Why cant you guys sell the Firefly rights to Sci-Fi Channel?

Why didnt you give Firefly a fair chance? Such as air it the same time and in order?

Can Sci-fi make a Serenity TV show without Fox's rights?

If the DVD sales of Firefly have been so good, why not start a new FireFly series?

Why keep the Simpons going for so long, give it a rest? Let Firefly soar and have a chance.

These are some of the types of questions that fans such as myself are asking on all the message boards?

http://browncoats.serenitymovie.com/serenity/

http://www.fireflyfans.net

Please give us (fans of your cancelled show, that has the best selling DVD) an answer.

Thank You.

here is what i posted on fox forum!!

"Fox sucks!!! George Lucas I belive canceled the show, it was a Fox show that would show up his crappy Star Wars 1-3, plotless and empty characters. So I think he told them not to give Firefly a chance. Why else where they shown out of order and at floating show times. of course it was going to get poor ratings, any show would if you sell it like that. But we can see/hear Simpsons untill we throw up. What other reason has Fox given for canceling the best damn show. Firefly DVD is one of the best selling DVDs Fox has ever had and will ever have if the Browncoats have anything to say about it.

Here is a good question, if Firefly sucks so bad then how come they would let it go to Sci-Fi?? Cause Lucas wants it that way, hide it and they will forget it.

don't be surprised if they don't answer you.
they've moved on.
"Firefly" is now a DVD set that they are making some coin from to pay for the $12 million pilot that they chose to air LAST.
"misbehave" all you want.
posting to the fox bulletin boards will get ya nowhere. well, it'll get you a rep as being a jerk. but that's about it.

Just wanted to say, I've now sent my own little bundle of accusatory joy. I plan to send one everyday.

It's frustrating, we all know that, but have any of you heard of Free Fiona? It was a group that campaigned to have Fiona Apple's latest album released after it had been shelved for 2 years. The album is now available in stores, and Fiona herself said something along the lines of:

These things work.

Anyone think about organizing an ORGANIZED campaign to have Firefly resuscitated?

I got in to the show because of the movie. I went to go see the movie on a Sunday got the box set on the next Wednesday and was a fanatic Wednesday night. By Friday I had gotten to the end of Hart of Gold and I got a little choked up because I only had 1 episode to go; and I remember (and still do) asking myself what where the executives snorting when they decided to cancel this, and I thought this can't die; it can't. I had really kinda fell out if sci-fi with the crapiyness of enterprise and episode I II III of star wars. And when I went to go see serenity I was hoping for the best but prepared for the worst; and I was blown away. And its depressing that this one that gets canceled! Well that's Fox for ya.

Oh yeah, that's the way to convince them that Firefly fans are mature adults who know how to create a logical argument. Impecibly well reasoned and logical. Bravo.

For the record, I agree with you, at least insofar as Fox has treated Firefly in the past, but we're not going to get an expanded box set/series of TV movies/6-hour miniseries/weekly TV series revival/or anything else by insulting the people in charge at Fox today, who are not necessarily the same people who mistreated Firefly during its run 3 1/2 years ago!

Do you think the old-line Trekkies would have gotten an extra season, let alone an eventual movie revival, if their original letter writing campaign had consisted of sentiments like "NBC sucks!"? (And no, I'm not asking you to like Trek if you don't, but for cripe's sake learn from history! When you're trying to convince big money to do something, politeness counts!)

Honestly, has the instant gratification made possible by modern communications eliminated all trace of civil behavior? Reading this thread I kept hearing a soundtrack of Beavis and Butt-Head giggling in the background.

Now that sucks!

I think we should be more polite. Insulting them isn't going to do a thing except make us come off as immature children who aren't getting what they want.

Maybe we should write to SciFi instead, and ask them to pick it up? Can they do that? Or a spin-off or something.. I'm sure they could do something if the money was right.

Okay...just posted this on the official message board for every show that has one except 4:

Hey all,

Awhile back FOX gave one of the best shows ever made NO LEGS to stand on and then cancelled it after 4 episodes. The show is called Firefly and Universal just did a film based on it called Serenity. From what I understand, the network will not release the rights to the show (Joss Whedon was able to escape with the film rights) so that Sci Fi or another network could keep the show alive for die hard fans like myself.

