would I consider such a new album and such a novice singer among my all time favorites, but this album by Norah Jones is absolutely spectacular. I fell in love with this song and this album almost instantly and so it was no surprise to me when she walked away with eight Grammies that year, but it certainly opened up many other peoples’ eyes, I think.

4. Aerosmith – “Toys in the Attic,” (1975), though newer fans would probably prefer their more recent albums, such as “Pump” and “Get a Grip” (late 80s.) I really like them all, but I think their older stuff is marginally better.

5. Johnny Cash – pretty much anything, again a good compilation is “The Essential Johnny Cash”

6. Garbage – “Version 2.0” is the second album and their best, but their first album “Garbage” was also really good. They seem to have fallen off the face of the earth, which is a fate I predicted as soon as Manson did the theme song for one of the Bond films. Not that it was a bad film or a bad song, but when someone does a Bond song, they are rarely heard from again with any real success.

When you start to get near the bottom of the list there are so many good albums to choose from that the separation becomes too small to resolve without a lot of thinking, so I’m stopping here.
