I regret to inform that Israel joins the list of those countries which won't show Serenity on the big screen, according to http://www.fisheye.co.il/story_2978 (hebrew link).

Supposedly the order came from Universal.

Because of poor box office sales in the US and and order which supposedly came from Universal to drop the movie from the big screen (was supposed to premiere on Nov 17th).

Luckly, I already managed to watch it on a special pre-premiere at the Icon scifi festival here, in Israel.

Less than 400 FF fans had the privilege (filled the theater). Pity.

And I wanted to watch it again at a better theater (the one at Icon, wasn't the best, to say the least).

This is very curious as I remember back in
the late 70's Israeli movie theatres were
ahead of Europe and with Canada in getting
American films straight up front.

But Universal knows films often do well outside
of the USA regardless.

I just wanted to say that I've gotten packets of letters and artwork and collages and just huge, lovely feedback from the Israeli fans and so this news gives me a sadness. If any of you guys are reading this, I just wanna say, uh... find a friend with a big TV. And sorry. I'm not the boss of this. -joss.

Deja Vu anyone? it's happening again! Firefly was caned before a majority of people got into it, NOW Serenity is getting dumped before fans in other countries besides the U.S. and parts of the U.K. ever get to see the finished product!

I agree. Its very sad to see the same crap happen twice to such a great show. All this cancelling pretty much destroys all of my hope for a sequel.

I bet a majority of foreign countries have seen it through online pirating.
However this makes no money for Joss and Friends :(

It's just absurd. C'mon already... we can't have Jews running around the surface of this doomed blue-green hunk of rock watching films that promote freedom and self-reliance.

Stop it you silly bunch of Jews. Stop it!

It's just... silly. Silly Jews.

Thank the powers-that-be Serenity won't show it's ugly face in Israel. No, we can't have none of that.

(btw I'm taking this at face value, SOOOOooo, if IN FACT Serenity isn't being shown in Israel ~having a hard time believing it~ I retract this bit of facetious whateveritis)..

I just have a really hard time believing Serenity is not showing in Israel. If in fact it's true, well, there is always the "download" the "pirated shit" option (which I would never ever condone and strongly condemn). I won't dare mention atrocious bits of blasphemy like bearshare.com and bittorrent.com... wild horses being ridden by nekkid supermodels who want my body (which occurs almost on a nearly daily basis) couldn't make me post web sites like those. Newp, not gonna happen.

No such thing as gravity. Just as fictional as... (?) ...what is that thing europeople said never happened?

I think you're right. I can't believe this is happening but it seems they aren't showing Serenity in Israel. I asked someone who would know and... Can't begin to tell you how insanely pissed this makes me.

If I had zillions of dollars to blow, I would buy everyone in Israel the gorram'd FF DVD and then rent out every cinema in the holy land many weekends over and have FREE open viewings for anyone who wanted to see it.

If only...

The following is a direct translation from the website text: "following its apparent failure in the US, and despite a very successful early screening in the Icon 2005 SciFi festival, 'Globus Grop' deliver bad news to Wheddon fans: the commercial distribution of "Serenity" in cinemas in Israel has been cancelled. Instead, however, Globus promise to hurry with a fast distribution of the movie DVD coming soon"....

needless to say, we are all pissed off here.... >:-(

The order, is officially from Universal, and knowing the local distributers here they would not have gone to the effort of translating the movie as was in the case of the early paying screening (which was a smashing success) unless they were expecting full commercial distribution here in Israel...

looks like there will be some additional special screenings in the upcoming future during the numerous cinema festivals we have here (and/or fan conventions, though Icon is the biggest annually)... but it still isn't the same... :(

One must wonder though: how does a movie like serenity get the boot, and yet lameass frikkin' "mindhunters" (budget: 27M, domestic gross: 4.5M [!]) gets worldwide distribution?!

I think the survival of the show depends on it being shown in Israel.

Little patch of land full of people under siege. Smells like rebel fever. Betcha FF and Serenity (if the story line is told in order) would resonate there.

Just a theory.

No such thing as Israel. The "Israel-that-was" is being debated with guns, pens, and politicians."