Imagine if you only had one season of (name o show) to watch! Well that's what Fox has done to us.

If you're a sci-fi fan at all I recommend the show and the film. Even if you're not a sci-fi fan this show has a way of capturing folks. Once suitably hooked, visit www.fireflyfans.net to hang out with fellow flans (not a spelling error :))

Thanks for listening...and don't forget to ask Fox...WHERE'S MY FIREFLY?

Is there an echo in here?

It's amazing. I've been loud and most vocal among browncoats in the general disgust with FOX about the cancellation of the show. I've tried to articulate my views in a series of snooty and saracastic posts to that effect.

I see all I've been saying being echoed by Tholo, 20thcentfoxhater, etcetera, etcetera. A whole bunch of new names I've never seen post here. Always when they echo my arguments, there is an element of mockery in it. We agree with you, and furthermore we're going to add absurd bits of discrediting crap to your line of reasoning. I keep seeing these newly appeared names floating around some of my facetious posts. They always "agree" right before dropping some absurd logic bomb into the mix.

I think you GUYS (and I use the plural form of that word with contemptible sarcasm) are plants. What better way to undermine sound arguments then to inject a so-called sympathetic voice who agrees with the dissenter while using subtle subterfuge to make those arguments seem silly.

I'm cursed with a photographimagical memory.

Of course, if you continue to bury the forum with a never-ending stream of irrelevant posts (as you do), nobody will follow any particular thread.

Hmm.. [conspiracy theory /on] ...I smell calculation.

Wow. They could win this war for reasons other than "superior numbers", at this rate--like, for instance, infighting. Whatever may be the productive and counterproductive ways to approach Fox (or not to), sniping at each other is sure to end our stand. Come on, guys! Let's ease up on the name-calling! We all want the same thing, we all have the same feelings, and our different assessments of how to go about it are all differently legitimate. You can find books as far back as Aristole's "On Rhetoric" that try to thrash out the best way to persuade others; it's not like we've invented these approaches, or the dilemmas that gave rise to them. I'm sure Aristotle's ghost is still arguing with Cicero's, and Booker T. Washington's is still arguing with W.E.B. DuBois ("separate but equal", or "all equal together"?).

These eruptions of rudeness and slagging have been getting more frequent lately: it makes me sad, and it makes me scared to use this site, and, more to the point, it makes me lose hope about us pulling together and getting the show back on the air. Those of you who absolutely need to criticize other people's tactics or ideas, can't you do it privately--like, in your shower or something?

Maybe it's time, or past time, that we coordinated another push to Fox, in some guise--perhaps disregarding those among the earlier "Save Firefly" set who perhaps have become defeatist. But so far we haven't done that, so if individuals feel strongly enough to take action as they see fit, why slag them?

Meanwhile, if you want your "misery loves company" hit for the week, go over to the Entertainment Weekly site, and look at the postings up there about Fox cancelling "Arrested Development". Lots of rude ones, lots of polite ones, lots of ones in between, but they are united in their huge disappointment about their show being cancelled.

If Mal didn't leave Jayne behind, surely the name-callers on this site can forgive what they consider to be trespasses or mis-steps by other fans.

It's admirable that so many fans would participate in a spamming event that might actually get Fox's attention although I have a suspicion that Fox NEVER listens to the public. Their attitude is that "If I want your opinion I'll give it to you!" and so they just ignore any unsubscribed emails or postings on their message boards. I recently emailed Fox but it was about Bill O'Reilly and his statements on his show that it would be fine if Al-Qaeda attacked San Francisco as long as they left the rest of the U.S.A. alone. O'Reilly's warped opinion is that if San Francisco bans military recruiters from coming into high schools there then they are "un-American" and we should encourage Al-Qaeda to "take them out". While O'Reilly is an ugly old turd he doesn't look at all like Senator Joseph McCarthy but he sure sounds as stupid and fanatical. I'll always love Firefly but my TV will NEVER EVER be set to ANY Fox channel. I intend to boycott FOX until they air two apoligies. One for cancelling Firefly and admitting that their executives that made the decision were morons and have had their employment terminated and the second one for the inexcusable comments Mr "ASSBAG" O'Reilly said about San Francisco and his subsequent termination and cancellation of his worthless show. What amazes me the most is that these people have the chutzpah to call their crap on FoxNews journalism.

Can SciFi do that? I'm a little befuddled on who has the rights to what here.

I really want to do something about the abomination that is being Fireflyless. I just have no idea anymore who to direct my inquiries to.

I think the biggest problem right now with organizing ourselves into a united front is the basic lack of information.

What's possible? Who do we contact/what can we do to increase the possibilities?

Let's stop the insulting and start the brainstorming. We need to keep our voice united (idealists and pessimists alike).

Hikari there is no lack of information and no need to form up a front. The front is there by a force (or farce if you please) that will continue to exist no matter what.

This entire thread is full of people with disingenuous interest in anything firefly and serenity related. They say one thing yet mean something completely different. They want to argue the virtues of their politics (as if any of us give a shit).

They are talking about all manner of crap that has nothing to do with bringing back the show. Don't get suckered in (I did and wish I had'nt).

Politico types like these can make (and are makeing) multiple accounts and invent these point-counterpoint debates by assuming both sides of the argument. They can make these fictional voices and pollute the conversation at will. I would wish Haken could code the forums to protect against it but since the release of the film I'd imagine he's incapable of filtering out the dross. Information overload.

Time is on our side. Threads like this will eventually be a bygone memory, and those of us who truly care can refocus on what's really important... bringing back the show.

(Nice tinfoil hat, Xerogravity.)

I agree with those who say insulting FOX will not suddenly persuade them to feel kindly towards us. A corporation, if I may appropriate a quote, "is a body of individuals" who are not the same people. Spouting hate at someone who had nothing to do with matter is churlish.

I do think that FOX is a lost cause. Rather than sending (if I know internet fanbases, angry) emails to FOX, we should petition SciFi to purchase this gem of a show and make some serious money (and win some serious gratitude). They have shown an interest in the show, airing it as they have been doing. Let's convince them that they should go further and make more show/miniseries/what-have-you.

Who has the address for SciFi Channel feedback? No need to give up--FOX isn't all there is.

Anyhow, to those of you writing hatemail to FOX--chill! Instead of annoying FOX with your immaturity, how 'bout impressing SciFi Channel with the maturity, love, and dedication that have taken Firefly so far already?

They didn't want it then. Now they've seen it has a following strong enough to bring this poor cancelled show not only to DVD, but to the big screen! I don't suppose you've noticed the continual reruns of Firefly the SciFi Channel has been running? They've noticed it, alright.

Can Sci-fi make a Serenity TV show without Fox's rights?

A: No.. It's in the contract with Universal that thay cannot make a new TV show.

Universal can't make a new TV show--they don't have the rights! Where in the contract does it say another TV show can't be made? This is the first I've heard of any such idea. It sounds wrong--Universal can't control what FOX (or anyone else) does with what it owns.

Showing reruns of a show is one thing, Putting into production a show with a price tag of over 2 millon dollors an ep is another. And that's what it cost four years ago who know's now?
Price was the deal braker then and still is. Thay just don't have that kind of money.

Your not wrong, but I don't think Fox would say no to letting someone make a new show if thay would buy the rights. That's just more free money for them, there's just know one looking to buy. As for a contract that states no another TV show can be made? I have'ent seen one, but I would be shocked if Universal's contract dosen't state no show while we'er making movie's. It would be a huge conflict of interest.

Haha, I actually didn't think about that. In the Serenity RPG book there is a ship called 'Aces and Eights' which inspired my name.

Q: Why don't we just raise the defensive shields?
A: A superb suggestion with just two major drawbacks. One, we don't have any defensive shields. And two, we don't have any defensive shields. Technically speaking thats only one flaw, but it was such a big one I thought I mention it twice.
